So these newest Elite receivers (95, 97, 99) pretty much encompass all of the latest technologies - correct?

Dolby Atmos
Full Bandwidth HDMI (4K UltraHD 60P/4:4:4) with HDCP 2.2
Upgrade to HDMI 2.0a - confirmed?
Upgrade to DTS:X

Anything they are missing?

If they get the 2.0a update, i can't see anything missing.

Btw, do we know when the DTS X firmware will be avaliable?
Couldn't find any info about this.

So what about crossover settings for individual speakers? Possible with the SC-95? I couldn't tell from the manual.

JDSmoothie, would this receiver integrate with a 2 channel amp running LR mains? Its an integrated amp that has a processor pass through mode for surround receiver integration. There are balanced XLR and unbalanced single ended inputs.

Thanks!

Edit: thinking of the SC-99 specifically

That makes perfect sense for for an object rendering system. Consider: At any point in time, a dynamic object is essentially a virtual speaker created by three (or more) real speakers ("the active triangle"). For SPL stabilization from 20Hz to 20kHz, the crossover value for the virtual speaker must be at least the highest crossover value among the three speakers in the current active triangle. So far so good, but when the dynamic object moves far enough, it reaches a point where one of the three speakers in the current active triangle drops out of the basic set, and a new active triangle is formed from the two remaining speakers, plus one new speaker. This requires calculation of a new crossover value for the virtual speaker. If the new virtual speaker crossover value differs from the old one, any "imperfect" audio system might well generate a perceptible frequency spectrum change every time there is a change in the active triangle. A better solution would seem to be to ensure that each possible active triangle will use the same virtual crossover value . . . by applying a system global crossover value.

Pretty much.

I can see myself spending some money at Magnolia in the near future. I think I have it narrowed down to the Yamaha 3050 and SC-97..

Hi,

HDMI 2.0a upgrade confirmed by Pioneer for all 2015 models wich will be HDR and Rec.2020 compatible.
The upgrade is already available for non elite 2015 models.

My French is not so good but I understand the SC-95-97-99 will ship with HDMI 2.0a already installed, no upgrade necessary. Can anybody confirm ?

I was so happy without HDR...

Although the new HDMI 2.0a board would be installed, there may be some firmware EDID updates required to make it function correctly.

SC-95 vs SC-91

For a 2 or 3 channel setup, what's the case for upgrading to the SC-95 ? Looking on Pioneer's site, I wasn't sure what Stream Smoother or Pure Cinema features were that . The site certainly doesn't make it easy to see what you're getting for the extra money. Just wondering what the major extra features are. I only wish it were physically smaller. Everything seems to be shrinking these days except for receivers.

If you never expect to expand to more speakers to take advantage of Atmos/DTS:X, then the only real advantage would be the better 32 bit DACs.

[QUOTE=ben2e;37257082 I only wish it were physically smaller. Everything seems to be shrinking these days except for receivers.[/QUOTE]

I'd say that accomodating the number of amplifiers and the real estate needed on the back for all the connectors is forcing the larger sizes. My many-year-old Yamaha RX-Z11, with 11 amps is the same size, though heavier because of a reduction in the weight of power supply transformers.

JVC RS600 Chad-callibrated, 120" 1.3g in Batcave HT, Denon X8500 Polk LSiM703 fronts,
RTi-12 rears, LSiM 706 center, Monitor 40 Heights, Monitor 60 FW, FXiA4 Bi-pole sides,
LSiC top front, Infinity 6" VOG. 4X 12" subs w/mini DSP on sub 1 and nearfield 18" from sub 2.

Which model are you talking about? I thought this was standard on the 95/97/99 without the need to upgrade?

Here's one of the main feature bullets on the Pioneer website for the SC-95:

Full Bandwidth HDMI (4K UltraHD 60P/4:4:4) with HDCP 2.2

Doesn't this mean 18.2 Ghz HDMI 2.0a? Is this only true for pass-thru then?

Stream Smoother is a circuitry for YouTube or any other low quality video streaming.
Pure Cinema is a circuitry which automatically detects film-based sources, originally encoded at 24 fps.

That's the part that confuses me too. Pioneer engineers told me that it's a 18 G HDMI 2.0 and can pass through HDR. Yet when I asked them how about 2.0a EDID, I have yet to receive any reply from them (it's been 3 weeks now)

Well, if it doesn't have HDMI 2.0a that makes the decision much easier - it will be the Yamaha 3050.
