I have dual Hsu VTF-15H MK2 subs along my front wall. I use a miniDSP 2x4 HD and Genesis does a good job with subs but a miniDSP does take it to a whole other level. You can use REW and build your own custom house curve, boost etc... and tweak your bass exactly how you like at the frequencies you like or you can just import the custom BEQ setting for each movie from the guys in the BEQ thread.

Hi
I have come across a few problems with my AVM 60.

1) Several times when using DTS X Neural on the CD mode, I have noticed no sound coming out of all speakers when playing a CD. I have to switch modes and switch back to CD and then I get sound out of all speakers. This only happens when I use CD as my first mode when I power up the AVM 60. I listen to CD while watching TV (Directv), HDMI

2) I have noticed three times I get no sound from my height speakers. Twice when using vinyl and once on CD. I am using DTS X Neural on both modes. Again I switch the mode and switch back to CD or Vinyl and it corrects itself. I also watch TV when listening.

3) I use for listening positioning Config 1 speaker profile for music and Config 2 speaker profile for Movies. For some reason Config2 speaker profile drifted back to factory settings (all 12 feet).

I would please appreciate some feed back on these issues, thanks

Rob

What is the CD player -- a dedicated hardware player, or DVD/BD player with HDMI? Have you tied adding S/PDIF as the CD mode connection rather than HDMI? There will be no cold handshake issues with S/PDIF.

Thanks Roger
Dolby volume is turned off and my player is an Oppo 203. Not to alarmed because its just a two button tweek to put it back to normal. Your input is very much appreciated!

Anyone have problems with the speaker distances defaulting back to factory (all to 12 feet)

Thanks again

I'm sure the S/PDIF path will work (just make a new virtual input on the AVM 60 and connect the cable). OTOH, maybe changing the power up order or waiting a few seconds between powering each unit would solve it.

Once again thank you,
Gonna go with changing the power up sequence as I don't wanna crawl back there and work up a sweat ( Its a big hassle to change cables)

I just ran ARC genesis for the first time and results seem pretty good but I know it can be better. Wondering if you are setting phase on the fathoms before or after running ARC?

I launched quick measure first and played around with the Phase on each sub ( All subs are set too master and I have 1 to 2 out XLR adapter ). You have to set it before you run ARC.

I was on the Blu Ray review section and a few folks indicated that they had Denon equipment and occasionally some 4K discs contain "dynamic compression" on the disc and it triggers their avr to switch on and limit output, they say it's on the movie Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindewald, has anybody here seen this for the AVM 60? They then have to go into the menu and switch it off to get full sound? I just purchased the movie and was going to watch it tonight but would like to know if I have to switch something in my AVM 60 to get best sound quality.

That is something that I think is exclusive to D&M products and I don't recall it ever happening on my avm60. What a terrible feature though....absolutely terrible.

Thanks, didn't ever recall seeing it either, was just making sure, yes useless feature. I ended up watching the movie anyways and thought it sounded dynamic, no issues.

Thanks! That tool is extremely helpful. I would say after running Genesis calibration my system sounds the best since. Enough so I may just wait longer on upgrading my processor.

I've done that for my two SVS subs, but it doesn't matter what I change the phase to on either sub, the dB level doesn't move. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong.

Ok so I've made a few changes to my theater and it's time to run Genesis again.
Was wondering what is the best version to use?

I have the original...1st... version that was released.

Thanks in advance

I would use version 1.1.0.9006. It's the version before the current version which is 1.1.1.9105.

Let me know if you need 1.1.0.9006 for Windows. I think I still have the install.

When I changed the phase on each sub individually I noticed the graph change for the worst. The 0 phase set for each sub was the best outcome for my room

After Ed Mullen suggested adjusting phase on my 4 subs looking for the flattest FR, I also ended with each of them back to 0. Sounds fantastic.

In the Genesis thread, some reported much worse results with 9105 and went back to 9006:

Version 9006 was a really stable version that really didn't have any complaints other than the same thing Genesis has had since day one(speakers levels high). The current version 1.1.1.9105 was a beta and people noticed that the tilt didn't work right anymore. Then suddenly without fixing the tilt issue 1.1.1.9105 was suddenly the release version. I just prefer to use the last version without any known bugs than the next one with bugs.
