Question for AV7703 owners... I am getting into the market for an Epson 5040 "4k" projector that only supports HDR upto 4.2.0 I believe. Is there any configuration in the Marantz that would allow down-sampling of signals from 4.2.2/4.4.4 etc.. to conform to 4.2.0 that the Epson 5040 accepts?

I am upgrading from an older Onkyo pre-amp which I love, but does not support 4k..

Current Setup:
Polk LSI15,LSiC, LsiFX, SVS PB-12 Plus/2, Marantz 7703, Epson 5040, Elite Screens Saker Tab Tension 110" AT Screen, Earthquake Cinenova 5

Selling(PM if interested available as of 12-2016):
Onkyo Pro PR-SC885P and Pair of Polk LSI 15's.

Any downsampling has to be done in the player.

In principle, the player should detect the limitations of the display device and output an appropriate signal.

Upgrade from the 80.2 would appear to be a good one, especially if you want to go immersive with Atmos and/or DTSX. Still a bit unsure regarding sound upgrading with the 7703 but the comments here seem to support it. Take the plunge and let us know!

Appreciate the input, keep it coming....

Just pulled the trigger on a AV7703 from Avscience. J.D. hooked me up with the Black Friday special.

This will be a big upgrade. I'm replacing a 15 year old Denon 3805 that has been an great receiver over the years but it's tough to continue these days with a product that doesn't understand HDMI, much less anything in the last few years.

I've been using the Denon as a partial separate over the last several years with an external two channel amp for the front speakers so this purchase will just be a continuation down that path.

Ditto on the Black Friday special, had my order placed on Monday evening though. Thanksgiving week makes for the delivery to be on Monday. Thank you, J.D.

I'm hoping everything goes well, I got the Top Front and Top Rear speakers in place and amps readied.

So far loving the hell out of the 7703. Im no audiofile or do any critical listening but 7703 is a home run for the money. I have it paired with emo xpr2 driving rti12s and they really sing. Imagine what it would sound like if i actually had quality speakers.

Is the deal still in effect? Do you mind share what you paid for? I'm in the market for a preamp also. I'm looking at AV7702, AV7702mk2, and 7703. Thanks

Yes, the Black Friday pricing is good through today (Cyber Monday). I'm not allowed to discuss pricing in this forum but if you contact J.D. at Avscience.com, he will hook you up and everything is above board with proper warranties. I'll PM you with contact info.

Received a firmware notification for my 7703. Of course I blindly downloaded it. Anyone know what issues this update was meant to address?

+1
There is no info on the Marantz support tab on their website, in fact the 7703 is not yet part of the pull down menu to check on updates!
The message mentioned something about general improvements.

I got my AV7703 in today! So far so good! Running 7.1.4 in my system, and watched Minions since it's in Dolby Atmos.

Did initial set up on my 7703 - easy interface. Unfortunately substandard results with the supplied microphone gave a 'boxy' result, so will be redoing the set up with a pro mike and sound gear.

Audyssey uses an internal microphone calibration curve which matches the response curve of the included microphone. Using some other microphone will be a project.

If you haven't already, please take the time to look through the Audyssey 101/FAQ It'll help you to get a good calibration. There are quite a few subtleties in microphone placement and speaker alignment, for example. The instructions in the 7703's owner's manual are pathetically inadequate.

Thanks for the feedback.

The next set up we try will be with the Audyssey pro kit - a friend is a licensed installer.

The AV7703 is *not* compatible with the traditional Audyssey Pro kit.

All of D+M's 2016 models require a new $20 iOS/Android App in order to get functionality comparable to what the Pro kit does for older models. The App is expected to be available in late December or January.

Thanks - knew that was coming out but didn't know it was mandatory.

Makes the 7702 Mk 2 look like it might have been a better idea....

Beginning with the 2016 Denon and Marantz models, D+M is moving away from the use of the Audyssey Pro Kit and replacing it with the Audyssey Phone iOS/Android app ($20, ETA end of 2016).

I have been using a Denon AVR-4306 forever and a day now. I tried upgrading to a denon pre/pro (dont remeber what model) about 2 years ago and it sounded horrible compared to my old 4306 so it went back.

I have the 4306 setup to send the signal to a rotel 5 channel amp then to B&W 802D based 5.1 system and also have zone 2 going to some Klipsh weatherproof speakers on my back porch. Currently I am using a HTPC and a NAS to supply all audio and video content via HDMI to the 4306. However the 4306 does not alow any digital input to be sent to Zone 2 so the only output I can get outside is FM radio. Does the 7703 allow digital inputs (HDMI source) to be sent to Zone 2/3?

I am ready to upgrade everything to 4K and Atmos but I want to make sure I can actually use Zone 2 with whatever source I choose.

It does, but you have to explicitly select a stereo PCM output to Zone 2. Zone 3 is still analog only.

Yes, the AV7703 can pass PCM 2.0 digital coax and optical audio to both Zones 2 and 3. Additional PCM 2.0 over HDMI can pass to Zone 2 as well.

Zone 3 has been able to pass non-HDMI digital audio on the 7000 series AVRs/AVPs for at least the last 6 years.

I guess I've been conflating HDMI with S/PDIF when thinking about the additional zones. *sigh*

In my system ADSY makes a mess of subwooferdistance.
Verified by REW and I corrected accordingly.

Also sublevel was set way too low.
I gave it + 6 dB and bass now has body without boom or muddiness.

The next set up we try will be with the Audyssey pro kit - a friend is a licensed installer.

All of D+M's 2016 models require a new $20 iOS/Android App in order to get functionality comparable to what the Pro kit does for older models. The App is expected to be available in late December or January.

Makes the 7702 Mk 2 look like it might have been a better idea....
You touched on exactly why I choose to stick with the mk2. The cheap mic D/M ships with AVRs/AVPs are spec'd at ±2dB accuracy to the internal curve while the Pro-kit mics are individually calibrated and spec'd at ±0.5dB.

I am holding out hope that the AV8802 successor ships with a higher quality mic or is compatible with individually calibrated mics. The app to replace Pro is great but greater mic accuracy is desirable to many.

Sometime in Q1 2017 (after the app is released) @SteveH and I are planning a SoCal GTG where we can compare the 7702mk2, 7703, and 8802.

Verified by REW and I corrected accordingly.

Also sublevel was set way too low.
I gave it + 6 dB and bass now has body without boom or muddiness.
The Sub distance is generally always going to be longer than the actual distance as it is a "delay" setting which takes into account the filters used in the sub. This distance should generally not be changed. Most find the sub level to be weaker than desired after running Audyssey, which is a simple adjustment made in the Manual Setup - Speakers - Test Tones - Subwoofer setting.
