I don't understand the problem with the HD-DVD player. It should just output in the best mode/resolution, supported by your screen, it is capable of. It does not even have to upscale to 4K. But, I'm sure you are right, trying to get an updated set of firmware for that is likely to be lost cause![/QUOTE]

Hey thanks so much , i appreciate it.

Actually the Xbox has no problem displaying 4k in either mode it just won't do HDR in both modes.
The HD DVD Player i think might be a lost cause to get it to upscale to 4k.

You are right though it still gives a crisp image, before i bought the player i did some research and it apparently had a very decent chip in it for it's time that handled the video.

It certainly stands the test of time. I love the solid backlit remote with metal buttons it comes with.
I guess in the time of iphones now it is rather pointless a company spending much on a remote though.

The Xbox One Media remote is a little beauty though , it lights up when you touch the remote and goes out when you put it down.

So, given my Samsung UHD Blu-ray appears to have no problem doing HDR in Mode 2 and Pio confirms the Yamaha can do 10-bit in that mode, it seems either there is an Xbox bug, just more work needed on the Xbox HDR implementation or, possibly, there is some long term architectural reason why it can only do HDR in 4:4:4. Let's hope it's one of the first 2 and it gets fixed quickly!

Honestly, there is a reason, other than just bandwidth, why even UHD Blu-ray uses 4:2:0. The visible difference is mightly small, especially at 4K, unless you have a 100" screen or sit with your face against it. So 10/12-bit 4:2:0 is pretty much all most of us need and that should be possible in Mode 2.

Hmm , i guess it's not impossible Xbox may fix it with firmware. The HDMI pass through on the new Xbox only accepts 1080p as well though Microsoft said they will continue to monitor the adaption of 4k. This seems odd they didn't just include a HDMI 2.0 pass through . Just to keep the cost down a bit i guess.

In any case once you use the Xbox with HDR for gaming it makes all other games look rather flat and lifeless by comparison.

In any case i can work around it , i was just trying to limit too many button presses.

I haven't mucked around with themes as yet on the Yamaha as you can set up 12 different themes for various activities.
It has 4 quick presets on the remote as well.

I am very happy with the amp overall and none of this would be an issue if Yamaha allowed me to mix and match mode 2 and mode 1 (Please yamaha fix it with a firmware update ) , i guess you just can't have everything the way you want it

The mode switch is obviously a pretty low-level thing on the Yamaha, as it seems to need a reboot afterwards. Probably not possible to make that happen with a Scene change.

These are subjective calls very much based on whether you prefer YPAO (Yamaha) or Audyssey (Denon). Both brands have their pros. At this level you really can't go wrong either way. Best to choose the model that best meets your feature/input/output requirements.

Better .. the A3060 likely more comparable to the X6300H.

It's in the advanced setup menu. Press and hold the Straight button while you press the power button. Cycle through the various settings using the program button. Select an option using the straight button.

And let's not forget that the A3060 is actually a slight upgrade over the A3050.

Plus, should expect firmware updates for a year longer.

And looks like a significant price difference too.

Yeah. I just compared the specs of the Denon AVR-K7200WA with those of the Yamaha RX-A3060BL and didn't see a dime's worth of difference. In fact, the Yamaha is bigger and heavier and has as much power as the Denon but the Denon costs $1,000 more. Maybe the Denon has some arcane features the Yamaha lacks but I don't know what they might be.

Multi-Channel Analogue inputs were removed on Yamaha AVR's after the RX-A*040 series (2014)

..but I don't think I'd pay an extra $1k to get them,
almost everything has gone to HDMI now.

Which PSB spkrs on 2060 to get atmos 5-1-4

Hi y all, greetings from Norway!

What PSB speakers do I need to get the "real thing" Atmos 5.1.4

Well I did it ... Bought a nice rx-a2060
My old 2030 needed badly an upgrade, with roku 4, samsung UDH 4 k tv and soon samsung UHD bluray, there was no way than a new 2060 :-)

So my setup at present;
Front PsB Imagine B
Centre PSB Imagine Mini center

Rear PSB Imagine mini
Rear surr PSB Image B4

Subs: 2 - two - SVS Pc 2000

I am VERY happy with this, even the neighbors were dancing along last night when playin ID4 - Resurgence

Sorry, I havent any dedicated room, so them ceiling spkrs will be mounted side by side with my crystal chandeliers.....

Okay, I'm gonna say forgive me from the get go. I just had emergency oral surgery this morning but I had to make sure my 3060 that showed up yesterday isn't DOA for CP. Hooked up everything and I get pic but only sound out of center channel.
Do I have to have this thing hooked up to the internet for setup? What little paperwork that comes with this beauty is pathetic. Can someone help me get started? Just p[oint me in the right direction. Thanks, Mark

I would start with downloading the manual (under the support tab)

http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio...ge/rx-a3060_u/

I always do this before I even make a purchase,
1) so I know what I'm actually buying
2) so I know what the capabilities are
3) so I don't flood the forum with dumb questions

Thanks to all , i did some investigations since i posted last and the Xbox One S in order to use 10 bit 4k HDR (It will still do non HDR 4k upscale on Xbox one otherwise) requires extended HDMI mode at least at the moment .(this may change with a future update).
I decided for the short time i am using my HD DVD Player at any given time it's not that big a deal to switch the mode over anyway.

At the moment there is also only a couple of games that use HDR on the Xbox One being Forza Horizon 3 and the soon to be released Gears of War 4 out of the ones i own or soon will own anyway. I did some comparisons between using the HD DVD player in 1080p 24 compared to 4k running The Matrix movie and it is noticably sharper upscaled to 4k so i prefer to use it in upscaled instead of native 1080p. This movie has quite alot of noise in it anyway so it's probably not the movie to test upscaling on from what i can gather.

I am so impressed with the sound Quality of this 3060 amp though . I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to spend a fortune in upgrade their home cinema amp.

There is just such a beautiful clarity that seems perfectly matched to my Dali speakers.

That's an unknown, since DV doesn't yet exist in any playback devices. In theory if the AVR passes HDR-10 (it does) it should be able to do the other. But Dolby hasn't even released specs, much less certified any devices. The A-series are supposed to be able to pass 12 bit color. Dolby might decide they need to have licensing fees paid before an AVR can touch their precious bits.

Hi,

I am getting a price quote of $1500 for a brand new a3060 from a wholesale distributor. Do you think distributors have that much margin to play with ?
Of course Monday morning I am going to check with Yamaha about distributor authenticity (distributor not listed as dealer under Yamaha page).
Distributor is very big company with good 1000+ employees and 3 locations on west coast of US.
Please do let me know your thoughts.

One reason for this is that Yamaha could deny any warranty claim if not purchased from an authorized dealer.

You may want to consider getting in touch with @jdsmoothie -- a member here who works with an authorized dealer.

I also got a low ball offer from a local different dealer. Although he claimed to be an authorized Yamaha dealer, if I did not also pay for install/setup service from him (condition of the low ball offer), he also would not provide any warranty assistance. Now I think that may well be legitimate, but I chose to work with JD, get a good price and have his support both as a rep of AV Science and here in the AVS Forums.

I have an RX-A3060, and I'm having some problems with the multi-zone outputs. Hopefully someone can help. Zone 1 on HDMI Out#1 and Zone 4 via HDMI Out #2 are working just fine. However, I can't seem to get either Zone 2 or Zone 3 to output anything from the zone pre-outs. My setup is a simple 5.1 speaker layout, and I have the speaker pattern set to "Basic." All of my sources are HDMI. Perhaps the 3060 won't output HDMI sources on the Zone 2/3 stereo pre-outs?

Does anyone have any ideas that might help me troubleshoot?

Now I think that may well be legitimate, but I chose to work with JD, get a good price and have his support both as a rep of AV Science and here in the AVS Forums.

I believe tomorrow if Yamaha confirms are they are indeed a distributor then I guess should be ok

Of course Monday morning I am going to check with Yamaha about distributor authenticity (distributor not listed as dealer under Yamaha page).
Distributor is very big company with good 1000+ employees and 3 locations on west coast of US.
Please do let me know your thoughts.
I share the negative reactions expressed by other posters about this deal. When something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

It is the same with avscience who are not listed as dealer on Yamaha site, and JD procrures it from other dealers and gives to us. It is the same the other person is doing and I also do not understand how even Avscience(JD) is also able to give discounted price ? Do they have such margins????
For me if the piece arrives in manufacturers package I guess it should be ok.
Based on all the reviews from this forum so far indicating Yamaha is rock solid I am going with it. Unless people are talking something not true about Yamaha here.
