Wouldn't the tone controls on the MRX creates additional processing which then makes the MRX use its Analog to Digital processor and then its DAC?

Depending if you set on that input "Process Analog Input". In such a case all the digital (tones, speaker profile, etc) is kept out

They all have 2nd zone. For exact configuration check the manual.

If i was to make changes to the different Profiles, do i need the laptop to change targets and recalculate?

What if i just want Profile 1 for movies with atmos, i just leave all speakers on with sub,
for Profile 2 i like 2 channel music no sub,
for Profile 3, 2 channel music with sub,
for Profile 4, 7.1

Can i just simply make changes on the receiver and not recalculate on laptop and then upload the new files?

TIA

That’s exactly what i do. 5.1, 5.1.4, 2.1 and 2.0. Works beautifully. You don’t have to recalculate anything as long as you set it in the app before calculate/upload, which is what I did.

Pending new MRX 1120 owner

Good afternoon!

This weekend I decided to take the plunge and purchased a MRX 1120, which should be arriving later this week. I am upgrading from a Marantz SR7011 receiver.

In preparation for delivery and the install, I have a few basic questions. Any help will be appreciated.

1) I have a Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 speaker config, where the ".4" speakers are all in the ceiling. With my Marantz reciever, there was a distinction between "Height" and "Top" speakers. In the documentation I have read so far Anthem only refers to these speakers as "Height". Any real issues here?
2) I want to use the remaining 2 channels of amplification as Zone 2. In looking at the speakers posts on the back of the receiver, I guess I will use the speakers posts labelled "Back L and Back R"?
3) It appears I need to measure the physical distance of each of my 9 speakers to my primary listening position before I run ARC?
4) I plan to use DTS Play both in my primary listening room, as well as Zone 2 and other rooms in the home. Any issues with doing this?

Thanks much for any help and guidance you can give me.

Regards,
Brian

From one Brian to another, I can answer a couple off your questions.

1. Not sure why you think Anthem only refers to Height. This is from the manual:

HEIGHT SPEAKER TYPE AND POSITION

Two or four speakers may be installed in the ceiling or on the wall near the ceiling. In addition a special type of height speaker, referred to as Dolby-enabled, may be placed on top of existing speakers. It works by bouncing height information off the ceiling.

Using the room layout diagrams as a guide, select from the following possibilities to match your height speakers:

Front In-Ceiling
Front Dolby
Front On-Wall
Middle In-Ceiling
Middle Dolby
Back In-Ceiling
Back Dolby
Back On-Wall

With the most recent update to ARC2, I think one of the positions was eliminated...can't recall which off hand.

3. Yes, ARC does not measure or calculate distance. However, you can enter the values before or after the running ARC.

Probably not a bad idea to pull the manual off of Anthems web site. Lots of very helpful info to be found.

Thanks for the tip but after running ARC it auto uploads. My next question is if i configure the Profiles on the receiver, will the effects be the same if i re-calculate then upload? Or are you saying change Profiles on the laptop then upload? What is the difference between the two different methods?

Thanks again.

Run it in manual not auto. You’ll have more control with all 4 profiles in the target option. ARC will overwrite the receiver settings on upload.

It's better just put your speaker just physically at the menu setting distance, like 5,6,7 ft .
But for SUB , you need add distance by electrical time delay, may need some measurement to do it exactly.

anthem mrx720, ps4/ps4 pro handshake issues

Hi everyone, I posted this in the PS4 forum, but no luck so far. I hope this is an appropriate place to post. Long story short, my PS4 pro (and previous ps4) won't play nice with my receiver. The Anthem will receive the signal, but it won't output anything to the tv. My setup is PS4 pro, anthem mrx-720 and sony z9d. I have an oppo 205 that works just fine with the anthem.

I have updated the firmware in all products.

I have turned off CEC (Bravia Sync).

I have played with HDMI cables and I have also connected the PS4 pro directly to the TV and the signal goes through just fine.

The anthem receiver shows that it is receiving signal just fine. I even tried to hard set the ps4 to 1080p and limited RGB but it automatically upscales those when connected to the tv or receiver.

I also tried to use the ARC bypass hdmi output as well.

I can't seem to figure it out. I was thinking someone here must have a ps4 they are using with their receiver that may be able to chime in.

I apologize if I am not posting in the correct area. Thanks.

Thanks other Brian!

The unit comes tomorrow afternoon and I've pretty much memorized that parts of the manual that are applicable to my setup. This weekend should be fun

On a slightly different topic, yesterday I measured all of my speaker distances manually. I also looked at the "measurements" my Marantz system calculated during auto-calibration. They are slightly different (between 5-10%). Should I use one over the other, average the two, or do I simply worry too much?

I don't sweat it, and just go with values I measure using a laser tape measure.

Fingers crossed that you don't get wrapped around the axle with network connectivity issues. You would not be the first, and it really is a nut buster when it does happen, in particular if you are doing your initial set-up and are very anxious to hear what ARC can do.

Try different HDMI inputs on the 720. There have been a couple people who couldn't get a piece of gear to work with a certain HDMI input but it worked fine with other ones.

Thanks I am going to try it again. I think I tried to switch it with my bluray player. I am also wondering if this a pervasive problem or does anyone have own a ps4 with the mrx720 and has it working with no issues.

My PS4 going through my 1120 has repeatedly had problems over the past year. It causes my projector to flicker and displays HDMI 1 on the screen. Audio never cuts but i lose video for seconds at a time. Happens when PS4 using Netflix and games or streaming from video player. Haven't seen it happen while playing a BluRay movie. I've tried different HDMI cables but no fix. If I select another input or unplug and replug the HDMI going into the projector the problem is gone for that viewing session.
I've tried unplugging all HDMI from AVR and that worked for a couple days.

Fingers crossed that you don't get wrapped around the axle with network connectivity issues. You would not be the first, and it really is a nut buster when it does happen, in particular if you are doing your initial set-up and are very anxious to hear what ARC can do.
Since I am using a physical LAN connection I sure hope there are no issues; in all the receivers I've owned in the past 15 years I've never had a network issue..

I am glad to hear that someone has the 720 without any issues. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. I used the PS4 hdmi cable without any success and i tried the hdmi port that my oppo was hooked through with no success.

I think if I can't get it figured out, I am just going to do video connected to my TV through HDMI and just do an optical cable to my receiver for sound output. Not as clean, but it doesn't look like I have any other choice.

Check amazon and get an HDMI signal booster/repeater to increase the HDMI signal. It sounds like you're not getting a strong enough signal when going through the 720. They are around $20 and just make sure you follow the directions as to where to place it in the signal path. Some go at the receiver and some at the display.

Immediate help please!

My MRX 1120 arrived today, and I have spent several hours disassembling my old setup, and connecting everything up to the 1120.

Here is my issue. After loading in the latest firmware update from the Anthem site (03.079) onto my USB stick in the root position (with the .fw file extracted) and following the update instructions exactly, I keep getting a "No Update Found" message. Goodness sakes this is frustrating, and Athem's technical support is closed for the weekend.

Please help me here folks...
