How will they let us know when the firmware is fixed? without a connection, can't even set to auto update...

I don't really know. I'm not affected as I connect via wire. I'll be sure to post here when there's an update available. I just checked and there's nothing new now.

Hi,
New User to the site, I have been looking at this Pre as a possible purchase

My main speakers are 3 way Active with Scanspeak 32W4878T00 Bass drivers

These currently provide all the Bass I need and then some.
Looking through the manual for the 7703, I see you can set the LFE to none or the FL/R speakers to Large for Full range Stereo

1. Im a bit unsure if All the Surround Modes will still send the Bass and LFE signals to the Front speakers if you have no LFE/Subwoofer channels connected

2. Can you send the LFE to Front AND Subwoofer channels combined?

Thanks in Advance

Yes and Yes.
When you run the initial set-up and tell the wizard you don't have any subs, it will configure it all correctly.

1. When there is no sub configured (ie. Subwoofer = None), then the Front L/R speakers automatically default to LARGE and the LFE as well as the lower frequencies of other speakers set to SMALL are passed to the Front L/R speakers.
2. When there is a sub configured, the LFE only goes to the sub, otherwise, see 1 above.

For years I've been streaming my music from a Microsoft ZuneHD. It handles WMA lossless so I figured why not, but at only 32GB, it doesn't fit my CD collection. I thought about setting up a NAS server, but it there any drawback to simply using a large USB drive plugged into the AV7703's USB port?

Hi all. I can't see this having been asked before, so here goes...
I'm finally looking into going from 7.1 to Atmos, and want to know if my beloved 7703 can do Front Wide channels?

The rear panel says HEIGHT1 AND HEIGHT2, but no mention of Front Wide. Anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

No it cannot as only the 2015 and older models (with exception of the current 2018 flagship AV8805) can do Front Wide, although look for the newer 2020 AV7706 (ETA fall 2020) to possibly be able to operate them (as should also the 2020 SR8015).

Thanks for your answer.

Presumably, if Marantz thought FW was worthwhile, a simple software tweak would allow it, but very interesting that Front Wide seems to be getting phased out by them and other brands. Hmm.

I guess it'll have to be 7.1.2 or 7.1.4 then, with powered studio monitors mounted to the ceiling on or just below on side walls.
I'd be very grateful to hear of anyone's experiences in going to Atmos-land...

I'm running a 5.2.4 system here with a Marantz 7703 and a stack of Adcom amps, driving the new JBL HDI 3600s 4500 on the base 5, and 4 small Klipsch HT 500s ceiling mounted for Atmos/Auro. Personally I'm in love with the overhead immersive speakers/channels and find the immersive systems very valuable in providing a enjoyable sound reproduction system.
YMMV

All major brand mfr's that formerly featured Front Wide speaker capability on 2015 and older models, dropped them beginning with their 2016 models (except the Denon X8500H/Marantz AV8805).

I did that, and tested it, but my question is much more basic. I am assuming that if I rip my CDs using WAV (lossless) and copy to USB that playing a title off of a USB drive is basically the same as spinning a disc. True? (the underlying assumption is that both methods use the AV7703 DAC).

.

Assuming no errors ripping, yes. But you can rip to a lossless compression - flac, etc, get the same result but with less space taken up.

As promised I got a notification today when I turned on the 7703 that there was a new upgrade available. IME they don't roll them out to everyone at the same time but in any case it's time for you to get a e-net cable run to your unit. (and all that have lost their wireless). I would think (hope) this update is here to fix it.

Many thanks guys,
The Seller in the UK has a less than stellar reputation for aftersales/warranty care

Unfortunatly I will have to look at something else... Denon seems likely
