Just tried -20 and -40. Both result in the same issue. Also just thought to check across multiple platforms. The Issue can be created via cable, Netflix, Bluetooth audio and Blue Ray. Also took the time to stop watch it last night for 10 occurrences. The time mute stays active is narrow but not consistent. It occurs anywhere between 20 and 50 seconds but it’s never the same twice....

Thanks for the 45 minute intel. I’ll have to try that this evening when I get home from work

If the "soft reset" doesn't resolve the issue, try doing about 10 microprocessor resets in a row (see post 5). If using Dynamic Volume or Dynamic EQ, try setting them both to OFF.

I would appreciate anyone's input on this - I have the chance to obtain either the Denon AVR-S710W or Denon AVR-S720W at a very good price. I cannot find online much difference between the two - is one year's model preferred to the other, if so why?

For reference, this will be replacing my Denon 2310, and will be used with 55" Samsung js8500, Apple TV 4K, and Sony UBP-X800 blu ray player, plus Energy Take speakers, subwoofer.

Thank you in advance.

I wasn't sure if one model was "built" better. Since I will not be using this for a complex set up, I didn't know if one year was preferred over the other in regards to people liking one year's model over the other, less issues, etc...

From reading the posts, it seems that if priced the same, to go with the newer model (720). Looks like the improvements that would affect my set up most would be:

- Dual band 802.11n Wifi (2.4Ghz, 5Ghz)
- RC Select (allows changing of an HDMI pass through source while the AVR is in Standby mode)

I actually purchased the 710 for $150, and the 720 for $100, but will sell the one I do not decide on keeping once I receive them.

Disconnect all HDMI cables, then see what happens. If it still unmutes itself, it's probably an AVR issue. If it doesn't, there may be a device sending volume control commands on a regular basis via HDMI CEC.

Don't forget to record the serial no. before you send it out. Knowing its build date could help confirm or deny the update that fixes this if this is the same hissing problem found by others.

Do you have cec enabled? Maybe one of your devices is trying to set the volume.

What’s CEC?

Dynamic volume and dynamic EQ are both set to off if that matters...

Ok, so that's a May 2017 build.
JD, wasn't the replacement DSP supposed to be in use as of March 2017?
My 6300 is AMU1517060..., around the same time. I was also wondering what the AMU meant, since there are other 3 letter prefixes on some X series AVRs, but the Denon support person wouldn't explain it. Anyone know?

I'm sure this has been asked before but search has failed me. I have a 4300H - how does one get Alexa and Spotify to work? I have connected Spotify to the Alexa app, but when I say "Alexa, play <whatever> on Spotify on Theater (what my Denon 4300H is named) she says something like "I'm sorry, I can't play Spotify Music on that device". She has no problems playing Amazon Music on my receiver though.

ok, did a different search and found this post...I have the same exact problem, firmware is up to date. Is anyone actually able to use their echo to play spotify on their denon receiver?

I too had the dreaded hiss issue; goes away when you turn off room correction. Apparently the issue is documented and well known in the US. Here in Australia it's another story. Two returns to different repair workshops, both found nothing wrong. Finally kicked up some stink and they replaced the HDMI board and something else.

All fixed and working brilliantly since then (touch wood he says).

Just curious if this issue was addressed by replacing both the HDMI board and if the something else was a DSP board. Still can't tell which 6300 systems are at risk. Do you know, from your serial no., if your's was built before or after March 2017?

X4300H Problem?

Using Home Theater PC to drive Audio.

When I play a movie in Atmos or DTS X and then play another source type like a game or youtube audio receiver does not auto find the next source it just stays displaying Atmos or DTS X or Neural X or Dolby Surround. It can be fixed by manually switching to the type of source material by pressing movie button or equivalent.

My old receiver did not have a problem switching between source material. I would hear the "click" and then sound would be heard.

Can't speak for Australia, but the units mfr'd after May 2017 in the USA should have the replacement HDMI board that resolves the hiss issue that was noted on some units mfr'd prior to that date.

If you want it to AUTO switch, you must select the AUTO surround mode (ie. press the PURE button on the remote and select AUTO).

Denon X3300W with Echo Dot Bluetooth Issues

I have a Denon X3300W and an Echo Dot. I have to re-pair the devices every time I try to listen to music through the echo dot on my Denon receiver. Anyone else having similar issues? I don't want to have to connect it with a cable as that will mean I always have to have the receiver on and on the right input to use the dot for simple things like weather forecast.

Thanks!
Brian

Well Mike I think you nailed it.... I was able to narrow it down that I can only get the mute issue to happen when the HDMI cable from the Blu Ray player is plugged into the receiver. Which is both a sigh of relief and extremely frustrated. Glad to hear the AVR isn’t malfunctioning but don’t really want to have to plug and unplug the Blu Ray based on usage :/

Most BD-Players that have HDMI-CEC will have the option to turn it off. It may be named Anynet+ (Samsung), or something similar-ish in the settings menu. Just go through all of them and look for something that describes control over HDMI.

Good point. As well intended as CEC is, and useful for simple installations, it's mainly obsoleted by smart remotes that can group commands, and more the cause of unexpected results.

This is what I've found. As long as I can run ARC without having to do CEC, I do that. Sometimes they are co-dependent (as was the case with my PIO AVR and my LG TV).
