Thanks for the tip...I'll get him to switch it, sounds like that will take care of it.

Hey guys,

New owner of an SC-82 here. I'm feeling a little deflated today.
I ordered my receiver from Accessories4Less and received it and first off I can't get it to recognize the microphone to run the MCACC.
After trying over and over to get it to recognize it I decided to try and manually set it up to get something going for the weekend.
After messing with it for now two hours I can't get ANY sound to come out of it.
Could I possibly be missing something? Is there some secret button I don't know about?
I updated to the latest firmware in a hope that it would help and nothing.

I know Pioneer is closed for the weekend so I figured I'd see if any of you had any tidbits of information.

thanks guys!

I updated my Pioneer SC-81 a few months back so that Pandora was accessible. At some point last night it's quit working and I can't figure out why. I tried to check for updates on the receiver, there are none. I went into the AVnavigator settings online and it's set up there for Pandora. However when I try to use the Icontrol app to access Pandora nothing comes up. The screen stays blank. Anyone know what's going on?

Hello! Did you apply the update from Oct 2016 (which includes a fix for Pandora)?

Hello! I did update the receiver a few months back. I checked again for any updates, it says there are none. It just suddenly quit working, with a blank screen when I pull up Pandora. I'm not sure if this is a Pandora issue or Pioneer?

Sorry I don't know anything about the app. If your receiver connects to Pandora without using the app(I.e. Using the 'net' button on the remote) I'd say the problem is with the app.
Hope this helps.

I researched and tried the app. I did not have an issue with Pandora. It worked fine.

I just unplugged the AVR for the night and it worked fine the next day.

I have a new issue.lol I just purchased a Rythmik LVX12, I had a set up and sounding pretty good. Although I don't believe it was producing up to it's potential. I have to turn the sub way up, plus add a lot of gain from the AVR. It appears for some reason my whole system is kind of out of whack.

Do other Pioneer SC81 users have issues with Pandora? It works more times than not, but will sometimes not work. Everything is updated. I may try an hour later and it will suddenly work. Someone mentioned it may be my internet, which is slow, however, I can stream Netflix, Amazon, and Internet Radio without any issues. Just Pandora.

SC81 Turns OFF Right After Loud Scenes

Greetings:

I opened this thread long time ago and now I need help from it!

Lately Im having issues with my SC81; I love to set vol between -10db -7db when
seeing bd movies. (quite loud; but not to bleed your ears). Sub is at -3db.

Everytime there is a scene with explosions; or a very high impact action scene; my receiver turns OFF. Thats something that never happened in the past. I have this receiver for about 2 years and now its starting doing this thing!...

I will test today again some scenes with the sub disconnected to see if the issue comes from the PreOut of subs. I verified all cabling and there is nothing that can create any short at all.

Any ideas?

For whatever reason, my SC-81 is now giving me some trouble with MCACC. I still can't access the menu on my tv screen, but now I can't change any speaker configuration. Somehow the AVR changed the front speakers from large to small. When I try to change it back, it's not letting me. I tried turning everything off for about a minute, then plugging it back in, but still nothing. I'm getting really frustrated with Pioneer.

I currently am using an Elite VSX 60. I am not using an external amp so im not making use of its Pre-Out function except for sub-woofers. I use two Klipsch 12in subs in a 7.2 speaker configuration.
I am looking for a bit more on the output end especially for Direct 2 channel listening yet think it might be nice also for 7.2 movies etc...
I would also like to upgrade to support for 4K since later this year i may pick up a decent 4k LED or OLED HDTV
I have a chance to pick up an Elite SC 81 for $400, considering its age is that a good deal? Will it fit the bill for what i am looking for?

I miss Tribune

I have the 82.

Has anyone used the HDMI switch on this receiver? I cannot get it to work properly. I have to have HDMI 1 out ON in order to use HDMI 2. If I shut off projector connected to HDMI 1 I can't get signal to 2. It will only work if I have 1+2 enabled and screen 1 on. If I use 2 only, I will not get a signal at all. This defeats the purpose of an HDMI switch.

Need an SC-82 setup disk

Hey there, just bought an SC-82 display model and didn't get the included disk. I'll gladly pay for a copy if anyone can hook me up with one.

The Official Pioneer SC-81 / SC-82 Owners Thread

Hey, so after doing some research it seems HDCP 2.2 is a hardware upgrade. I haven't seen or heard anyone doing it to pioneer elite receivers, but it looks like denon receivers had an upgrade option available. You had to sent the receivers to authorized repair center to do it. Our receivers already have HDMI 2.0 4K/60FPS. So does anyone know if we could just solder on a new chip for HDCP 2.2

Anyone know how to change a mono signal to different speaker? Mono signals are coming thru left channel which is weird, would prefer center or left and right.

I got an SC-81 that I've been using for a couple years. Just now wanting to upgrade to a 4K HDR TV. Does this receiver support HDR? Will it pass through the full 4K HDR signal to the TV?
The specs only mention 36bit Deep Color, but not HDR. Not sure if that is the same thing.

From what I was told by the dealer that sold me this receiver, he recommended just plugging in my 4k devices direct to my TV and run an optical cable for the audio to the receiver. Not ideal.

Help-Pioneer SC-81 No Voices on dvd

I don't know what's going on with my Pioneer SC-81 but I switched out Blu-ray players and now there is no Voices coming through dvd's or Blurays. I even went out and bought a new bluray player today, but still same problem. When I play a movie there is no voices, just like background music. I have tried it on 3 different HDMI inputs. They all do the same thing. The PS4 and my cable both work like normal though. What did I do or what is wrong??? Please help.
Thanks,
Darrell

Having trouble finding any information on the HDMI version of the ports for my SC-81. I think I saw they were 2.0 originally. Does anyone know if there is a firmware upgrade to move them to 2.0a or if that is even an option?

Greetings! I believe you are correct--2.0. I doubt if Pioneer will upgrade due to the age of the receiver. The last FW update I applied was for Pandora.
Hope this helps!

Question Issues with SC-82 and SVS PB-2000

Hello,

I have the Pioneer Elite SC-82 and a recently purchased SVS PB-2000 sub. This sub is replacing the Polk SWS505. I am running a 2.1 system. WIth my old sub, besides some of the expected issues that come with a cheap sub, it performed fine overall. When I set up the new sub, I put the gain on the sub to about 11:00 and ran the MCAAC. This process set my front speakers to large, I changed them to small. It set the sub to -5.5, which seems about right. The sub distance was a few feet off, but it measured the fronts accurately.

This sub sounds great for movies played via a 4K blu-ray player. Problem is, if I play Netflix from the blu-ray player, or if I play music via bluetooth, the sub completely loses all it's oomph. My fronts are rated down to 49hz and I can barely hear the sub. I set the fronts to "small", and I set the crossover to 80, but is there something more specific I need to do?

I have read a few reviews about the PB-2000 where this seems to be a common complaint. I feel like I am missing a setting and that this should be easily fixed, this just can't be true that this sub is so bad for anything except a true LFE signal. In one forum I found (again, worked for movies but nothing else), a gentleman fixed this because his fronts were set to "full range" and he changed them to 60hz. How do I make sure my front's aren't set at "full range?" It seems that setting them at small with 80hz crossover would do the trick, but I really think i'm just missing something simple. It just can't be this bad lol... Thanks for any tips or ideas!

If the subwoofer performs well with a 4K Bluray feed, but doesn't perform well on a Netflix DD 5.1 feed from the same Blu-ray player, then it's a set-up issue.

Netflix is streamed in DD 5.1+, so your Pioneer should be seeing DD 5.1+ from the Blu-ray player - just like it does from a Blu-ray DVD. The subwoofer should not be losing most/all of its performance/output on Netflix unless that source is somehow being altered/down-mixed by the Blu-ray player.

Now Bluetooth music is a different story. That is typically just a 2-channel stereo signal, so the subwoofer will play the bass in the soundtrack below the crossover for the front channels (which you state is 80 Hz). Provided the subwoofer is level matched with the speakers by MCACC, it will play the bass from the soundtrack at roughly the same volume as the mids/highs from the speakers. So it should sound balanced and good - but not as strong as a 5.1 source (which has deliberately overcooked bass).

From a bass management standpoint in the Pioneer, Large means the speakers are getting a full-range signal. Small means they are being crossed over to the subwoofer at the selected crossover (80 Hz). If you set the fronts to Large and you still want the subwoofer to work, you need to turn-on double bass (typically called Plus in a Pioneer).

Hi Ed, thanks so much for the note. I also have been in contact with SVS customer service, which has been great. It was a setup issue as I had assumed I was doing something wrong, just couldn't figure out what. I changed a few things around, like using the HDMI audio out on my BDR player to go right into the receiver, tweaked the crossover (my mains are just too small I think), ran MCAAC again, did the sub crawl, and used some better sources for my "testing." I must say that now it's performing great, no issues at all... even my wife likes it because while you can definitely hear and feel the bass in a movie, it isn't "boomy" as she says. Thanks again for the reply, and now I can't wait to replace my main's with the Prime Towers
