JD is the man when it comes to Denon in particular, so you have the answer. I'll chime in only to say, I am using a 7 channel amp + 2 channel amp and powering two of atmos speakers through the Denon. Works perfectly.

You can't switch them completely "off" really, meaning disconnecting them from the internal power supply.
By using a Kill-A-Watt power consumption meter with the X7200, it was easy to verify that the internal amps are NOT shut off when the AVR is switched to preamp mode. With the AVR idling (i.e. no audio playing), the power consumption doesn't change at all when preamp mode is switched on and off. In preamp mode relays apparently disconnect the input signals from the amps, as noted by jdsmoothie and gurkey. I went through a similar test, with the same result, when Denon's AVR-4311ci came out years ago.

Correct. How Pre-Amp mode works, hasn't changed going from the 4311CI --> 4520CI --> X7200WA.

Very informative thread, I'm currently debating between the 6200, 7200 or the new 6300. the 6300 is on close out at best buy, not sure if they carry the 7200. i want to be future proof so 4k and HDR is something i need since i'll eventually get a 4K projector once the prices come down a bit.

I used to be able to control my X6200 from a web page using the ip address. Now all it shows is the web page background. Did they disable this functionality?

Learn all about me in my profile and take it all very seriously.

Web Control was only disabled on the 2015 - 2017 "H" series models.

I used the Web Control for the first time last week with no issue on my x6200.

Politics is like a corral, no matter where you are you'll always be shoveling it.

Question for other 6200 owners. When source material (for example a Blu Ray) has DTS 5.1 audio does the display show Multi-channel or DTS? When I first set up the 6200, I believe it would display DTS but now the same Blu Ray disc shows Multi-channel on the AVR display. Maybe that changed with past firmware updates but I just wasn't sure and wanted to see what others may know.

Thanks.

Mine still shows DTS, maybe you have to press the sound mode button while playing a source and scroll through until you get DTS surround. Don't know if this will help but I remember having to do it once in awhile, especially when setting up a new player.

This is a comparison thread of two models. X6200W specific questions are better posted in the 2015 Denon AVR Owner's thread linked below.
