What mbroadus said.

Also Anthem currently has a promo of 20% trade up event, which in my case actually beat what the dealer was initially offering.

As for your earlier question,I went with the 1120, given the 20% off made the difference only $800 CAD, or about $620 USD, and I need 11 channels of amplification.

For the savings if getting the 720, I could have maybe gotten an Outlaw 5000, but felt wasteful to use 4 out of its 5 channels just for the overheads, plus I really have no room in my cabinet .. so would have been a hassle for me setting everything up. I thought I did, but had to get rid of the middle shelf to help with ventilation, so now I am really glad I went with the 1120.

Other than that, if you have room to spare, and don't mind separate amps (if in the need for 11 channels), the 720 is probably the better buy.

Yup just order from Crutchfield to get 20% off (they are an authorized dealer). You'll have to call them for the discount and they won't even ask you to actually send in an old receiver. They will just ask you to recycle it properly.

Might be soon. They are typically not yearly like some, but these are approaching two years. Having a 20% off promo is a sign they are trying to move inventory.

I was told most manufacturers are holding off on major releases until the next HDMI spec is certified. That is supposed to happen at the end of this year, then design, then manufacturing...could be a year or more.

For a while now Anthem has been releasing new products every 3 years. The current MRX line was in US hands in early January 2016, though a few posters had it on December 31, 2015. So we might see a new model very late this year or January next year.

I 'mcurious what they could add to a new MRX line from an audio standpoint that would justify upgrading from the current line. When we went from the MRX x00 to the MRX x10 there wasn't much worth upgrading for. But the MRX x20 models offered Atmos which a big leap forward like going from old Dolby Prologic to Dolby Digital 5.1 back in the day so the upgrade was well worth .

Any of you guys have a wish list of what you'd like audio or video wise in a new model?

DTS:X Virtual?
Possibility of 5.1.2 Atmos processing with pre-outs on 5x0 model?
ARC software native to macOS?

Analog Direct Mode

Hi All- Been browsing this sub and there is not a definitive answer, just some debate! When using an analog input, is there digital processing that occurs even when you turn off analog processing?

Every analog source when you bypass digital processing indicates 48 KHZ when you hit the info button, which leads me to believe there is some sampling (down) going on. I called Anthem and they said the info is just ‘defaulting to that’, but when I turn processing on, it jumps to 96 KHZ.

Anthem didn’t sound confident, they said “it probably is the default because the processing is off”.

Anyone know?

I don't know. How is it connected to the anthem? Straight HDMI? If you are going some form of analog io it would sound like induced noise.

Could also be ground loop between the PC and Subwoofer.
Is the PC plugged into a different outlet/surge protector from all of your other equipment?
Does it use a 3 pin cable?
Does your sub also use a 3 pin cable?

Try ground lifting the sub and see if it goes away. If so, it's ground loop.

It'd be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. So I went to the trouble to create a partition of about 50 GB on my MacBook, download Window 10, and run ARC. Windows 10 is basically free. You can download a trial, you'll get reminders from time to time to register it, but that's it. They don't police it. You're even allowed to update it as updates become available. A few features are stuck like the ability to change the desktop image, but nothing of real consequence. It was a pain, not ever having used a windows machine, but I never use it except to run ARC.

Anthem told me the iPhone app has all the same computing power as the computer app, it just doesn't allow customization. I used the iPhone app when I first got my Anthem, but with the internal mic. I'd like to get the calibrated Anthem iPhone mic. When I bought the Anthem I had read it was provided like the regular mic, but that turned out not to be the case, but I may still buy one.

Yea...I ended up buying a cheap Dell laptop to run ARC but still may get the mic.

Here's a reply I received from Anthem about purchasing the mic:

"We have a microphone for ARC mobile. It is a dual jack microphone, it has a 3.5mm connection, and a micro USB connection. An iPhone would use the 3.5mm jack.

These microphones are $67 + shipping. Part# 2080000332

These can be ordered at a local dealer or by contacting our parts desk directly.

Yes , only HDMI from the PC to the Anthem MRX 720. From there it goes with cinch to the Subwoofer.
The PC is an another Outlet (AC) as the subwoofer. The Subwoofer and the PC use a 3 pin Power Cable with GND.
Can i protect the Subampi. with the PC ?

You do not have the subwoofer connected to the 720, i.e. PC via HDMI to 720 to sub?

Sure, other 520 owners post here. If I'm not mistaken back when the thread was created Anthem hadn't announced 520 so the OP created the thread for the new models that Anthem had announced.

Strange Issue Has Arisen

After having no problems with my 1120 for 6 months connecting with DTS Play-Fi, starting this week the app will just not connect with the 1120. Spotify has the same issue. And by the way, I am getting a normal network connection in my house according the the 1120's menu.

Time for a hard reboot?

Every analog source when you bypass digital processing indicates 48 KHZ when you hit the info button, which leads me to believe there is some sampling (down) going on. I called Anthem and they said the info is just ‘defaulting to that’, but when I turn processing on, it jumps to 96 KHZ.

Anthem didn’t sound confident, they said “it probably is the default because the processing is off”.

Anyone know?
Hello,
There absolutely is no processing going on via the analog inputs. It is stated in the manual, as well as mentioned in several forums particularly the Oppo 205 thread. The only thing that is functional is the volume. I wondered about this as well. I have a 1120 with a Oppo 205 and use the 205 as a transport with a Schiit Yiggy. The sound is amazing and the only processing is done in either the 205 or the Yiggy.

Regards
Jeff

^ What he said. When Analog Processing is off for a given Analog Input there is no digital processing. All you get is Volume control.

Time for a hard reboot?
Check in the Play-Fi app to see if it needs to do an update of the firmware specific to the Play-fi hardware in your Anthem -- which is also its networking hardware.

If the app doesn't let you get to that Update page, start over with the process for letting the app discover the Anthem -- i.e., by first doing the Reset of the Play-fi hardware using the back-panel button for the Play-fi hardware.
