I was at BB yesterday and SC-95 was at 1099+tax and 2050 was 1299+tax. I believe the deal ends today (if not yesterday).

If you don't mind me asking where did you find the SC-95? Was it at Gibbys in St.Catherines? (only place I can find) I am from South Western Ontario and can't find any Elite brands in the vaccinate. Very frustrating, I have always wanted an Elite (almost bought one in 2011) but went with the Futureshop version of the VSX-53 the VSX-1326-k. Its been fabulous to this date but looking to get into the ATMOS/DTS-X game. Went to Audio 2001 and the sales rep was recommending the Yamaha RX-A2050, which seems to be my other option instead of the Elite SC-95. Looks like a solid build in its own right.

I used to own a Yamaha years ago before my upgrade in 2011, and was pleased with it, however always like the look of the Pioneer Elite Series and there integration with Apple devices and Apps. (Air Play etc) not to mention there Class-D Amps. One major concern is the recent fall off in customer care and obviously there warranty 2 years I believe as a pose to 4 years from Yamaha. Since they (Pioneer) have sold to Onkyo who knows what happens with there products when it comes to a part replacement issue. I don't know where to go really.

I probably want to start out with a 5.1.2 setup, which could lead to a 5.1.4 setup, but I am not sure if these models can do the latter. I Don't think I have the room size for a 7.1.2, but that's another option.

I think its down to the Yamaha RX-A2050 or the Pioneer Elite SC-95, only probably is locating the Elite North of the Border.

So if you can let me know that would be awesome,
Thanks

I got my SC95 at Lipton's AV Unlimited in Newmarket Ontario, although Gibby's does also carry the SC95 at a higher price.

It's common for the store price at magnolia/Bb to be lower than the online price. Call your local store.

Thanks guys. Ordered one for local pickup. I was going to wait on the new Onkyos, but this is too much to pass on. My only hope for this receiver is to get the DTS:X treatment that Yamaha did, instead of it being crippled and compromised like Denon receivers.

Can you go into more detail about DTS:X Being Crippled on Denons. I just got a X4200 and was looking at the SC-95 as well. I still have time to exchange depending on your info.

I think by crippled on DM means that you cannot cross pollinate upmixers, cannot use Neural X on native Dolby formats and Dobly Surround cannot be used on native DTS signals.

Ah, ok i read about that. They had the fuction, then an update removed it. I guess maybe because DTS:X update was coming soon.

I was eyeing the SC-95 for a while, but the Denon x4200w was on sale and i picked it up 2 weeks ago. But if i can get the SC-95 around the same as the Denon, then I rather have the Elite. Just to double check, i can do 5.2.4 atmos natively without another amp vs the x4200w correct?

Afaik, sc95 has 9 internal amps so 5.1.4 would not require an external amp. X4200 only has 7 internal amps.

Thanks, I just picked up a SC-95. Had to drive 40mins to nearest BBY to pick one up and used a 10% off coupon to match the price of my 2 week old X4200 from Fry's. Now the testing begins.

I want to order a SC-95 or SC-97. The BB 10% off coupons are no longer available at USPS. How did you get 10% off?
Thanks

Best buy had send me a 10% code via email with the subjet "GOOD NEWS! You've been rewarded with a 10% OFF COUPON" and inside was link and a title "EXCLUSIVE Treat your Home 10% off a single item". Not sure what trigger them to send it to me. I been a Best Buy rewards member for years and i'm part of their Elite Plus Rewards Tier (Highest).

I did have a USPS Movers Coupon sent to me via Email a few months ago as well. I moved and requested a change of address online, and signed up for the Movers Coupons during the signup process. I believe it included Best Buy and a bunch of other coupons and offers. Most of them was emailed to me from USPS later that day, and then I received a bunch of paper coupons in the mail with the same offers. I didn't end up using it at the time and let it expire a few weeks ago, however Best Buy themselves sent new a 10% Coupon days after it expired, so maybe they kept renewing it so I'll end up using it? Not sure if it was related to the movers coupons, but it did say "treat your home".

Hope this helps you a little to find a 10% off BBY Coupon.

These are the two I was looking at. Please let us know what you think of them in terms of sound quality. I went to BB to listen but I have no idea how each is set up. Currently have the vsx-90 and have a few days left to return it.

Movers coupons wont work in store on Magnolia items cause they are price protected. I tried that a week back on the vsx-90 and it was no go after several attempts.

I had a blue shirt ring me up as the magnolia rep was MIA when I got to BBY 30min before closing on a Sunday. He looked over my coupon and gave me the the standard disclaimer of it might not work. But he gave the fine print a once over and it didn't specifically have any restriction on av receivers or pioneer in general. So he went ahead and scanned my coupon and it went through without an issue.

My 10% coupon might not have been a movers coupon, but it did emphasize Home Entertainment. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

FWIW, I have used the 10% mover's coupons on Magnolia items before. However it's a moot point since you can no longer get them. Someone in another thread mentioned that if you sign up for a BB cc that they will offer 10%. Is that true?
Unrelated question: Has anyone here heard a "real world" comparison between the Pioneer Elite SC-95 and the SC-97? I want to buy one of them today. The specs are nearly identical, and I get that the 97 has a more robust build quality. Can you actually hear the $300 difference in price?

You can buy em off Ebay but they wont work. I dont know how long ago you used them in store but most of that stuff is price protected. If BB sends you a 10% for home theater you can probably use it like the poster above.

If you use the BB card you get 10% back in rewards.

When I bought my Motion 40 and SB-2000 on Tuesday, I was told that you only get 10% in rewards if you're new card holder and you pay off your balance in 30 days. The other option was to get 24 months at 0% interest.

Wink SC-95 vs AVR-X4200W

Here is an update to my SC-95 vs X4200W

I had chosen the SC-95 over the x4200W for the following reasons. These reasons might or not matter to you.

Pros for the SC-95
1. The SC-95 looks and feels more Premium vs the X4200W
2. 9.2 vs 7.2, i will be able to do 5.2.4 without external amp.
3. 0 network issues with SC-95 so far with current FW, the X4200W Network seem unstable when I was setting it up, and seem iffy after a FW update.
4. Class D AMP

Neg for the SC-95
1. MCACC Pro not good as Audyssey XT32? This was a hard one since I had 2 Audyssey based systems before this but I cant really tell if I was missing or gaining anything.
2. GUI is a bit dated, but the IControlAV5 app cancels this issue out.
3. Less HDCP 2.2 ports, 3 vs 8 on the Denon. I can only only forsee a 4k Bluray, 4K cable box, and maybe a 3rd system needing 2.2 maybe.
4. No DTS:X update yet, but low priority on my list.

I'm coming from an aging and dying Onkyo TX-SR705 to the X4200W and then to the SC-95. From the SR705 to the X4200W was a big jump, but from the X4200W to SC-95 was minimum and a very parallel switch. I have a pair of Polk RTi4 bookshelves, matching center, PW505 sub, energy take 5 classic surrounds with 1 pair of pioneer Atmos Enable add on speakers, so my setup might not fully detail the audio differences between the 2 newer AVRs. I will be planning another pair of Atmos Speakers or go ceiling mounted in the future, so having the extra 2 ch is a big plus. It will also let me minimized the hardware I need for that.

And one last factor which is not based on the AVRs themselves but the retailers. The Denon is from Fry's and the SC-95 is from Best Buy. I prefer Best Buy because I have their Rewards Program, 30-45 days of no hassle returns, Reward points earned, and they let me used a 10% coupon to make the SC-95 the same price I paid for the X4200W. Fry's also has a 30 day return, but I will not get any extra on top of that. In the end Best Buy added to the deciding factor, but I believe I would had chosen the same regardless of the retailer and being priced the about the same.

Hope that helps.

Hey Goofy we should've just traded I ended up returning my SC-95 for the X4200W.

My Pro's for the SC-95 pretty much mirror your thoughts and I also think listening to music(Hip Hop) was better as well. My con's are every time you turn on the TV/receiver with Arc the SC-95 would default to TV setting and then I would have to switch it back to CBL/Sat. I called Pioneer about this on Friday and sat on hold for 2hrs and 15mins they told me all there receivers do that. I do feel the X4200W sounds a little better for watching TV. I haven't watched any Blu-Ray movies with either receiver to comment on that.

My con with the X4200W is I had to turn the volume up on the back of my sub to 1 o'clock where as the SC-95 was set at 9 o'clock.

Anyone know if the SC-95 is still on sale at Best Buy? Looking to grab one at that price for sure.

Looks like the sale ended on Tuesday....

If it's not a BIG screen, it's not a theater...
