Here are some of the Arcam clones.
It will give you some ideas on what will be on the new Arcams.

Seems like there is no Dante audio protocol support on the Arcam’s.

Possibly no Logic16 up mixer as well..

Warning: My posts might be biased even if in good faith, I work for Dirac Research :-)

Hey guys!

Thinking of upgrading my Marantz SR7011 to an Arcam AVR550 or the AVR390, now that the price dropped. I really want to try out Dirac, as I think it would make a pretty good improvement for my room.
I got to check it out at Emofest a number of years ago, and it was pretty incredible...

Right now, I am running Klipsch RP-6000f, RP-6000C, RP-504s, and RP-502s, plus a pair of some old Orb Audio speakers that I had laying around for rear heights for Atmos.
I am doing all 4k, and have the Sony X800m2, going to an LG OLED55e6p.
My room is sorta smallish, but mostly dedicated to HT. Would the 390 give me what I want, or should I just splurge on the 550? Would it be a worth-while upgrade from my SR7011?

I don't really think I need any of the "latest" features the new lineup will give me, as I am sticking with my TV for a while.

AVR550 is discontinued unless the dealer or Arcam/Harman has stock.

The AVR390 will be carried over but not time line on its phase out but I'm sure that day is coming quickly.

The AVR390 has been cut to $1495 or $1595 msrp. Will need clarification.

Main difference is amp and power supply.

DACs, DiRac, codecs and HDMI interface are the same IIRC.

About 18 months ago I went from a Marantz 7010 to an Arcam AVR 850. I did this because the Marantz sometimes sounded harsh (perhaps being driven hard) and also because I have a 7.2.4 system (extra amps supplied by an Arcam P7) in a difficult room due to sloping ceilings and the Marantz wasn't totally satisfying in terms of giving convincing immersive sound.

The Arcam is much more pleasing on the ear and the bubble of sound I was looking for is now a reality.

Downsides are the cost and also the loss of some useful functions that the Marantz had. I would not contemplate going back because I am now satisfied whereas with the Marantz I always wanted more.

LG 77C8 (UK) - Arcam AVR 850 - Arcam FMJ P7 - 7.2.4 Atmos setup.

Good to hear that. I went from a Yamaha A2070 to Arcam 550. Still playing with Dirac to get what I want

HI, did you compare anthem 1120 vs arcam 850?
i test lexicon rv9 and 1120 in my room, 1120 is better in sub, surround. Rv9 is better in midbass and mid. But overall 1120 is better for movies. RV9 for music.
850 vs rv9 is the same?
Tks.

Trying to update the firmware in my 550.

It’s been on the DSP updating, please wait... for over an hour.

Any suggestions?

Tried to pop out and pop in a new usb drive, pre other online comments, still stuck.

Coming from an NAD this firmware update is archaic... it shouldn’t be so hard!!!

What version are you updating from and to wish version are you updating to? I'd make sure the USB drive in formated to FAT32 as this is usually an issue with projectors etc.

I'm currently at
Host Version 4.31
IAP 1.07
DSP 0.85/3.90.35.00
OSD 0.20
NET 2.6.19.60208-16

Trying to go to
Host Version 7.14
IAP 1.07
DSP 4.35/3.90.50.00
OSD 0.20
NET 2.6.19.60208-16

Appears to be skipping over 1 version. I just formatted the USB to FAT32 prior to hooking it up.

Should I pop out USB, check format and pop back in? Feel like I have a giant brick right now as receiver does nothing and has been stuck like this for ~2 hours now.

Appreciate any help! Wanted to run Dirac but figured I should update firmware 1st so I didn't have to re-run Dirac.

In the firmware files there is there 2 files, the network file and the system file.

Do I put both into the USB or just one?

Looks like the Network one is same as current network. I've currently got both file, and nothing else, on the USB.

After 6+ hours of being hung up and trying multiple USB drives I bite the bullet and powered down and back up. All seems to be fine.

Before I try this again is there anything 'tricks' to doing this correctly? USB size/ format? Reading some other threads seems like less than 4GB and FAT32 is way to go. I tried this late in the game but perhaps too late.

Firmware updated!!!

Seems having the right size and format of USB is key.

I always do a complete format (not a quick one) and reset to default (mostly FAT32) when I do firmware upgrade of any kind.

Does anybody have any news regarding Dirac Live Bass Management for the current lineup of pre/pro?

Okay, I have now owned the 660, the 750, the 850 and on every unit, when playing a digital source, the song or the movie doesn't actually start playing until about 1/2 a second or so into the track. Is anyone else experiencing this? What's the solution? When I owned the 660, I just lived with it and waited for the 750. When I got the 750 and it still happened, Arcam said turn the CD Direct setting either on or off, I can't remember sitting here typing this at work on lunch. Didn't help. So I waited for the 850. Then I got the 850 and tried to fix it again, no luck. I don't know how many times I sat down and really tried to address this on the 750 and the 850, six or seven times over the years I'd say. I've tried it on the Audioquest HDMI cinnamon and carbon cables. It also happened on coax and on SPDIF but admittedly with the same cables I've always had. Has it already been discussed on this thread but I didn't see it? Thanks ahead of time for the input, very curious to see what you have to say.

What is your source? I don't have that issue from either that Nvidia shield, my oppo205 (hdmi or spdif) or my cd player before I set up the Oppo (using spdif)

Cd direct allows only pcm sources to avoid handshake that can cause a break if a disc sends a literal"nothing* between tracks. Only works for actual pcm tracks and in understand it bypasses a soft start t up the amp to avoid digital pops when switching audio modes which can damage speakers (but not needed from cd)
Your mention of song or movie suggests you're not playing pcm sources. In which case, when playing cd your device needs to broadcast a quiet "not quite nothing" noise even when muted. Many devices do this or have options E.g. Kodi has such an option. Oppo just behaves itself

Is there any dedicated thread for the new Arcam AVR lineup that was announced at Cedia in September 2019 (i.e. AVR10/20/30, AV40, and PA240/270/410)? If not, should one be opened, or will the discussions for those models continue in this thread too?

I'm currently at 4.41.

My subwoofer died. After getting the new one, I figured I should update the firmware to the latest and re-run dirac. Any known issues with the current firmware? 4.41 was pretty stable for me.

I am on 7.14 (latest as far as I am aware) and the only issue I know about is that the crossover value for the upper (Atmos) speakers reverts to 50Hz whenever the unit is completely powered off. The crossover for the floor level speakers is however retained.
If the unit is put into standby, rather than totally powered off, then both crossovers are retained as you have set them.
Arcam have promised a fix but it is a long time coming.

My sources are 1) the Panasonic UB-9000 connected with a Audioquest Coffee 1M cable and an old MonsterCable Coax cable, and number 2) the Sony UBP-X800 connected with with an Audioquest Carbon 1M cable. I tried it again last night. I got the coax to work without any problems once, but then couldn't get it to work right after that. Thanks ahead for any suggestions you have.

Has anyone who has played any of the IMAX stuff through these receivers noticed that the sound quality is totally screwed ?
It is very noticeable with voices which sound very boomy and less clear than normal because of way too much bass. The pictures can look very punchy although I'm not sure how accurately they would measure but the IMAX people have really messed up the sound quality and that's a big shame.

I only tested that the DTS track was recognized as IMAX Enhanced. Which title have you tested in particular?
