Which Anthem? If it's the AVM 60 or MRX720 or 1120, it will do Dolby Atmos. Or do you mean Dolby Vision? Firmware upgrade is in the works for current gen products, according to Anthem.
How would AVM60+Emotiva XPA5 amp compare with MRX720 preouts + Emotiva XPA5?

By all accounts it should be identical.

Thanks! CEC was off on the MRX. The Apple TV doesn't really mention it. My TV didn't either, but there was a setting that sounded like it. Turned it off. Have to see if it keeps happening. I wasn't able to immediately get it to happen again.

New AVM60 owner here.
So far very impressed with the audio quality, and as others have stated the 2ch performance is excellent. I traded "down" from the McIntosh MX-122 which is basically an 8802a with a fancy faceplate and price tag to match. It was an excellent pre-amp but the value of looking at the faceplate wore off..
Well, that, and my never ending desire to try new stuff.. the main reason for going to the 60 was that I could get it, the new Oppo 203, a Dune Duo 4k to replace my NAS, and a new phono pre-amp (PS Audio Nuwave) all for what I sold the Mac for...
I wanted to get the Minidsp DDRC-88BM too, but after running ARC I'm going to hold off on that and experiment a bit more because what I hear so far is surprisingly good.

The only negative so far is I'm finding PlayFi to be really awkward & buggy.. I'm not a computer savy guy so that doesn't help. Is there a PlayFi for dummies thread or guide somewhere?

I have a PS Audio DirectStream that I use for my DAC. I feed it with a Mac Mini via USB and Ethernet from my router to the Bridge II on the DirectStream DAC. Roon (which supports Tidal) is running on my Mac Mini reading from my NAS. It works extremely well. PS Audio is going to release new Bridge II firmware that will allow for MQA unfolding. I am looking forward to trying it out.

Anyway, how are you connecting your turntable to the Nuwave? Via USB?

PlayFi has been buggy for me as well. I have not tried any of the apps yet (Pandora, Spotify, etc) but have tried streaming from my NAS. My AVM is hardwired to my home network so no wireless issues to contend with. Starting music is pretty straightforward and I actually like the interface. My problem occurs after music has been playing awhile.... for whatever reason, the music just starts to skip and doesn't stop until I stop the music and restart. It's happened a few times already, and one time when it happened, it locked the AVM up to a point i had to unplug it to reset. It's great when it works though. I haven't reported it to Anthem yet but was planning on doing so. Has anybody else experienced this?

I'm not, it's in transit... on the back of a camel somewhere in Tunisia... should be here next week.
I'm working on reducing components so I'll be hooking my turntable up to the Nuwave via analog inputs and sending 24/96 to the AVM60 via coax and its USB output to my computer for vinyl ripping. That'll allow me to get rid of my Stanton T.92 that I bought just for that purpose.
I'm in the midst of a divorce settlement and she's got most of my vinyl collection so when I get them back I'll be a busy guy for a while.
Of course I'll try the Nuwave's analog output to the AVM but I plan on using ARC regardless of input, so either way it's going to go through an A/D conversion somewhere.

Ah, ok, I was confused by the NuWave DAC and didn't realize there was a NuWave phono converter also. Hence my confusion with how you would be connecting it.

For what it is worth, my new Pro-Ject Tube S phono preamp sounds excellent with the AVM 60 processing ARC through the analog input. The DirectStream does as well. I am pretty positive you will be happy with the results.

I am so happy with my AVM 60 that I just ordered a MRX 520 to go in the bedroom and replace the Yamaha RX-A2050.

Enjoy!

I run a Auralic Aries to a Vega DAC then to the avm60 the lighting app for the Aries is awesome and bug free I have a MacBook Pro with a free NFS share feeding it. You can get a Aries mini for about 500-600 but you will need a dac as well.

Thanks, I'm trying to end up with less components lol!
My Oppo does an excellent job of streaming my music if needed, but I was hoping to just push from my NAS via PlayFi direct to the Anthem and eliminate having to use another component for 2ch music.

Yup I've got the PS Audio GCPH right now and there's no loss of character converting analog & using ARC.
I found the same with Audyssey XT32 of the MX122 and Denon AVP I had prior. I think that today's A/D & D/A conversions are pretty much transparent and adding well executed RC's certainly helps more than it hinders.

I hear folks saying that the AVM60 can be had for less than the MSRP. Any suggestions on how I can pull it off in the SF Bay Area?

Also, orthogonal question. Given where it is now, how much future proof is AVM60? What are the biggest pieces in the horizon I will miss if I jump into the AVM60 now?

Thanks.

Playfi in my opinion is a bust...as far as the minidsp goes I tried it on the 8802a and personally found the arc implementation better for my room. If you are not tech savy then the minidsp is not for you as it is more of a tweakers product... just my 2 cents...

I've had a fair bit of room correction experience actually so it doesn't baffle me like streaming media does..
Oppo's iOS app works pretty good, but as I mentioned it would be nice to just use PlayFi & the Anthem.

Lately, I've had no issues with PlayFi from iPhone on either the AVM60 or PW800. I have had issues in the past in which the app would function, but only shortly, and then drop the connections, and take its sweet time to reconnect. But has been stable for a while now....

I just installed my new AVM60 during the weekend. Just the way it came (no ARC adjustments yet) it sounds fantastic, and it is a replacement for a Classe SSP-800, which it says something.

Congrats! No surprise there at all.

I have gone digital straight to my amps and compared to going through the AVM60. I couldn't reliably tell the difference. That was all I needed to know about the AVM60.

Nope! So far so good, the Oppo and the Anthem seem to play nicely together, at least for what I'm doing.
