OK, good enough. I'll unsubscribe until such time as there is something to talk about.

When Emotiva products are actually shipping that's when it becomes relevant IMO. Till that point any future product announcements or delivery estimates for said products are to be taken with a truck load of salt .

I bought Emotiva's first multichannel amp the LPA-1 back when their products were being sold by the now defunct and disgraced av123. Was a member of the Emotiva Lounge when it first started. Over the years I've had a few offline interactions with Emotiva's owner. Can't say those interactions were very positive. My personal feelings for the way Emotiva does business or their owner does not stop me from buying their products though. I'm glad that is as the XMC-1 is an excellent sounding prepro and very glad I bought it.

I am going to ask a question that some of you may laugh at, but there is surprisingly little info I can find in a google search on this subject.

I run a 6.1 speaker configuration out of my XMC-1 (because of my room shape) rather than 7.1. Can I use a 7 channel amp and just leave one channel unused?

I have been reading about this pre-order list for the V3 HDMI board but I don't remember about any V3 HDMI board pre-order list. I did place my order for the XMC-1 back on May 22nd 2017 and paid full price ($2499) and there was a note in the website saying that "the price includes the V3 HDMI board upgrade when available". My guess is that's the pre-order everybody is referring too?

I'm not referring to "Pre-Order" in the traditional sense, but Emo's particular "Pre-Order" included those who paid full price like Mark said, and those that were asked to be put on the list with email confirmation. In my case, I'm in the lists of the latter. To my knowledge, other than those who paid full price for their XMC and were promised the v3 board, no one had to pay up front for their "Pre-Orders," it was just a list.

Thanks,

Judd

I placed my "pre-order" to get in line for the V3 upgrade to my early XMC-1 on 12-18-17. I may well wait for a few weeks for the "prepaid" orders to clear before I get my invite. At least the upgrade is real and ready!

BTW: lots of people complain about the Emotiva experience. Me, I brag. I have bought two processors and three amps from them. I did have a problem with my first XMC-1; they replaced it in less than a week. No complaints, just great audio,

A common dynamic on enthusiast forums is for those who have no problems to be busy enjoying their gear leaving those with problems/complaints as the majority of posters.

I took delivery of my XMC-1 in late March of last year and paid for the V3 board.

No email yet.

No complaints about the XMC-1 itself, but the delay with the V3 board is a different story.

Any way you look at it, it is poor planning and/or lack of transparency.

I seriously considered the XMC-1 but honestly I cannot ignore their history or the current state. It would be much better for them to simply keep a little quieter, set reasonable expectations then exceed them.

I went with a NAD M15HD for my den and will be receiving a new HDMI MDC in a few days. It will be interesting to see who delivers Atmos first. NAD or Emotiva?

Honestly, if Emotiva delivers the XMR-1 before the NAD AM17 I would likely switch over. I am enjoying the NAD in the meanwhile (I'm using a miniDSP nanoAVR DL for Dirac until the AM17 is released/supported).

No V3 HDMI Board, nor ATMOS/DTS-X Board either but we got a New Toaster

https://emotiva.com/products/xbt-1

I was tented to press the Pre-Order button but then I thought that if the V3 HDMI Board has been delayed for 18 months, must be due the fact that things move kinda slow in Emotiva. So if the XBT-1 was designed with the same philosophy then this thing may takes 6 hours to toast a slice of bread

Got the email today for the V3 HDMI Board upgrade. I can either send it back to Emotiva in 10 days (they will send me an UPS label) and turnaround time is 5 - 7 days or get the self install kit when become available by May 1st. They do recommend sending the XMC-1 back to Franklin to ensure it works properly after the upgrade. They will pay for both ways shipping. I was pretty confident on going with the self install kit option but now I have second thoughts. Changing the board is not a big deal for me. I use to build my own computers. Just upgraded the HDD to SSD in my daughters 2011 27" iMac so I have the tolls and skills. My concern if the "after" the upgrade issues that could rise. What you guys are planning to do? I'm still more inclined to do the self install option, though.

ALERT!!!

Pardon the drama all but I had an issue with my XMC-1 the other day and thought I would post my experience.

When I first received my XMC-1 one of the first discs I played was an SACD and found out quickly the XMC-1 had a loud pop when switching from PCM to DSD. I had the XMC-1 cranked up and thought I could have blown my speakers. Contacted Emotiva right away and they told me it'd be best to use PCM as there really wasn't that much of a difference . That was from one of Emotiva's lead "techs" and I asked "so why did Emotiva make such a big deal about DSD in the XMC-1 manual?". He really didn't have a response for that. Well anyway it took awhile but they finally did a FW update to eliminate the pop.

Well fast forward a few years and I experienced the DSD pop the other day. I was listening to LAGQ's Guitar Heroes SACD and with it being a DSD recording wanted to see how it sounded in multichannel in DSD Direct. I switched from PCM to DSD with my Oppo 105D and got the dreaded DSD pop ! I didn't have the volume up real loud but the pop kind of startled me. I immediately turned down the volume and for each volume change increment there was a pop. I hit mute and got the pop. Hit pause then stop and got a pop with each command. I shut off the XMC-1 from the front power button and the powered it back up. After doing that I could play the Guitar Heroes SACD in DSD without any pops. This was with HDMI not the 7.1 analog input.

My strong suggestion for anyone before changing from PCM to DSD on the fly is to lower the volume or better yet stop the disc before changing. I have changed from PCM to DSD and vice versa many times since the FW change and this is the first time I've had the popping issue with the new FW.

Owww, Bill. Reported it to Emo, I am sure. Please keep us posted!

On a slightly related issue, we have decided that that there is no way to stream DSD to the XMC-1 over HDMI, right? No way to make it think it's from an optical player, right?

That was my first thought. You also get to keep the original HDMI 1.4b board which we all know it works very well.
