Problem is....i want a one box solution for 7.2.4, so the arcams are out.

I saw the avr550 advertised on HiFiShark, with the low price from audioweb.ro.

So I finally received my 1120. Wow I am honestly blown away. I can only count 2 times I have been blown away by a piece of AV equipment and this makes the 3rd and the only time it was a piece of audio equipment. This is by far one of the most robust, full sounding AVR's I have ever heard. It breaths new life into my system to the point it doesn't even sound like mine. It took what I had thought way a pretty solid system and made it amazing.

So happy with this unit. Price of entry was questionable to me at first but it's definitely worth the price of admission.

Does the 720 provide information on the video signal it's receiving, particularly the color space such as BT.2020? With today's new formats, I think that information is helpful.

Congratulations! Glad you're happy with your new toy, I should have my 720 delivered this Saturday! A couple of questions:

1. If I connect sources with HDMI will the audio come thru Zone 2 as stereo?
2. Can you guys explain to me the Volume scale, I'm used to 0 to 75.

Thanks, can't wait!!

I just hooked up a 520.

I updated the software, and ran ARC2 and it's sounding pretty nice. Quick question, do I have to set the speaker distances with ARC2 myself?

I was just reading the manual and it states you set distances in the setup menu

Correct, you have to manually set them. I too was kind of baffled by this since cheaper receivers claim to do this for you, but it makes sense in the end because depending on your room, echos, etc, even the best technology can get it wrong. Setting it manually eliminates that guess work.

The beauty of these AVR is that they don't mess with the signal so no info there its the job for the display device.

Thanks - I was hoping it could report additional info since my TV doesn't report anything other than the resolution for the input signal and my source devices don't state the output video format. Therefore, you can't determine what color space is being output, the frame rate, etc. if you select Auto in the settings.

Setting what Carbo? If you're talking about distance, set it and you're finished. No need to rerun ARC

Yes, I should have been more clear. I wasn't sure if I needed to rerun ARC2 after changing the speaker distances. Gotcha.

Thanks

Can I know for the manual setting of the speaker distances, it is to what level of resolution? E.g. 0.5 ft?

I always thought that the distance setting is a function of time alignment. I'm quite surprised that with ARC2, the auto calibration does not account for the aforementioned. I may be wrong though.

I'm still messing with it and trying to get AVR and Harmony Elite squared away and I do not use Zone 2 yet...but I plan on it in a specific input setting just haven't gotten around to it yet. So right now I'm not sure. the volume scale is -90 > 0

The only thing I am wondering about is if there is an ECO setting. This thing has my panamax all over the place. Trying to figure that out right now.

Resolution is 1 foot, which is more than enough for audio.

Distance is time alignment, ARC does not do time alignment. It's not possible for ARC to compute delay due to unknown time delays due to the PC, and it's not necessary either, it's easy to measure and set it yourself, and more accurate.

Yeah, I had a bad experience at CEDIA last year and the Anthem booth. I wasted about an hour at the booth trying to get a demo... Every time I stopped, either the demo guy was on break, or they "just closed the door," or the worst was the one time I stood there with some lady at the booth (who seemed to be more interested in talking with her coworker), and I even told her that I was back, again, to try to get a demo. I waited, and finally said "I am going over 'here' to look at some Anthem products closer, let me know when I can go in." I was still in their booth area, and she was so absorbed in her chit chat that she didn't tell me when I could go in. There was never a line for the demo room, so it seemed pointless to keep standing at an unmarked door (there were 2 doors, if I remember correctly, and neither were marked, but it seemed like only 1 was used and I never saw anyone ever go in or out). Anyway, I pretty much said screw it. Never buying one of their products... I knew that other companies were still just getting things started for upcoming, but not announced, 11.2 receivers, so I just figured that I would be waiting until mid-2016 to upgrade...

Flash forward to Late January/early February 2016. People were raving about the Anthem products and how great they sound. I jumped in, feet first, product unheard (despite many efforts to hear them at CEDIA 2015) and paid more than I ever imagined I would on a receiver.... It was worth it.

Now tomorrow, at CEDIA 2016, I WILL get that demo (even though I own the 1120)..... I WIIIILLLLLLL...

You should've reported those employees to Anthem for such bad service.

Thanks, I was hoping for a professional review before my purchase but Ive been following Anthem for a while and reading previous generation reviews and owner forums and it seems like the vast majority is satisfied with their receivers. My concern is the 720 without a toroidal transformer and will it be a good match for my B&Ws?

@Sammie2980 I did the same, listening for quite a while prior to running ARC2 to erase my Audyssey ears. My room's midrange is harsh because I don't yet have treatments.

I did five different measurement files to determine how best to use ARC2. I started with near field measurements within two feet of my ears. As I expanded the measurements distance, I found the bass management mellow which was more pleasant for me.

I highly recommend using quick measure to dial in your sub response, then taking measurements for the room. Also, make sure you have the latest ARC2 version as it is improved sonically.

Yeah, I figured that they lost a potential buyer and even possible "advocate" for them, and that was punishment enough, but in all honesty, me being upset and telling myself that I would never buy Anthem really meant nothing. That said, I wonder how many other people, of more importance than me, had a similar experience and they were turned off to the product line as well.

Also, keep in mind that this was Day 1 of the CEDIA show floor being open. It wasn't like I tried to get a demo as things were winding down. Usually you get a little extra attention, more smiles, etc on the first day as the vendors aren't quite exhausted yet.

Somewhere I did a report of CEDIA 2015, and even posted pictures of the Anthem products and told my story about not getting a demo. I will have to find what website I posted that on and see just how angry I worded things, vs today being a big fan of the product line.

Maybe I just don't hold a strong enough grudge. LOL

It’s all about the music for me. Home theater is secondary.

About a month ago I bought a pair of Goldenear Triton Two+ speakers. After a 2 week break in period, they sound amazing. I love them and could not be happier. So then I thought it was time to upgrade my receiver.

I went from a Marantz SR6006 (using Amazon FireTV to stream music with Plex) to the Anthem MRX 720. One of the main reasons for upgrading was for ARC. The other was that I wanted the ability to stream FLAC above 24/48kHz (FireTV & Plex) with DTS Play-Fi. The Anthem marketing material and the user guide says it can handle 24/192 FLAC. But after my own experiments & contacting support, they tell me it’s currently limited to 24/96. They said Play-Fi would eventually do 24/192, but they did not have a timeline.

The 720 is ok. But for $2500 I expected the Anthem to be a clear winner over Marantz. It has only been a minimal improvement.

A colleague suggested disabling ARC for music, but I haven't had a chance to try it out.

Any other suggestions? With ARC disabled, would you expect the Anthem to be a clear winner over the Marantz?

Have fun tomorrow at CEDIA and don't forget about us less fortunate folks and gives a round down of your experience especially at the Anthem booth.

I did the same thing bought sight unseen unheard and was really questioning it due to the price and the fact that the Denon X6300H was announced and is cheaper and has bluetooth/airplay. But since I ordered it I decided to wait to it came in and make a decision. SOOOO glad I did. You made the right call imho. I figure I wanted something that just excelled at audio, I don't need all the little bells and whistles, thats is what chrome cast and apple tv's are for. That's what made me even start looking at Anthem and after listening to it with various content I knew I made the right choice.
