Most Play-Fi products use a drop-in networking module made by Phorus, which is owned by DTS. So Anthem/Paradigm can only do so much on their end to resolve networking issues.

I suspect this is why they've been so problematic. Though, I've experienced no issues myself.

The Official Anthem AVM 60 thread

Okay, have got the AVM installed. PC and PS4 working great so far. My Oppo bdp-83, however, is sending video, but the AVM isn't getting audio. Seems weird. The input is set to receive audio from hdmi...

E: Oh! Also worth noting my AVM shipped with the .074 firmware, which is still not available on anthems site if I'm correct (looks like .067 is most current)

Can try that. Was really hoping hdmi had evolved beyond this point....

Honestly, this is making me wanna replace the bdp 83 with a 203 all that much faster

Sorry for the late response, for some reason i am no longer receiving ANY email notifications from AVS forum and cannot figure why. It was the Bee Gees one night only in DTS-HD, unfortunately i made no note of the tracks it was. Never happened on my old 8802A Marantz but i like the SQ of the AVM60 better.

Figured I'd cross post here as I'm not sure this is an LG C7 issue...

I just upgrade my processor and have enabled ARC and HDMI CEC in both devices. When I have the audio output set to "auto" in the sound menu instead of "PCM", I get very regular audio dropouts.

Audio typically works for 3-10 seconds and then drops out for 3-5 seconds and resumes and this process repeats...

I've tested using Netflix app, Amazon app, Dolby Access app and it's a problem across all of these.

Is this a common issue on the 2017 models or am I just unlucky?

It might also be worth noting that for the short times when the bitstream is working, my Anthem is showing the nitrate as 32kbps, which seems incredibly low...

Thanks for any insight anyone can offer!

Also worth noting I'm on the .074 firmware

Help with Surround setup

I know this is a novice question. We have a Crestron home distribution system and a theater with 7 speakers (L/C/R, side dipole, and rear in-ceiling) plus 4 bass speakers.

We had a Lexicon MC12HD processor that we really loved, but it quit syncing to all our inputs with the latest Dolby upgrades (we aren't sure how long ago). We lost our surround capability and there was nothing the installer could do to fix the MC12 (we paid enough trying!).

So he sold us an AVM60... which we were excited about from the reviews. It is hooked up, but ALL sources (DVD bluray, DirectTV, Roku with Netflix or VUDU) all connect at either "Dolby D 3/2" or "Dolby D+ 3/2".

Does that sound correct? I'm assuming this is set in the AVM60, and not just a function of the output devices?

You are seeing what is coming from the source. Press the Mode button on the Anthem remote to select from the available upmix options. That will upmix 5.1 sources to however many channels you have.

Having said that, most BluRays should provide TruHD or DTS Master. Some titles will have Atmos. Not sure if there are many DTS:X discs out there. If selected, that is what the Anthem will indicate.

You may need to make sure you are selecting the highest quality sound track from your media.

That said -- what mode should we select/expect from Vudu or Netflix (from Roku), and from DirectTV?

DirecTV will usually provide Dolby Digital 5.1, but occasionally 2.0.

I would expect at least that from Netflix or Vudu but I don't use either so I can't say with certainty.

Does the AVM 60 do automatic software updates, or do I have to download and install them?

FWIW, here's a data point.

I started out with an Oppo BDP-83 and it worked without any issues. Before installing the AVM 60, I upgraded all of my HDMI cables to BJC Series-FE based on seeing Anthem's guidance in the manual (p.10). Also, my HDMI cable lengths are short: 3' from the blu ray player to the AVM 60 and 8' from the AVM 60 to the TV.

^Say, are you running one or two HDMI cables from the BD to the AVM 60?

Ah, never mind. I see the 83 has only one HDMI output, so let me rephrase...

Are you running any outputs from the Oppo to the AVM 60 other than HDMI?

I'm not actually. In earnest, it's not the end of the world. I have a PS4 Pro that I can use in the mean time and I am simply waiting to visit a family member to pick up the BDP 83's carton and I'll actually be selling it on Amazon (they appear to hold their value extremely well) and swap for a 203.

All in all a short term problem. Also, third on my list, behind my Audio Return Channel issue a few posts up and a unique PC resolution issue.

I'll swap the cable once for kicks and see what happens.

Thanks Bill

Yes, same problem here as well when I got mine. I called Anthem support and they ran me through the process. There is an update to Play-fi firmware that doesn't seem to be documented publicly for the Anthem but is the same update procedure found on the Play-Fi website. Anthem will point you to it. There is no onscreen details as to what is going on during the update and you have to watch the blinking light in the back of the unit (can be seen from the front) to know where it's at in the process. That and re-doing the latest firmware with a soft reset. Crazy unfriendly process. Seemed to work but I have not done extensive testing. Just log a call and they will send you and email with what you need to do. I had to call back while I was following the process because the email doesn't mention anything about watching the blinking light in the back of the unit but the support person guided me over the phone. Painful...

Be careful with 3 foot cables. Believe it or not, they can cause issues. 6 feet should be your minimum cable length.

I swapped for another cable and the audio issue persists.

Good to know about cable length though. That's the first time I've heard that.

You download the firmware updates to a USB stick and pop that in the front port to perform an update.

Ordered an AVM60 to replace my Theta Digital CasaNova with the 20% trade in credit. I didn't have to turn in the CasaNova, but at this stage its really not worth anything.
Picked it up Friday and set everything up Saturday with some fine tuning today.
Took a couple of reboots to get the ARC microphone drivers to install. Realized I had my surrounds plugged into the back channels on the AVM which was picked up by ARC.
The software is pretty good. I had to decrease the levels on my subs.
Attached is the pre and post ARC speaker settings.

I've read it has something to do with the sync of the signal...I believe it was HD Fury that did the testing and they warned about 3 foot cables being problematic.

So... Anyone longing for some other processor now that the AVM 60 is a few years old? Anything it's missing that you wish it had, or tech that is coming out shortly?

Wouldn't mind independent handling of multiple sub-woofers, but it ain't the end of the world..... The other thing I would like to see is more than 4 speaker configs. I could actually use about 6 of them.

In a forum where 70% of the members change underwear less frequently than a/v gear, that's a dangerous question to ask...

......I bought my AVM 60 last week.

I'm fine with the occasional board swap, but i'm not sure what tech is on the horizon that would require an entirely new model.

I didn't think the AVM 60 was a modular design?

Maybe it isn't? Not certain.

It would definitely be a bummer though if they rolled out a new replacement for the AVM 60 and the only material change was HDMI 2.1. I'd rather pay a reasonable sum to replace that part than buy an entirely new unit.
