I see you use ML speakers too and if I see it correctly you are using the Motion 4 for overhead? If so how are they as I was going to get them too for the same purpose but I thought they were too directional for Atmos. BTW the Anthem really brings out the best of the ML setup IMO.

JVC RS620/X9500 in bat cave Anthem MRX-720 + 3xpower amps = 7.1.4, Martin Logan Motion 60XT fronts, ML FX rears, ML Motion 50XT centre, 4 x ML Motion 2 on ceiling Atmos, ML Balanced force 210 as the beast. Anthem new Receiver and Processor support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X

What do you think of the following combo:

- Pioneer SC-LX59 9.2 channels
- Pioneer A-10 2.0 amplifier

This might be the cheapest 7.2.4 route with 11.2 calibration ATM. And I hear MCACC is not bad. Saves 2-3 grands ;-)

I suggest to open a new thread for this so users with that equipment can chime in. What I can say is if you like the Anthem SQ you may be somewhat disappointed with the Pioneer especially with its room correction.

@Bandyka I had the M4 wired for FH in Audyssey DSX so I simply repurposed for Atmos FH. I use brackets to aim them to fit the Atmos layout. Ultimately, I boosted the heights level +3 as I was not hearing the .4 clear enough. ML makes some nice ceiling speakers which are likely better, but I already had these. I haven't done the RH yet because I need to drop the rear channel to ear height which forces me to in wall speakers. Then repurpose those M4 to RH.

@hasta666 I have no experience with pioneer AV equipment, but I do have experience with cheap. I would have come out ahead in the long run had I purchased quality over price.

Yes I found that I generally needed to bump up atmos speaker volume levels too which is fine. What I am really interested in was if they are not too directional as Atmos speakers should be wide dispersion. I don't have holes in the ceiling so I made mounting brackets for them too and these would fit nicely as well. The current Paradigms are not bad but I would like to match the rest of my setup in tonality.

So true, you try to save and you usually end up being disappointed, selling, losing, and getting the better stuff anyway. Learned the hard way.

My room is 16 ft wide, the FH are mounted front wall 14 ft wide 8 ft high. The first row is 10 ft back, second row is 14 ft back. We hear objects where they should be so it works. I am waiting for DTS:X to further evaluate my M4 heights. Not ideal, but good enough for me for now.

Regarding tonality and speaker timbre, that is a great debate. Some insist on it while others call shenanigans since room EQ accounts for it.

Great to hear thanks. What I meant was that I ideally want to match all of the tweeters so I have as close as possible to the ML folded motion tweeters producing those marvellous highs I love up above as well.

Like I said in my earlier post, if you got the 720 (~$2500) and the Inuke Nu4 6000 (~$350) you'd be sitting at less than 3K for a sweet setup. It's like having your cake and eating it too.

Sweet. Let us know your impressions. I'm sure you'll find it will make your setup sing.

A great movie for a tester and one that has a good Atmos mix is Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

Use Dolby volume and you lose your Atmos. I thought my 1120 was broken because the ceiling speakers didn't work. I had turned on DV as part of set-up. I go commando now.

I noticed first off that DV kills the dynamics so never used it. I am now experimenting doing a full manual calibration and not using room correction at all. There seems to be more detail flying around.

On another note I' lost both back ceiling speakers the other day and only a reset got them back on so I suspect there is a bug in the system somewhere. Just FYI.

How do you do a full manual calibration with the anthem and ARC2? In ARC1 about the only control you have is the crossovers, room gain and sub curve.

My last experience with MCACC was the sc-57 - at that tiem I preferred Audyssey. NowI'd rate ARC and Dirac both over Audysseyy. Of course, i understand MCACC has been improved greatly since then so all this is moot anyway

By ear However good ARC is I found it cuts away some high frequency content that simply should be present so done lots of going back and forth and I prefer ARC completely off for full detail. I may try and play with measuring speakers individually and adjusting their frequency curve if I can.

You can adjust the ARC EQ frequency to 250Hz (or another frequency) for only bass management and avoid your high end being touched.

Yeah I have set up ARC to only correct the bass as well since my room treatment and furnishings take care of the upper region quite well.

It messed up my sub as well since it has its own Martin Logan calibration software especially designed for the sub so its much better off without ARC, so when I've done the calibration I've excluded the sub. So sub perfectly calibrated to room on its own and ARC off as it cuts detail. I am happy now but still experimenting. I've been switching ARC on and off a 1000 times to compare and while it does eliminate some room issues in the process it does eliminate more detail as well so I am leaving it off.

ARC is still miles ahead of other room EQ though but I am just to sensitive to loss of detail.

Definitely changing my mind for Arcam now that you say you disabled ARC completely. What's the point in being robbed (Anthem robs you in Europe in terms of pricing) if it's for disabling the main feature of the receiver. From reviews however, ARC is usually praised. Still I got your point, thanks for sharing this.
