I ran YPAO on my new 5200 a couple days ago for the first time, and didn't care for the results after I viewed them. So I just made the changes and exited the program. Did that not save what I did?

Changes are saved as you make them. There is so "Save" function. You can, however, clear settings and overwrite settings.

Yep, I do it often (from my DLNA server).

Oops, just noticed you were asking about multichannel files. To that the answer is NO! I really wish it wasn't so.

But after looking around some more I decided I would want to possibly do a full Dolby Atmos 7.4 system. Thus I thought I would just go for the RX-A3080. But I've sold my previous amps and to do a full 7.4 system, I would have to buy an amp even with the receiver. So now I'm at the point of well, just get the CX-A5200 and an amp. And after looking at some reviews and reading on here, I really want the CX-A5200 now! And one of the other reasons I want the CX-A5200 is as I discovered on this forum, it has the multi channel inputs that the new receivers don't have anymore. I still have my nice Marantz Multi Channel SACD/DVD Audio player and wasn't sure if I was going to be able to use that anymore. But now I'm in luck again.

I probably won't get the Yamaha amp to go with it though. I'm looking at a Monolith amp, but haven't quite decided yet. The speakers I'm leaning towards right now are the Martin Logan Motions, with the 35XT bookshelves as my mains. I'm done with moving huge tower speakers around. I just want smaller speakers and a nice big sealed sub such as the ML Dynamo 1100. So that's my current plan, but I have to wait a bit. I'm going to be moving within the next 2 months and don't want to add any more items before I move. But thanks for all the info.
Whats not to want right I ended up adding Red Dragon Audio 1000 Watt apps to the front mains, and Emotiva for all the other channels.....

I have played several blu-rays that are listed as having Atmos soundtracks, but nothing says "Atmos" on the 5200's display. I'm sure it's something I don't have set properly. Anyone?

What does it say? You can have it set up to show either the "input" format or the "decoder" used. You may have it set up to show the decoder.

Thanks. That was it. Just had to figure out how to change the display setting. Now it shows "Atmos" with an Atmos encoded disc.

Recently received, well went and picked them up as my wife misunderstood what I wanted from the shipping company as far as delivering since I requested delivery after 6PM thinking it would arrive on a weekday not a weekend. Anyways, the CX/MX 5200s replaced a 3070 and a never even opened XPA-2 from Emotiva. I just recently built a house here in Japan and the intentions for originally getting the XPA-2 was to go 11 channels in the new place. Then the more I thought about it, I wasn't going to like that the front L/R were going to have more dynamic power than the center channel. Rarely listen to music at home and the room I had built was purposely built as a theater room, though without a PJ, just an OK sized OLED and the center channel is oh so important. So on a whim, decided to purchase the Yammy combo, have always owned Yamaha, well once bought a cheap Onkyo AVR (well at the time it wasn't cheap to me) years and years ago, but quickly jumped back to Yammy and have never looked back. I thought slightly about Denon's 8500, but then thought, whether true or not, that it must generate quite a bit of heat with all those amps packed into that chassis. I do have AIRCOM T10 fans on top of both current units and 1 would of helped the Denon for sure, but just hard to leave what you know and really like, plus I wouldn't of really used the extra channels it comes with, or knowing myself, would have went ahead and purchased a couple more speakers that I don't really need (a couple more SVS Prime Elevations would have been nice though).

Setup was typical Yamaha simplicity, though it took longer wiring everything up than actually configuring once all was wired. YPAO I only setup in one location with angles. I will say that with my 2 sets of SVS Elevation mounted to the ceiling, it correctly determined the front set as being overhead, but the rear set it configured them as on the rear wall for whatever reason, maybe just the angles captured. Easy enough as we know to make that change in the configuration afterwards. As well as I had to set up some of the speakers to small and with a 80Hz crossover, interestingly not all the speakers were set to large, even though my front, side and rears are all the same model of speaker. Used 90Hz as the cutover on the overheads, probably could have went a bit higher, because I thought I read once that the freq sent over those channels is like 120Hz and up, but I don't really recall if I actually read that somewhere legitimate or was just a post by whoever.

I'm more than pleased with the CX/MX combo and I got a decent deal with the ¥/$ exchange at the time (plays a part as I picked up the Japanese model with the 100V 50/60Hz power), plus my Credit Union had a $500 back with spending over $4000 in the first 90 days of a new CC of theirs, so saved even a little more on the 2 components with that cash back. The AI surround is as others here have described, it definitely adds some nice nuance to the already decent ATMOS/DTS-X tracks on the many UHDs I own that I have sampled so far. Though need to sample more as the 7.4.4 channels are MUCH better than the 5.4.4 channels I only had before.

Anyone else with this unit get a firmware update today? Already had 1.51, but an update is installing right now, but not finding any information from Yamaha on new firmware above 1.51.

Just finished and it is now version 1.65.

Presume it's the new eARC, Spotify, and AirPlay 2. Yamaha has previously said that they will be provided via firmware update for the 5200.

I just "kicked off" my update.

Yes it does look like that was it..

Later this month, Yamaha will add AirPlay 2 compatibility to 15 of its soundbars, wireless speakers, and receivers. 23 receivers will gain HDMI eARC.

Just posted on the RX-A1070/2070/3070 thread:

It's likely for eARC and Actions on Google,
...that were announced April 15/2019.

For the 5200/RX-A 80 series, also AirPlay 2, Qobuz and Spotify Connect updates

hi, I tried the cxa-5200 with the two channels I find it less defined than the cxa-5100, even in multichannel I feel a lack of resolution, less details in the high range, how is this possible ??

No idea, not my experience at all (indeed mine has been the opposite). I have migrated thusly CX-A5000 -> CX-A5100 -> CX-A5200 over the past four or so years and never noticed that. I would look for differences in setup/configuration between your 5100 and 5200.

thanks for the answer, my impression and that the sound of the cx-5100 is more open has a more defined stereophonic scene the voices are real, in multichannell sacd-dvd audio the details are more subtle, I fear that the specimen I have tried has problems,

Stay Away From Marantz

Very disappointed and regret waiting
I've owned (4) Marantz home theater units. (3) top of the line receivers and now the AV8802A. Good luck getting anyone at Marantz to answer a question or even acknowledge that a problem exists. ALL of the units struggled with simple remote control tasks and all of them struggled with the network module including my current AV8802A. Last year I sent a message and mentioned that if they couldn't respond then the next unit I purchased will not say "Marantz" on the front. Well, this has become a prophesy fulfilled. I ordered the Yamaha CX-5200 and I'm looking forward to being rid of the albatrose AV8802A. I must say that the audyssey MultEQ XT32 sounds incredible yet any consumer good that brings continuous frustration is best replaced.

Is everyone still happy with the 5200? Im from uk and bought a nad for dirac, but lack of hdmi inputs is starting to annoy me. Anyway i recently posted this over at avf on the nad thread and it got me thinking...
If you was super happy with the Yamaha why not stick with that, funnily, the only amp I have in the loft that's never let me down is a old dsp a5 (I think) yamaha. When my denons blew, out came the yamaha..arcam went flaky..out came the yamaha..hmmmm maybe I'll have a look at the new ones....

So i was originally thinking avm 60 second hand for the new genesis rc then saw the 5200 which i could probably get around the same price but the yamaha would be brand new, any thoughts?
Thank you.

I switched from the AVM60 to the 5200 after hearing a 2070.

Also, as we're a mac household, owning a Win laptop for the sole purpose of running ARC (Anthem Room Correction,) not to mention the "obtuseness" of the ARC program, was also a pain (I've since sold the laptop as well.)

I'm quite happy with my 5200. I owned a 5100 before that and a 5000 before that. Guess I'm something of a Yamaha guy. Switched to Yamaha years ago when I had lots of troubles with other brands and fell in love with the Yamaha DSP modes (using a DSP 100 back in the late '80s).

I just received my CX-A5200 yesterday and will hook it up tomorrow, temporarily at least until I get my new entertainment console setup.
I had just moved into my house here 3 weeks ago and was able to have some speaker runs made for surrounds (including Atmos speakers) and outside, as well as getting an additional 20 amp receptacle added before they drywalled. Try explaining Atmos speakers to an electrician who doesn't have a AV Sound system! Still need to get new TV, I have my 55" Plasma to tide me over. I'm going to end up with 2 amps with a 5.1.4 system and an outside zone. The only other issue I have to address is the very hard/reflective room this is in. Have laminate floors instead of carpet and otherwise drywall, windows, cabinets etc. Not much sound absorption at all.

Thank you.
By all accounts, the 5200 is a great piece of kit! Plenty of features, very reliable and well made (I believe it is still made in Japan). I have the AVM 60, the general consensus is the Anthem is a tad better for 2 channel analogue and Arc Genesis is a bit better room correction software than the YPAO. These are just very slight, as I considered the 5200 but there wasn't any dealers that had one for demonstration, and 2 channel (cd's) music is still important to me. But, you should be very satisfied with it, I am sure. Enjoy!

Yes.

So much so that, as I said, I preferred the sound of the 2070 in the family room - next thing you know the 5200 was replacing the AVM60 in the HT.

I also have dual subs, and very happy with the switch.

My CX-5200 arrived today. This is a replacement for my marantz av8802A. Fortunately I have years of experience with setting up Audyssey. Along with the expert suggestions on forums, I was able to get this YPAO setup without excruciating pain. It only took a short 4 hours...... Now for the BIG question. Why is the marantz over $1,000 more???? I was very apprehensive about this switch due to the cost variable. I haven't watched a movie yet so what I have to say is only 2 channel dependent. This CX-5200 is better sounding. It's very peculiar after owning the marantz units over the years. This unit DOESN'T run HOT and the strangest thing. The remote actually functions flawlessly. This is peculiar to me yet also the reason for DITCHING the marantz. Every marantz I owned had GREAT difficulty accessing the options or even the setup menus. This was inspiring me to try this lesser priced unit that, as I said, sounds better. I was impressed with the marantz which is why I suffered so long. If this sounds like I'm badmouthing the marantz it's only because I am. I about to fire up an Atmos movie and take this unit for a spin. Please consider this and my precious post as a cautionary tale.

When I built my Home Theater I went with Integra. When they ditched Audyssey I did a giant comparo with the Marants 8802a, 7702mkII, Anthem 60, Emotiva XMC, NAD, and Yamaha 5100. The Yamaha sounded the best along with the Emotiva. My room is treated so I need less room correction. But the problem I had with the Marantz & Anthems was they both destroyed the sound. Both of them lost detail. I find them to be the most over rated products on these forums. The Emotiva did a great job but at that time was buggy.

Hey everyone new to the forum here. Just picked up a CX 5200 in DOA condition for a good price. I hope to get it working soon. Would anyone happen to know what the fuse rating. I popped the lid and it’s missing! (Also does everyone use the XLR for balanced audio to speakers or RCA? I think this might be a noob question) Anyways thanks for any help.
