I would say it's a good value at this price. For me, it would be hard to justify paying the original price though. I have external amps so really just need a processor, and it seems like a good replacement for the Onkyo 818. The Onkyo was the same price 4 years ago.

I was about to get a second 4200 but looks like hFr and 2.1 will need new hardware for hdr10.2. Arg

9 years of Denon AVR 3805 paired with SVS Audio bookshelf speakers + SVS PB10 sub. Upgraded to Def Tech BP8B (for the front towers) about 5 years ago.

Finally decided it is time to upgrade the system. Couldn't choose between a Pioneer Elite and Denon. I really liked the sound of the Elites at Magnolia. Denon came close, but Pioneer felt warmer. They were actually paired with the Def Tech BP8040s at the store.

Found this thread, and decided to go with the x4200W Denons. Just ordered from Amazon (via Electronics Expo). Also picked up a pair of BP8060 fronts since they were on sale (lowest price I have ever seen them at! They will likely not go any lower even for BF; and low stock). Also picked up the A60 Atmos modules for a 5.1.2 setup.

The plan is for the BP8Bs to move to serve as the rears. And I will still use the PB10 sub for the sub 30Hz spectrum...

I also recently started switching to listening my audio files to FLAC (via my Galaxy S7 phone and external DAC). So looking to listen to them on the x4200; I have read good things about this receiver and its ability to stream FLAC from a network attached storage device.

Hoping for a big boost in sound quality.

Isn't there always something new around the corner? Pretty sure the 4200 is fully compliant with HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 which is good enough for everything that is currently out and on the horizon. How fast do you think dynamic metadata with be implemented in source content considering 4k, HDR, WCG are off to a slow start?

edit: Especially since HDMI 2.1 is not finalized yet.

So I picked up the 4200 to replace my Sony DA5400ES. I'm Planning on replacing my 73" Mitsubishi DLP soon with a 4K TV and thought this deal was too good to pass up. I currently have a 7.1 setup with Klipsch Reference II all around. Did the whole set up which was super easy. Put in the History of the Eagles disk and cranked up the volume. First impression was WOW. Loved it. Much brighter sound than my Sony. The room calibration was fantastic. Then, halfway through the first song...DEAD! Completely died. No power. I was impressed enough for that 5 minutes to order a replacement and return the dead unit. Hopefully the next one will last as long as the Sony has.

That stinks. Did you try to reset the AVR? I also purchased the X4200W, but thinking now I should have bought the Yammy 2050. I have had a few minor issues already.

No. Didn't know you could reset it. If I had to guess I'd say it's a bad power supply. It's completely dead. Too late now since I shipped it back this morning. New one coming Monday. Just out of curiosity how do you reset it? I've come to expect some issues with receivers. I had to return my Sony 5300ES as well. The Sony 5300ES was notorious for it's problems. Fortunately Sony replaced it with the 5400ES which lasted me a good 6 years. My Sony has been getting a little flaky recently but nothing simply turning it off and back on didn't solve. Never had any issues with the two Pioneer Elites I've had in the past but my ears preferred the Sony. Judging by the five minutes I had with the 4200 I think I'm really going to like it.

I just bought the last new 4200W from Newegg, through HIDEF Lifestyle for 799 w/3 year warranty. I wasn't completely ready to upgrade yet, but I just couldn't pass up the price. This thread helped me decide quickly before it was too late. Thanks guys, for helping me spend my money...

This unit will replace a Denon 4311ci, running 11.2 (7.2 with heights & wides). I trust the 4200 with ATMOS 5.2.4 will out-perform the 4311, but the 4311 is awesome. The 4311 will go up for sale.

All my speakers (except subs) are DIY Sound Group, will use Volt 6's for ATMOS.

If you don't mind refurbs then accessories4less.com. It's pretty difficult to find the x4200 new anymore for a decent price.

Unfortunately, you don't live near a Fry's Electronics so you wont be able to take advantage of the x3300 deals when on sale as they are In Store Only pricing. The x3300 will go anywhere from $479 to $549 when Fry's is running one of their specials.

I don't live near one either however during BF sales, I got x3300 shipped for $479. I always wondered if they have only fewer in stock for shipping and more for in store pickups.

Subwoofers: SVS PB-1000

That's an awesome deal. Wonder if Marantz has a decently priced receiver with XT32 and multi sub eq. I'm not too familiar with their lineup. Thanks for your help guys I guess I will keep my eyes peeled for this deal. Hopefully it comes back soon?

The 4200 is fantastic . I used my old Sony stereo amp to add 9.1. The xt32 with sub filtering is amaIng . The airplay and Bluetooth nearly (yes not perfect) flawless. Alexa control is great
