What is the "trade in" option for the Flagship if the issue is present? (let me know if you would prefer to discuss via PM or telephone).

You can PM or call; however, as discussed in previous posts in this thread, Denon's acceptance of a Trade-in is done on a case-by-case basis (ie. not documented), so you would have to contact Denon directly for details as to whether your unit would be accepted or not.

I contacted them. They offered me a trade in opportunity, but it was not at all a ?deal? IMO. Let?s just say it clearly isn?t philanthropy.

You?re better off doing the legwork of selling your own unit yourself at used market price and doubly so trying to buy the new unit for less than $4k MSRP.

Is this correct - was the inclusion of width channels for DSU just a typo?

Apparently, DSU doesn't support wides, and supposedly Dolby has no plans to do so, so it was a mistake on Denon's part.
Now that the 8500h has been released, it has a support thread here where discussion has moved to:

Dammit, that's a blow to morale! I guess our last hope is DTS Neural:X supporting 13+ channels at some point then.

I believe that DTX is going to have 13 channel support, and it is estimated that the 8500h will have it next year. There are much more knowledgeable people on the thread I linked that I would recommend if you have any more 8500h questions.

Hi! Sorry for my bad english!

Well, I'm looking for a very long time for a replacement/upgrade for my Onkyo TX-NR5010 and the 2CH performance (music) is very important to me.
I really don't care about "hi-end explosions and bullets etc" but I care about a great bass, good textures on vocals, saxophones, very good soundstage, tonal balance (bla bla bla)... and this are my question:

Is the Denon X8500H a replacement/upgrade for my Onkyo TX-NR5010 in audio quality?
Onkyo uses Burr-Brown DAC, is this AKM4490 better? I'm very curious about this chipset

Thanks
Ivan

Since you asked your question in this thread (Denon), the likely responses you will receive will be in favor of Denon. The current Denon flagship is the X8500H (replaces the 7200) with 13 channels of amplification and it's feature set is primarily targeted to the HT enthusiast (explosions and bullets) and "wide" and "overhead" speakers. All the discussions and accolades around the 8500 are about features...there is almost no discussion about audio quality...sound signature, etc. Although the 8500 is currently the state of the art in terms of AVR HT capability, if you are truly primarily interested in only 2 CH music, I would recommend also considering/auditioning the currently available Marantz SR8012 which many feel is more oriented toward audio quality and music. Also, if you are an Onkyo fan and in no hurry to buy, Onkyo will be replacing its current TX-RZ3100 flagship with a new flagship late this year. Onkyo is now influenced by Pioneer (Class D amps) and still retains some of the audio qualities of the classic Onkyo's (10XX, 30XX, 50XX) but IMO it has been compromised to an extent. In any case, for your interest and application, I would recommend listening to both the 8012 and the new Onkyo flagship. Good luck with your decision.
