Look what showed up from JD yesterday! Whoop!

Guys, seriously, it couldn't have been a more positive experience buying from JD. You won't be disappointed!

The x3300 will go on sale eventually under $500 as the x3200 did a few months after it debuted. I'm lucky to have a Fry's 5 minutes away.

If I were to get the x4200 I'd get it at Crutchfield to save $70 in sales tax. First world problems I guess.
And, if you go through Mr. Rebates you'd get 3% cash back in addition to saving on taxes.

Of course they're removable. They're removable on all Denon receivers. The Spotify and DTS:X stickers are removable too.

Aside from the "flagship" models, D+M replaces all lower level models every year. The X3400W won't be released until July 2017.

I'm new to Denon -- with the X3300 -- and while I think I now have a pretty good idea of how to use the sound modes, I noticed something that seems odd. When I set the mode to Auto on a 5.1 cable broadcast channel, the Info screen shows the mode as Dolby Digital + Dolby Surround.

My system is 5.1 only. Why would an upmix mode be selected?

JD, or anyone else here - a question. I am thinking of getting the Bose 151 SE environmental speakers for my back patio. Here are the specs - will the Surround Back L and R outputs be too much for these speakers?

Nothing is truly too much unless you overdrive them.

Fair point. So then the question is can the 3300W overdrive them?

Any amp can overdrive speakers if you raise the volume level too high, so simply keep it down. The "Volume Limit" setting for Zone 2 is set to 70/-10db from the factory which should be sufficient to prevent any overdriving possibility.

We were told Denon isn't even releasing them for 2 weeks so it's doubtful that a 9/15 delivery is realistic. AVS expects to ship out our current pre-orders by the end of the month.

Does it matter? I would guess it's assembled in Vietnam from components sourced from all over Asia and I'm betting the Vietnamese can tighten a screw just as well as the Chinese.

I have heard two relevant theories:

1) Hangzhou labor rates are becoming less favorable, and

2) Vietnamese QC might be better.

Only time will tell if #2 is true. If "tightening screws" is the only contributing factor, why are Denon's flagship models built in Japan instead of with the others?

Perhaps the perception that being built in Japan is better thus justifying the premium upcharge? I've noticed the use of Made in Japan being a selling point for dealers. I'd be interested to see failure rates of the units built in Japan vs. other places, but even then is the failure due to assembly or the use of inferior components?

I don't know the failure rate but I bought my Onkyo 805 made in Japan in 2013 used since it came out in 07 from the previous owner and it's still running strong.

Sure, but if you go through the 805 thread you'll find others who had the HDMI board failure just like others made in different regions.

I've been on that thread and yes that's true lots of hdmi handshake issues with Onkyo primarily. I was referring to the complete failure no power issue that I've never had.

Well in that regard, my 706 that I bought in 2005 that was made in Malaysia is still going too after I repaired the HDMI board. Still, doesn't prove anything one way or the other.

You're right it doesn't prove anything. If it's going to fail it's going to fail regardless but I rather know something is made in Japan vs China. Everyone knows China is crap. China is not a deal breaker though after all almost everything is manufactured there and it's not like the consumers have much choice these days.

If someone would be so kind to list all the models from 2015-2016 that include:

Latest HDMI spec (fully HDR capable)
XT32
Over 120 watt per channel (5.1).

I would really appreciate it. I was going to get a 5200W but it does not support HDR.

My X2300 was the same. I would be watching a 5.1 broadcast and the mode was Dolby Digital + Dolby Surround. All I did was push the green "Movie" button on the bottom of the remote and you can select Dolby Digital only. Now my receiver just shows "Dolby D" when watching broadcasts.

Yes, but I wonder if the DD + DDS setting is actually trying to upmix to speakers that aren't there, or if that setting is OK because it just ignores the + DDS because it knows there are no extra speakers.

Again, it seems odd that Auto would not simply choose DD for a 5.1 system. We should be able to set Auto, and forget about it.

I am looking at the Denon X4300H and X6300H models.
My living room/AV room speakers are more set up for 10.1 Auro-3D versus 7.1.4 ATMOS, meaning that I have a center rear speaker (actually just the speaker wire hanging down from the ceiling).
I could use the second subwoofer input on the X4300H to hook up a single-channel amplifier (page 63 of the manual).
Questions:
Which amplifiers in the 100-150W range are recommended?
Wouldn't it be much cheaper than the X6300H at $2200 MSRP?

Thanks for any feedback.

Exactly. Look at Martin Logan. They are a US company that always manufactured many speakers in Canada. Now they have facilities in other countries including China. Note that ML US employees spend three months or more in those other countries to monitor quality. I can tell you that their speakers have exceptional fit and finish (not to mention the awesome sound).
