Dirac Full just brings it to yet another level.

My Japanese AVR had every bell & whistle you could hope for, but I haven't missed a single thing.
Wilbur - I've been reading your very positive comments and am glad you and your wife are enjoying the XMC-1 so much. Without an room correction in play the improvement IMO should be difficult to hear, but I am also not of the crowd that everything sounds the same so I respect your opinion and those of other owners - especially since I can't speak from experience. I will say that my move from a 4311 to a 5200 resulted in things sounding better for me, but I realize some of that could have been expectation bias even though Audyssey XT32 seems to perform better on the new units based on measurements, but without company confirmation who really knows.

The bells and whistles that are important to me is the ability to have more than 7 speakers in play at once for my HT, Atmos and hopefully DTS:X via upgrade - find out about the later next week hopefully. Auro, not so important. What Atmos content is out there demonstrates how object based sound is a game changer IMO. DSU is also huge for movies, but not for music. Now if I could just get those things and Dirac on more than 8 channels (and not spend thousands) I would have my perfect pre (or receiver). This is the reason I look forward to the next gen Emo unit. Brian gets enjoy the best of both worlds. Unfortunately I just couldn't justify the additional expense of an XMC-1 and more amps, not financially just from a practical point of view. Until then I will continue to follow the thread, great to read so many positive comments after all the anticipation - to put it nicely.

I bought an XMC-1 for myself and bought another one for a friend of mine. I was able to get 25% off on both purchases using the UFL.

Bill
I hear ya Bill I waited as long as I could three years ago for the XMC-1 but ended up with the 8801 to replace and aging Anthem avm20v2. I also at that time replaced an Oppo 95 with a 105 just in case the 2/ch performance of the 8801 wasn't up to snuff as I'm a 2/ch nut at heart. My suspicions where correct after trying 3 connected methods to my Halo A21 with the Oppo direct surpassing the other two in performance across the board, but ended up using the balanced inputs to the 8801 in pure direct due to convince as it didn't give up to much. What I can thus far after having the 8802 in my setup seeing as it was purchased for the sonic upgrade with all else being for the future is this I sold my Oppo 105 as get this! the 8802 via hdmi bested it in my setup using HDMI for 2/ch and this includes direct to the amp Never though I'd here a dac I liked better than the ESS Sabre but what Marantz has done with that AKM and jitter is nothing short of incredible and make no mistake its not even similar to the 8801

Would love for someone, or individuals t do a shoot off with the above SSP's with and without RC. & Stereo/Mult Ch..

Djoel we are living in good times and I wish Emotiva all the success it deserves ,as we all know now what it takes to bring a great pre/pro to market and I commend all brands that take up the challenge. I would love to hear one one day in my setup as I kept a close eye on this thread and can read between the lines and all I gather is "this is great sounding unit".

Big congrats to all you guys for waiting it out as its paid off for sure

audiofan,

Thanks for your detailed thoughts . I was running my 105D direct to a pair of Wyred 4 Sound SX-500s and really liked the SQ. With the XMC-1 I find the SQ to be equal if not a bit better than direct to the amps. That is using balanced with the Reference Stereo mode. Maybe when the 8803 comes out I can grab an 8802 at close out pricing to demo it .

The upgrade I did before the XMC-1 was a noticeable improvement. Even my wife said she could hear things she hadn't before. It wasn't earth shaking, but it was there. Getting the XMC-1 was a totally different experience. I now get it when someone says "It was like a veil was lifted". It's like night and day. Then you dial in Dirac and A/B it with the already impressive XMC-1 by itself and you just went up another big step. Maybe folks that have or have tried really high end gear might not see it the same way, but I didn't know music could sound this good.

Same thing for me. I noticed it as soon as the system booted up. I am very happy leaving the video processing to Oppo and Samsung as it's what they do best.

Yep, same here as well. Video just looks better going through the XMC. The picture just seems sharper and the colors look slightly more vibrant. So that tells me my previous SSP was still doing something to the image even though I had it set to pass-through.

Thank you to everyone on the forum who helped out with info on the XMC-1.

Since your looking at the NAD M27, check out D-Sonic and Wyred4Sound.

I'm enjoying the Wyred 4 Sound amps very much. The XMC-1 and the Wyred 4 Sound amps make a fine team IMO . The quietest my system has ever been. I can put my ear right up to each speaker and they are all dead silent. If you look for used there are great deals out there. I paid under $2k for the SX-500s, ST-500 and ST-250.

I'd like to suggest Crown XLS1500's for you. With those JTR's of yours you wouldn't need more power.

I have Crown XLS2000's with my XMC-1 and Paradigm Reference Series speakers - just fantastic. Very quiet, neutral, and dynamic.

Excellent... I just pulled the trigger on an XMC last night and have a similar front setup to yours, so I can't wait!

I haven't really messed with my of my EQ/config in the past 2 years, but I'm hoping the DIRAC lets me tune my subs more effectively. Between the Integra's Audyssey + the Pro kit + a Behringer DCX2496, I've never been totally happy with the amount of "punch" the JLs provide, although they DO blend rather well with the Maggies. *shrug* we'll see!

I wonder if an order at $1999 will go through and if Emotiva will honor that price?

I haven't really dug deep into the XMC-1 menu but is there a crossover setting for each group of speakers? I have all my speakers set to small, is that a global setting of 80 Hz?

The price is the price until it is updated. I think they would have to honor it.

I haven't looked in months, but I thought each speaker could be set individually. I could very well be wrong.

In over my head.

I just looked up the online manual (I'm in work) and the crossovers can be changed. When I tried this in the menu of the XMC-1 it did not show the option to change the crossovers. Obviously I wasn't doing something correct. I have a friend that just tried it and it does work.

Yep - Settings - Speaker - Dirac (or Preset 1/2) and keep going right. You'll see the crossover there.

My short and concise review of my XMC-1 after my second (all day long) listen, no Dirac, no Eq, only distance's set, crossovers set, and level matched and everything in the room optimized for 2.1 music listening: .................................................. ........
.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .... I have no words to describe what I heard, I am speechless.

It sounded that good!!
