SVS makes a killer sub imo. It also helps I'm about 30 mins from the warehouse. Haha

Hi,

I have the new Samsung 4K player on order and Im planning to getting the Denon X2200W receiver to upgrade from my ageing Onkyo. Could someone please clarify if this reciever will pass through 4K HDR or will I need to wait for a firmware update? Someone mentioned that many HDMI 2.0a receivers don't actually support 2.0a. They need a firmware update to support it.

Thanks,

Thanks,

It needs a firmware update. When the DTS:X update is released we get hdmi2.0a at the same time. In the meantime you can hook HDMI 1 output from the player to the tv and hdmi2 out from the player to the receiver for audio. You can then enjoy HDR video and Dolby ATMOS sound until the update allows you to run one HDMI to the receiver.

Although not sure what you mean by "certain areas of the rack" as the cable is plugged into the front of the AVR and all mic positions should only be taken within a 1-2' diameter around your main listening position (ie. no other seating positions are taken into account).
Certain areas "from" the rack. I am really stretching the cord at having to keep tension on it to get center of mic at main listening spot. So I can't go right, in this case, or closer to tv. It's a large room and I'm using my center as L/R/C, which by the way is like to get something more powerful and filling if you have any recommendations, so I'm wanting audessey to grab that far side of the room for better sound.

I need to buy new HDMI cables. Would this one suffice in your opinion? http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13592

It's a slim 18Gbps cable that can support up to 4K at 60Hz. So many options nowadays, it's a little overwhelming.

No audio on analog CD input depending on TV/AVR power off/on sequence

In case this can help anyone else, here is what I found out about my non audio from analog CD source problem. If you just want the work around, assign the CD player an unused digital input to avoid this issue. Denon said they won't fix this. Below is my problem report to Denon and their response.

[Problem]
No audio from analog CD input depending on TV/AVR power off/on sequence

[Steps to reproduce]
1. Configure the AVR so that the CD's only audio input is the analog connection
2. Turn on HDMI TV and AVR
3. With AVR select an HDMI input source (CLB/SAT or Blu-ray for example)
4. Turn off the TV first (the TV must be turned off first)
5. Next turn off the AVR
6. Now turn on the AVR, but before the loud pop when its speakers go active switch to the CD input (the easiest way to do this is to simply turn the AVR on by pressing the "CD" button on the remote which both turns the AVR on and immediately switches to the CD input
7. There is no audio from the CD player! To get audio from the CD player now you must turn the TV on. As soon as the TV comes on the CD audio will be heard.

[How to avoid this problem]
Any of these methods can be used to avoid this problem:
1. Always shut the AVR off before turning off the TV
2. After turning on the AVR let it go active on an HDMI input first before switching to the CD player
3. Assign the CD player an unused digital input (like OPT2). This completely avoids the problem, but it burns a digital input unnecessarily.

[Hardware]
Model: AVR-X2200W
Firmware Version: 2400-4140-6075
CD Player: Logitech Squeezebox Classic

[Denon's response]
After some investigation with our next level tech, this happens because when the TV is off it's no longer sending EDID signal info back to the AVR. To verify, if you can unplug the HDMI cable between the AVR and TV you'll find that the audio kicks back on.
Your options are either:
A) Leave TV on when playing music
B) Install an HDMI restorer in between the AVR and TV. The restorer will save and send the TV's EDID info so the TV will no longer need to be powered on when trying to playback music. Examples of HDMI restorers:
- Atlona UHD Sync
- HD Fury Integral
- Key Digital HDFIX22
- Ethereal DAD or DAD Jr. (for 1080p)
Firmware updates do not necessarily resolve problems like this. Firmware updates can solve bugs usually. But in this case no.

Umm. No.

It's because the TV *IS* sending an EDID while in standby, which the AVR is misunderstanding. When it's powered off is when there's no EDID, so another solution is to have a switch in the TV's connection to wall power. Turn the TV all the way off.

The first is a picture of the various common house curves and the second link compares the same board used on 2013 Denon and Marantz models and you can see the HDAM circuitry populated on the Marantz model (along with the phono stage and RCA pre-outs). Properly binned for tight tolerances means the discrete components ought to be level matched more closely than using op-amps.

Beyond that, I have some understanding of what a current-controlled voltage source vs voltage-controlled current source means, transconductance and transresistance, single-ended versus differential amplifier stages (an op-amp is a high-gain, high input impedance, low output impedance differential amplifier commonly used in the pre-amp section to drive the power amp stage), negative feedback, Darlington pair transistors, and the rest of basic amplifier design theory. But I'm not an expert. :-)

As for what it sounds like, well, I'm happy with the sound of the Marantz 6010, so I think the D+M engineers did a pretty good job.
Thank you for that comprehensive reply and the links. Much appreciated.

Can anyone help me out and figure out why my x1200w won't connect faster then 65 mbps through wireless. I have 100% signal strength. I am getting full connection speed out of my other wireless n and ac devices. 65 mbps is plenty fast for audio but im still here scratching my head. I'm assuming it can connect at 130 or 144 as it has 2 antennas

I have a Denon S710W receiver, after running the Audyssey calibration it sets my speakers to -1dB on the Front and Left speakers and -4.5dB on the sub woofer.

If I then sit in my center position and use the tests tones on the reciever with my SPL meter the pink noise comes in at about 71-72dB on the each the front speakers. Which is close to the 75dB reference. If I run the noise on the sub I am only getting 58-60dB.

I am wondering why it's so much lower shouldn't it be closer to 75dB? Any idea why this would be happening? If i have the meter out while watching the audyssey calibration the test tones coming out of the sub only seem to be in this 58-60 range as well.

I am using C weighting and slow response on the meter.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ive generally required a 5db boost for my subs after XT32 completes, using a CM140 SPL meter from cross spectrum and spears and munsil ver 2 audio tones.

58-60 is way out of whack.

Its best to run the tone from a blu-ray player and not use the internal tones on the AVR.

Most find the sub to be a bit weak after running Audyssey. Simply go into Manual Setup - Test Tones - Subwoofer and bump it up +5db (ie. to +0.5db or to whatever suits your preference).

I'm pretty sure that the Denon models only implement 802.11n against the ~2.4GHz band using a single 20Mhz channel.
That gives a theoretical max speed of ~72 megabits (similar to wireless "g") so getting ~65 mbps is pretty reasonable.

If the Denon supported MIMO and 40Mhz channels, that speed would double, and likewise double again if dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) support was added.

i am also willing to take back this BRP to BB and exchange for a BRP that is

thanks again guys for your patience and inputs..
Getting this Atmos signal out of my avr-3200 is killing me.

rushed to BB after work to exchange the BDP S6500 to a Samsung BD-6500 knowing that there is definitely a BITSTREAM OPTION and not just AUTO and PCM.

these are the AUDIO SETTINGS:

BITSTREAM UNPROCESSED, (SETTING I PICKED)
BITSTREAM RE-ENCODED DTS
BITSTREAM RE-ENCODED DOLBY DTS
PCM DOWNSAMPLING: OFF(SETTING I PICKED)

with my chosen settings and a MONSTER HDMI CABLE and TERMINATOR GENISYS BLU RAY DISC, (this time i made sure it has a DOLBY ATMOS soundtrack. bought at BB) I am still not getting an ATMOS signal displayed...

can somebody look at my settings and see what im doing wrong.

will be very much super grateful... thanks again in advance.

rushed to BB after work to exchange the BDP S6500 to a Samsung BD-6500 knowing that there is definitely a BITSTREAM OPTION and not just AUTO and PCM.

these are the AUDIO SETTINGS:

DIGITAL OUTPUT: PCM,
BITSTREAM UNPROCESSED, (SETTING I PICKED)
BITSTREAM RE-ENCODED DTS
BITSTREAM RE-ENCODED DOLBY DTS
PCM DOWNSAMPLING: OFF(SETTING I PICKED)
ON
DYNAMIC RANGE CONTROL: AUTO
OFF (SETTING I PICKED)
ON
DOWNMIXING MODE: NORMAL STEREO
SURROUND COMPATIBLE(SETTING I PICKED)
DTS NEO: 6 MODE : OFF
CINEMA (SETTING I PICKED)
MUSIC
AUDIO SYNC: I JUST PICKED THE DEFAULT 0MS

with my chosen settings and a MONSTER HDMI CABLE and TERMINATOR GENISYS BLU RAY DISC, (this time i made sure it has a DOLBY ATMOS soundtrack. bought at BB) I am still not getting an ATMOS signal displayed...

can somebody look at my settings and see what im doing wrong.

will be very much super grateful... thanks again in advance.

thanks for your reply. yup i do have my connections correct. i did finally nail the correct setting.

had to turn every setting OFF, downmixing mode STEREO, and BITSTREAM - UNPROCESSED.

im happy to finally see that my 3200 is connected and set properly input wise..what i am not happy now is the samsung blu ray player i like the sony better and i think i will try it out again (wished i just did not exchange right away).

what probably mislead my line of thinking was me getting convinced that DEMO ATMOS FILES can be played via USB and get ATMOS output...which i doubt is possible. have i had a blu ray disc with an ATMOS soundtrack last night, i would have had a good nights sleep.

ill give the SONY BDP S6500 another try and hope i get the same result.

Though it's too late, Sony BDP6500 should have worked.
You will need to make sure that the secondary Audio is off on your BDP. I don't know where that setting exactly is on your Samsung. May be manual will help.

If you get back BDP6500, set BD Audio Mix Setting (under Audio Settings) to OFF. Leave the Digital Audio Output to Auto.

Yes, like I said, I can play the Atmos demo files via USB on my BDP5500, but my new Samsung UHD player doesn't support lossless audio codecs via USB, bummed.

Ive followed all settings suggested in this forum for the BDP S6500:
Digital audio output = auto
Bd audio mix = offf
Dolby d compatible output = off
Audio drc = auto
Downmix = stereo

I am able to play the ATMOS DEMO FILES via the USB port of the BDP S6500 but i do not get the ATMOS signal showing on my AVR.

the Samsung is worse. I only get video and then get prompted the audio is not supported..what the heck and its the more expensive of the two!!

What is your height speaker configuration? (I don't know if that matters or not, but)
