Onkyo PR-RZ5100 Owner's Thread

Any predictions on what we might see in the new Onkyo PR-RZ5100 just announced? It seems it will still be a 11.2 channel preamp, so it will most likely not allow for a front high and wides, Atmos 9.2.4 or 11.2.4 setup. The new AccuReflex Cal system will be dumped for maybe a surprise........ Dirac Live system? Yeah, I can dream but that would be killer.

Hi gamest i live in Australia and our Onkyo/Integra distributor have confirmed September 2016 for the release of the Onkyo Pr-Rz5100.
I asked about pricing and was told it would retail for $200-300 more than the Pr-Sc5530 retail which is $4700.00 aud. This would depend on the exhange rate.

Yeah, I figured the price would go up again. I am interested in seeing something new on the RZ5100, I hope. DTS:X would be a nice upgrade from my DHC 80.6 same as Pr-Sc5530, but for that price 5K$ I am hoping for something really new that convinces me it is worth the upgrade.

I wonder if we will ever see a 11.2 or higher DIRAC Live preamp under 5K$, that I would jump on

Man, I sure hope so. I prefer the look of the Integra over the new Onkyo chassis. Oh, and the added warranty.

Unfortunately this is all the information they would give me over the phone. They seem to be playing their cards close to their chest.
As for DtsX they were not confident it would be on board possible firmware update. As for Integra their was no news other than this is for custom installers.

I think it will be November?

And for those that did not here about it at the CEDIA the Integra version will be DRC-R1. There is info on line about it now. It looks very much like the DHC 80.6 but will have DTS:X on-board. I wish they had done something really new for this model to make it worth it for me. If Integra dose not offer some sort of DHC 80.6 upgrade to DHC-R1 program(I can wish) I think I will be skipping this model.

Any user input on soundquality in general?

I must comment the fact that Onkyo only provides 1 trigger out on this AV controller.

Seems totally absurd.

Whats its suppose to control if not an amp and 1 or two subs....

There is user review on Amazon and he does mention sound quality. As for the trigger there are ways to split it. But I agree.

Quite often triggers can (and will be) daisy chained, thus one trigger output could control many amps etc.
Emotiva, at least in the past, offered 12V trigger distribution devices as separate units, which then could be daisy chained as needed.

Nothing really, just Integra vs Onkyo, same company.
I think both have all the same capability's but the Integra does come with a longer warranty(as it is usually sold for custom installers), it is also build with higher quality parts and bench tested harder. Hence, costs more.

Well .. 2017 units have yet to be released, but the 2016 units seem to be fairing well.

Yeah, my DHC 80.6 is still working fine and stable. But I guess that means nothing really at this point in time, HDMI handshaking with the 80.6 is fast and has never been a problem compared to other preamps I have had including the 80.1(Bad HDMI board). I have not heard of any mass amount of issues with the newer models yet, hopefully it stays that way.

Did you notice that both the new Integra and Onkyo Pre/Pro's seem to have lost their analog M/C inputs too?

Please don't post why..........I know about analog sunset!!.....

Too bad they didn't re invest the savings into a better Room EQ tool!!

Good to see less of the stupid, needless, totally redundant on board video processing too...........
Of course that's just IMHO.

show me your epuipment and after you can talk,I am shur you not have onkyo for long time .from my receptor 2014 ,mutch water pass ,whit accu reflex 2016 ,is very good for me this calibration is the best,I try tx-rz3100 and pr-r5100 and the accueq reflex ,is less complicated and is easy .

for audyssey is many point many people ha ve problem to fix good, for me accueq reflex is better.

onkyo have more power and now is very good and big amilioration to hifi ,that wy for me onkyo is the best.

Question Onkyo RZ-5100 Questions

I've had an RZ5100 since they came out, and sometimes want to use DRC to control volume on terribly mastered TV shows. All of my previous flagship Onkyo receivers had this feature. Onkyo support wasn't of any help either. Anyone have a clue as to why DRC is missing? Is there a comparable feature I'm not understanding?

Second question, regarding AccuEQ, the manual states:
Quote:
AccuEQ Room Calibration:
Enable or disable the equalizer function that corrects for distortion caused by the acoustic environment of the room. If this is to be enabled, then normally you should select "On (All Ch)", and to disable just the front speakers you should select "On (ex. L/R)". The setting can be separately set to each input selector.
Why would you ever want to exclude L/R from the AccuEQ calibration? Within the setup it states to disable if the speakers are not the SAME, but rarely are the L/R speakers identical to the center and surrounds. I would think I would still want these EQ'ed! Never had this setting with Audyssey.

Last question -- what is the "EQ for Standing Wave" setting used for? Manual is pretty vague. Wouldn't this be known to AccuEQ? I guess I don't get why it's asking me for a freq to cut.
Quote:
EQ for Standing Wave :
Select whether to enable or disable the standing wave control calibrated in "2. Speaker" - "EQ for Standing Wave" in the Setup menu.
Thanks!
