Just ordered a refurb 720 from Anthem. It’s replacing my Denon 4520. I’m really excited about ARC.

Boom Boom, out go the lights.

Congratulations... I'm sure you'll be very happy with the Anthem.
All you need to do now is replace that Denon Logo with an Anthem Logo in your aviator...lol

At this stage even if it's released before end of this week, I won't be able to use it as I can't get to my place to use the 1120 anyways.. At least I feel confident it will be here by the next visit

What part of ARC excites everyone on this thread? I have an MRX 720 and I fail to see much value in that feature. I have "full range" fronts (PSB X2Ts) and PSB surrounds and center (all from the X2 family) and post-ARC, I have had to increase the surround and center volume each by 3dB. I don't understand the fuss about ARC. What am I missing? The crossovers are anyway automatically set at 80Hz for bass (i.e., everything below that is sent to the subwoofer), but that information is available easily.

No, ARC might vary the crossovers depending on what it discovers about our room and your speakers. The non-ARC default is 80Hz, yes. However, you can change these in the ARC profiles and do a LOT of experimenting with the various parameters. In a *perfect* room, you might not need or desire any form of room correction. In a less than perfect room, like mine, the differences of ARC performance vs. no ARC is very noticeable. ARC makes definite improvements in my space. The only level I've messed with is with subs, adding 3dB after ARC, personal preference. Everything else seems to be dialed in quite nicely.

Some folks prefer no ARC, some prefer it - really just depends. BUT - I think one must truly understand it and know how to use/exploit it to be truly critical of it. This takes time of course.

Your room is different than other people's room. Your crossovers are different, your reflections are different, etc.

ARC measures your room, not just your equipment. Then it makes adjustments accordingly.

After running ARC, I like to add 2-3 dB of room gain, which ARC allows, then and I adjust my speaker levels with an SPL to make sure everything is at 75 dB from the main listening position.

While we wait for the new ARC genius to drop. When does everyone think we will get the models? I think the 20 versions have been out for 3 years. Are they waiting for HDMI 2.1? New sound formats?.. I'm not in any real hurry to upgrade but most manufactures deliver new models every year or two. Just thinking.. My 1120 has preformed flawlessly for the last 2 years. I added the new Emotiva DR3 for the FCR and now it sounds even better.

Out of the box, the most noticeable change was seamless sub integration. I eventually moved Max EQ down to 500 Hz instead of the default of 5K to have ARC continue to deal with room modes. It sounds great!

Just one more upgrade and things will be perfect.

Ok so here's a question for you...

How many of you are going to install the up date as soon as it launches?

Myself, I think I might give it a week or two to see how it goes... make sure there's no bugs.

Just wondering what you all are thinking...

Depends on the nature of the change. If it requires a firmware patch, I'll wait. If it's just ARC2 software, I'll try it right away.

Anybody know if there will be a firmware patch with this?

It's stand alone calibration software, either try it out and see what the a calibration sounds like with it. If for some reason unsatisfied with the results, reload your previous calibration in no time at all, it's not permanent. Its not an update in the firmware sense so quite different. If the new software has issues they'll be fixed, your MRX isn't going glitch out or anything meanwhile..

I don't anticipate my avm 60 to glitch out..

So you think that once you move from ARC-2 to Genesis you will be able to revert back to ARC-2 as if nothing ever changed?

Interesting....tell me more please...

I was thinking Genesis might be a new, separate install, and ARC 2 would still be available. Like they did for ARC 1 and ARC 2. If that's the case, I will definitely install it right away and give it a whirl, figuring that if I don't like what it did, I can reload my last ARC 2 calibration.

I'll definitely wait. I never adopt anything early. Just look at that nightmare with the new JVC projectors. No thanks, I'll wait for generation 2 or 3 of those.

My gut is, this will be a cool, fun tool that won't make a lick of audible difference in the end. Just prettier graphs with more control.

Hopefully, there's more to it than what I'm expecting.

If this is the case ...and I hope it is, I'll definitely be doing the same.

On the other hand, if it is tied to the Dolby surround upmixers limiter or the likes I might sit on it a minute.
I really don't have any issues with the way ARC-2 performs now...

I will download it to my MacBook right away but will probably not run it until I get my new sub next month. This will give me some time to see what problems you guys are having and have them corrected. I will then proceed to throw away my windows laptop.

You can always load the old version of arc if there are bugs. Reupload your old file... Or at least you could revert to older versions before genesis

Exactly. If it's just Genesis and not a firmware upgrade to go with it, then we can just upload Genesis and if we don't like it just upload our old ARC2 file or rerun ARC2 on our MRX. We can install Genesis to a different folder than ARC2 and have both on the same machine.

Up to this point I think we have always been able to drop back to earlier versions of firmware and ARC-2 if things don't work out. Is that accurate?

If that's true maybe ARC Genesis adoption risk is very low and only costs time.
