Question: Just received my Sony HDR capable TV. If I connect my Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player to my 3050 will I be able to pick up HDR signals even without the HDMI 2.0a update?

Thanks in advance for an answer

Or even the second Transformers that was the same way. There wasn't another lossless track for these movies to do a direct comparison but even the Yamaha was able to confirm that the second Transformers was at -4 decibels lower. You DO NOT need a direct comparison to know that an audio track is underwhelming.
BTW, The Lucy blu ray with Atmos is in my top 3 all time for best Atmos tracks thus far. This movie wasn't much of anything but if you listen to the Atmos track,it will blow you away!
You're trying to say that you CAN compare one movie in Atmos to a totally different movie in DTS:X simply by level matching.

That's... that's not even possible.

You can't make that kind of comparison. What is being compared when two totally different movies with two totally different mixes are involved?

Now.... like I said, if a title existed that had both Atmos and DTS:X on it then in that case, yes, level match.

At least, they got their update.
What I find to be a head scratcher is that many D&M owners have reported distortion coming from the center channel when using Neural:X to upmix stereo content (apparently a bug). A few of us do not have this issue. FYI: I have a Denon 6200. See post 1485

Yammie owners, hang in there. I expect Yamaha is doing their best to try an offer a clean update. At this point in time, the DTS:X ecosystem is pretty much in its infancy so you're not missing much.

Or something.... idk but jesus dude.
Agreed. I'm fine without playing my one DTS:X BD (The Last Witch Hunter) till all serious bugs have been squashed. The HDR change is more interesting to me, but I fear that from what I've read on the JVC projector forum (my projector is a JVC), I'm concerned that my Samsung UBD-K8500 may not play nicely with my 5100 or my projector.

Yes! I do have friends with D+M products and they are enjoying their DTS:X update with bugs if for 1 second you think that Yamaha Update will have no bugs, then I hope you are very close to a bathroom when the update get released.

What I am saying is that you can tell if an audio track is superb or not by LISTENING to it.I'm sure you have movies in mind that you would consider reference quality for audio. Now did you do a direct comparison of these same movies with both lossless DTS and lossless Dolby Truehd to figure this out? Of course not. You're making it too complicated.Look at the reviews from any site including this one. When they give a rating for an audio track, you think that they have to find the lossless counterpart before making this grade? I guarantee you that if you raise the volume of ANY audio track by 4 decibels without distorting or making the sound harsh,in general,it will sound 100% better than before.YOU DO NOT NEED a comparison to know whether an audio track rocks or simply fizzles...

There are your average bugs, then there are what we call "STOP SHIP" bugs here at work. From what I have read, D&M had at least one that I would classify as that (the serious center channel distortion with stereo in neural:x comes to mind).

Did D+M acknowledge the bug and are they going to fix it?

I don't know if they did or not. I quit reading about their bugs after a while since I don't own any of their products. Given that I have 6 Yamaha devices to update, I'm just hoping that I'll only need to do it once (or at least not too often/soon again).

I finally installed to front height speakers, but now I can't get ATMOS to engage. My receiver is the 2050. If i switch to a DSP, it shows my front heights. In straight mode it only shows dolby true hd and five channels. I'm using a PS4 and i tried San Andreas and Transformers Age of Extinction. I did enable object decode. Anything else I'm missing?

The point is that the comparison would be of the movies' mixes. Whether it rocks or fizzles can't be attributed to it being mixed in Atmos or DTS:X.

You do realize that it is unlikely that any of the support folks will know the answer to this. I expect that you'd have to reach a developer that is working on the project for any hope of finding out what is the holdup. Oh, and it's unlikely they would be at liberty to give you an answer.

It could be that Engineering is keeping it close to the vest (not atypical), NDA restrictions, avoiding a public pissing contest between Yamaha and DTS, etc. Generally first level support is kept in the dark.

How much did Yamaha pay you to be their spoke person in this Forum, you have in defense their products ever since the Aventage 50 series was released.

I doubt anyone is paid to be a spokesperson for yamaha, however this is a yamaha forum so the people here like their products and dont talk down on them every chance they get. Put your yamaha on craigslist! Hell i might buy it from you just so you move over to the Denon or marantz thread and complain there! Stop whining!!

Hello guys I'm new here, been reading this tread for a couple mouths now thanks to all for the info you guys have provided me with on the A3050.
I got a question I read about the dolby atmos experience on the atmos thread this moring so i tried to stream that from my sony 4K but it wouldnt
let me decode the atmos playback. the ARC is working with my system is it something to do with the TV playing through AUD1. Cause i tried through
a cheap(50.00) Sony Blu-Ray player and it played back the Atmos. Anyone got a idea why my TV wont play this back. Thanks again for all the info
you guys have given me.

Seems my audio dropouts may have been caused by Plex Media Player. I swapped it out for Kodi/Plexkodiconnect and I haven't had an issue all day. Weird. I'm just glad it isn't the Yamaha because I actually like it.

The only movie with atmos that I have that has audio drop outs is John Wick and that was for the first 20 mins, the rest of my atmos movies play perfectly.

Atmos metadata can only be carried by a DD+ or TrueHD audio stream. ARC (on every TV made to date) supports neither; therefore, no Atmos.

Just woke up. oooooOOOOH

Not to worry the update will come one day in the next 6 months. again I prefer to wait another month but at least they should get it 98% right. Maybe they should release the HDMI 2.0a update only whilst they are fixing this DTS X mess.
