I would expect the 7200 will bench test slightly better than the 7010 in regards to output based on past results. For $140 I would be getting the 7200 just to start enjoying DSU 4 months earlier. There are those who have strong feelings about Marantz and how they sound. Unless you are in that category why wait?

Question Delivery/Availability Timing

Any predictions on availability of these units? I assume July-August 2015 -- not sure.

Does D+M/Marantz release (ship) all their different units at the same time, or do they roll-out progressively?

One reason would be HDCP 2.2. While it's not 100% clear, it seems that the 2015 model-year receivers will all include HDCP 2.2 which, if you want to future-proof for 4K and keep a receiver for a few years, would be worth the wait. I'm waiting (looking at the SR7010). The Wirecutter had a decent article about this earlier this year & made the case for waiting on HDCP 2.2.

The lower level models should start being released in July, with the SR6010 likely in August and the SR7010/AV7702MKII in Sep.

The non A version won't be HDCP 2.2 and DTS:X capable though if that matters, so you'd need to pay the extra for the 'A' model for that for it to be a fair comparison. The other issue is if you have enough power amp channels for your proposed Atmos/DTS:X layout. Since I'll need another 4 channels it makes sense to me to buy the AVR, but not use all the channels rather than the AVP plus another 4 channel power amp, but I can understand those who don't want unused amp channels.

Since I probably won't buy until early next year than hopefully the early bugs will be resolved by then (if any) and the price might have dropped a bit too. Since I can't install the ceiling speakers until then, there isn't much point buying a new AVR/AVP yet anyway, but I'm probably in the minority there on this forum...

That's a deal killer if it's not out when the new units become available, hopefully they will get it right.

There is a better monitoring and control available via a web browser.

If you want a useful app and have an iDevice, the DeRemote app is pretty good. It's much better than the free Denon/Marantz app with plenty of user customization possibilities. I use it regularly to control and monitor the Marantz SR-7009. The cost of the app is minimal compared to the receiver and functionality is above the price paid.

Marantz SR-7009, Oppo BPD-93, MTV 7000D, aTV, Harmony Home Control remote, KEF E301+T101, MiniDSP (2x4)+(10x10HD)+(DDRC-88A), Emotiva 2xXPA-5 (Gen2), Rythmik 2xF12G+2xF8, HiMedia Q16, LG 55EC9300.

Good info to know. I returned a 7009 for a Yamaha 2040 because of the web interface and app. Depending when and if Yamaha upgrades its cx-a5000 I plan on deciding between it and a marantz 7702 or 8802 this fall.

The 7200, depending on when its bought, either has this feature or it is available via an upgrade. As noted below those in Europe have to pay a small fee for it. If one can wait the 7010 does look very interesting, but offers nothing in features over the 7200, unless you can hear or value the supposed Marantz sound. Only say supposed to hopefully satisfy those on AVS who demand double blind test to distinguish any differences between audio devices

I have always been partial to Marantz, and enjoy their sonic signature, so I am looking forward to the 2015 Marantz range.
SteveH mentioned that the 7702 was significantly superior to the 7009, so I would like to see what the 'retuned' 7702 MK II and 7010 sound like and whether the 7010 is still one step or two down from the 7702.
And whether the 7702 MK II is a match for the Denon 7200.

It will be nice to save some amps, and use the internal channels for the surrounds / ceiling channels.

Hi Aci Alex Brill,

Welcome to AVS!

From just posts before yours, jdsmoothie advises that the lower end Marantz models (i.e. NR-1506, NR-1606 and SR-5010) will be coming out in July time frame - so next month. So not too long to go.

August for the SR-6010
September for the SR-7010 and AV-7702mkII

Marantz SR-7009, Oppo BPD-93, MTV 7000D, aTV, Harmony Home Control remote, KEF E301+T101, MiniDSP (2x4)+(10x10HD)+(DDRC-88A), Emotiva 2xXPA-5 (Gen2), Rythmik 2xF12G+2xF8, HiMedia Q16, LG 55EC9300.

Early days yet for a review to come out on the NR-1606. At best, it will tie-in with product availability date.

Does anyone know which new DAC chips will be used in the 7010?
And will those be used by all x010 devices or just the 7010 flagship?

The SR7010 and AV7702MKII will use the same DAC although different from the lower models and as yet unknown as to the DAC model number.

Not that I heard an improvement in the 7200 over the 4520, but I guess it will be wishful thinking to expect the 7010 / 7702 MK II or 6010 to have the same AKM 32bit DAC as the 7200..

Guys,

Details for the Marantz slimline receiver are now available on Marantz US website here: http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pa...Id=AVReceivers

jdsmoothie, can you please check that the network reset instructions for both the NR-1506 and NR-1606 are correct?

Thanks.

remember both the 7200 and 4520 use stereo DACs for each "pair" - so I think something like 7x AKM 32 bit DACs in the 7200

vs multi- 8 channel DACs in the lower ranges

I'd be surprised if the 7010/7702 MK II go this route - but maybe they will

prob more likely they will be using an 8 channel 32 bit DAC - of currently unknown (to us) part

Why not just check Marantz's website where details and the Owner's manual are listed there?

AKM has a new 8-channel, 32-bit DAC, the AK4458VN, which has already showed up in some Onkyo products. Perhaps Denon and Marantz have switched to it.

I was kind of hoping that the new NR-1606 would have Audyssey XT but it appears that it will not according to the Marantz site.

Need to differentiate the "NR" series from the "SR" series.

The Perfect Receiver For Me

Over in the 2015 Denon thread, I mentioned that the ideal receiver for me would be something like the new S510BT but with Audyssey and ARC or the S710W with only 5 channels and without Dolby ATMOS, DTS X, etc.

It looks like the new Marantz NR-1506 is exactly what I'm looking for! Having been a Denon guy for years but always with an eye towards the cool form factor of the slim Marantz receivers, I'm really looking forward to ordering and trying out the 1506.

The NR1506 also comes with a 3 year warranty vice only 2 on the SR710W as well as 2.2 main zone pre-outs.
