I am in the exact same situation as you are. I was at bestbuy yesterday and they sample atmos demo with 2 front height speakers and 2 rear ceiling with no surrounds and i was still able to hear the immerse sound. But im not sure how that would pan out in a movie setting though. im trying my best to start with at least 5.1; hopefully, the wife approves.

As I noted above 3.1.4 isn't permissable. I guarantee they actually had the second (rear) pair designated as surrounds.

I use the second HDMI output on my Onkyo because there is no processing or GUI output on that port so it keeps and additional input lag down for gaming.

On D+M models you can completely disable all video processing by setting Video Conversion off. This setting is memorized per input.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply, has anyone ever done a lag test on this?

Interesting, it didnt cross my mind. But now that you mentioned it, i think thats exactly what they did. I was probably hearing only the 2 front height speakers all along during the atmos demo.

I think it also goes to show that you can still get good sound with non-ideal speaker placement. If you're screwed by your room and can't have surrounds at ear level, it's not like the world is going to end if you use a pair of in-ceiling speakers for Atmos and then another pair behind you designated as surrounds. It's not by the book but we all deal with our own compromises the best we can.

Also just to be clear I'm not saying you WEREN'T hearing the rear ceiling speakers, just that I bet they were designated as Surround L/R in the receiver speaker config (i.e. 5.1.2) not as rear heights (3.1.4). I do think sound was coming out of all 7 speakers.

How does the model mapping work for 2015 D&M? Other than cosmetic changes and low/no amps (NR/AV series), are there any differences at all?

Looks like:
S510BT == unique?
S710W == X1200W ~= NR1506
S910W == X2200W ~= NR1606
X3200W == SR5010
X4200W == SR6010
X6200W == SR7010 ~= AV7702
X7200W ~= AV8802

So when can we expect a North American announcement?

Sure? The X2200W, SR5010, and NR1606 all appear identical feature-wise from what I can find so far.

The NR1606 is a slim-line model @ 50W and uses the lower version of Audyssey MultEQ while the other two models are full size, higher wattage, and use the more advanced version of Audyssey MultEQ XT.

The 5010 has pre outs, so it's a slight step above the 2200

Skylinestar 06-06-2015 03:06 AM

Can't wait to see Denon's speaker setup menu to implement DTS any speaker arrangement.

Yup, and it also has a higher MSRP because of that, although, regardless, it's still the sister model.

Likely simply means that any of the existing speaker labels available to a specific model under speaker configuration can be selected and DTS:X can still be used to include Front Wide (X3200W/X4200W/X6200W) with DTS Neural:X which the Dolby Surround upmixer cannot use.

Definitely eyeing that the Marantz AV7702MKII for my next build.

Is this article accurate? http://www.whathifi.com/news/marantz...grades-preamps

It claims the SR6010 will be 9.2 channel (I assume supporting 5.x.4 or 7.x.2 Atmos) for an MSRP of 900euros. That seems to be a better value then any of the reported Denon X models if true.

Just purchased s510bt from Best Buy $279.99

This is my first purchase for my new set up. I currently only have a 50ST60 Panasonic Plasma. I got this receiver because it crosses off the most 'future proof' boxes at this price point. The only thing I am not sure about is hdmi 2.0a. Since that feature probably won't be implemented in this price range for awhile I said screw it. I plan on getting Energy Take 5 Classics from Amazon for $299 to pair with it. When a decent 4K TV at an affordable price that has 10 bit, hdcp 2.2, hdmi 2.0a, etc comes out maybe by next fall or Spring 2017 I will be covered at least as far as speakers/receivers go. I will provide updates once I have it set up!

If you have a smart phone/tablet, please provide a review of the new 500 Series Bluetooth Remote app as well if you can. Thanks.

So the App works over Bluetooth instead of WiFi? Great, something else to eat up battery life on our phones/tablets! Or will that just be for the low end models?

As the app name indicates .. it's only for the non-networking S500 series models (ie. 2015 S510BT).

Looking at the S710W vs the S910W, what does "High Grade Audio Components" mean?

Skylinestar 06-10-2015 07:29 PM

Is the X4200W external amp assign (for 5.2.4) still limited to the height channel?
I would prefer to use my external amp for the fronts stereo instead of height.

Not sure how you could expect anyone to know given that the manuals haven't been released. The official announcement of the model hasn't even happened.

There is not likely to be any change, however, no spec information is likely to be available until August.

Marketing. Consider both to provide the same audio quality with the S910W offering more features.

Auro 3D will remain fee required ($199 USD) and will likely always be a fee paid upgrade (at least while still offered). Regarding the Denon models, only likely to be offered on the X4200W and X6200W.

Morning jd,

Really new to this so please bear with me. Am currently using my (7 year old) Denon 1707 and looking to upgrade in the near future. Can I find out from you what's the main difference between the S and X series?
