3 positions are not required. But it is an option.

Good for creating an even fIeld across a large space (say a couch or split chairs) v/s a single sweet spot.

I have a very large couch, 3 meters long. I'm gonna give it a try.

What do you mean by 3 positions? Nothing in my manuals mentions 3 positions.

I am having a terrible time with my Atmos. I have up firing modules.. they used to sound like the were ceiling speakers with my SC 97... now they sound like speakers mounted on the wall higher than the main speakers, but not truly overhead like before. Maybe I’ll try this 3 position.

Are you just running MCACC 3 different times with the mic in a different spot and seeing what sounds best?

Look closer, it's part of MCACC Pro.

It's not likely to help with your Atmos issue though, unless you had the mic nowhere near where you actually sit.

I have an SCLX 901 , had an SCLX 85 before , I have a 7.1.4 with sub optimal placement , front heights and mid upfiring .
Atmos is unbelievably good. My entertainment area is also not optimal it’s open on two sides . I use all ch adj in MCACC because of the room not being symmetrical and enable Dolby optimizer on the upfiring speakers. The skin on my scalp responds to overhead sound , it’s that good .
The 3 point calibration is for multiple listening areas . Sweet spot remains the same .

I might try again with all channel adjust. My “theater room” is just the entry room in my home. Basically walls front, rear and right side.. open dining room on left side.

Just seems weird, since the 97 sounded amazing overhead right off the bat with a single MCACC run.

I've spent several hours setting up both TV and Receiver after factory reset and it didn't help.

What DID help is the last resort - I've plugged in blank HDMI cable to TV's HDMI 1/MHL and suddenly TV found Pioneer on HDMI 4/ARC channel. Before that I had PS4 on TV's HDMI 1. The only guess I have is that TV actually searched for MHL device on HDMI 1, rather then HDMI 4/ARC channel

Lol.. well.. I went through the process.. the low volume clarity sounds really good. I might try to turn off symmetry.

But my Atmos sounds worse during Kong than it did prior. Ugh. I’ll keep tuning.

If you can get your hands on the Dolby Atmos demo 2014 disk( google is your friend ) you can use some of the demo sounds to check if Atmos is being rendered well . There is a particular one where the sound arcs all over and around you in a hemisphere, that was invaluable. Without that , most movies are front heavy and apart from better directionality and seamless travel of sound , it difficult to say if your upfiring speakers are working well .

I'm confused about the Elite etiquette that I see in older images. Are these the same AVRs and they just lost the Elite status or what? LoL.

I assume you are referring to the Elite logo, it was never used in EU & Asia. And the display is amber in the US while white in EU&Asia .

Read through this thread and (don't think) I saw this mentioned:

I had an SC-95 & just picked up a 901. I have noticed, and confirmed with Pioneer there is a difference with the upmixers (DSU/Neural:X) on the 901.

For reference I'm running a 5.1.4 setup.

With the SC-95, if left in AutoSurround mode, it would invoke the DSU or the DTS upmixer automatically depending on the source disc.

With the SC-LX901(and likely 701/801), the upmixer has to be manually selected every time a disc is played. Which means a manual intervention with every (non-atmos / non-DTS:X) disc in order to utilize height speakers.

This seems like a big miss IMO. And the Pio rep today (after confirming my results via bench tests on the SC-9X series and the current LX-X01's) seemed to agree this isn't an optimum firmware implementation.

So if I'm missing a setting or something, I'm all ears (pun intended).

Personally I'd prefer up-mixing not be the default. Ever.

Only the source given unless I specify different.

Don't convert 5.1 to 7.1, don't send 2 channel to surrounds, etc.

Hi
no need to unplug the unit ! If airplay will not work - for some reason - then just longpress the power button (turn it off and keep it pushed until the blue network lamp blink and it turns on). Then it will say initializing.... in display - and reconnects wifi, bluetooth and so on. My 901 did this often at some point in time - but now its all fine again. If this was apple's airplay or it was Pioneer to blame - no clue - anyway it has stopped !

This didn't work for me. Randomly the AirPlay would stop or not reconnect after it stopped at all. Reinitializing allowed it to reconnect, but it would stop working again. Resetting the entire unit to factory defaults did the trick.

I use Full Adjust btw, it sounds better and adjusts the subs. I keep hearing Audyssey does better with subs, how so?

Pioneer elite SC-LX901 remote control quit working

I bought this unit in February of 2018 and have been very happy with it until the remote just quit working. Changed the batteries and it still wont operate. Remote has not been dropped or damaged and infrared light works fine when pressing the buttons. Has anyone ever experienced this? I’m at a loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The topic has come up in the past because this cycle has lasted so long, but does anybody have any news on when the 701/801/901 line will be replaced? I'm trying to decide whether to buy in now or hold out until that happens. Thanks and cheers.  🌲

Guys, I need your help with SC-LX502 in regards of subwoofer connection.

I've got 2.1 system (pair of Dynavoice Challenger M-65) and Focal Chorus SW700S subwoofer.

Speakers connected using Bi-Wiring, subwoofer connected via LFE channel

Question 1: should I connect through LFE or using Left/Right Line inputs? (since it's 2.1 system, not 5.1)

Question 2: Subwoofer works ONLY when playing Full HD cinema with decent audio track), when I play Spotify/Tv Stream/Youtube receiver doesn't show that sub is connected. Only choice I've found to turn it on always is to use "double bass" function in amp setting.

Am I doing anything wrong?

Thanks!

There's been no official word and hardly a single rumour, so... it's anybody's guess at this point.

Does the 50x have a separate thread?
Not sure what might be different from the 7/8/901.

For sure use the sub out/LFE connection.

What are you fronts set as, large or small?
What crossover frequency?

My guess is large and only thing going to sub is LFE channel from multichannel sources (x.1 signals)

Set to small and reasonable crossover. Then everything below crossover goes to sub (along with the dedicated LFE stuff)

Speakers are set to "Large"
Crossover - 80 Hz

So you are saying only choice is either "double bass" or choose speakers as "Small" and reasonable crossover like 80 Hz?

Yes.

If set to large all frequencies go to the speaker. Crossover is ignored/not used.

The large/small naming is unfortunate as it confuses many.

I have an 801. If it wasn’t sent to me as a warranty unit for my SC-97... I would have went 901. But I have Atmos and hate have a second amp.

Where did you read that?

The 901 should sound better og any differences are noticed. I doubt most would notice a difference in a blind test.

But if you need the extra features or power the 901 offers that would matter.
