IMHO Yamaha is one of the best mid priced processors there is with Marantz, so here is my wish list for the CX-A5200

  • 9.4.4-channel preamplifier with balanced XLR outputs including four subwoofer outputs
  • Built-in Wi-Fi supporting 5GHz
  • DIRAC Unison
  • Support up to 9.4.4-ch
  • ESS SABRE™ Ultra DAC ES9018 Reference 32-bit Audio DAC for all channels
  • USB ports 1 type A, 1 type B 1 type C for digital audio 24-bit/192kHz Asynchronous
  • 18 gbps chipset is 4K 4:4:4 60p


Remove

- All the component and composite video input and output

- RS 232C and replace that with USB port

I agree with most of the list, but Dirac Unison...I don't think you will see it in a home setup as it was designed for Car setups which usually have all identical speakers unlike home theaters. I would be happy to see them go with Dirac though.

I know what I want but I doubt these are things I'd even speculate on.

I have my doubts about them adding more speaker outputs by next year. Wow, if they did.

And Dirac? Ha! Yeah, no.

Why license that expensive and complicated system when they are proud of their home-brew REQ?

  • 9.1.4 speaker layout (with upgrades to CinemaDSP programs to utilize these vector points)
  • Upgrades to YPAO (target curve, limit bandwidth of REQ)
  • Upgrade to built-in PEQ (more filters and wider bandwidth of frequency center point)
  • Advanced Bass Management with quad Sub outputs (Two main subwoofer out with option to omit LFE channel, One dedicated LFE channel output with option for fixed or relative volume, One dedicated Transducer output with option for either/both Bass Managed content and LFE channel and option fro fixed or relative volume)
  • Retain ProLogic 2x
  • Add DTS Neo:X (especially if wides are now supported)
  • Two USB A jacks in rear, single A and single C jacks up front
  • XLR jacks for ALL available speaker/sub outputs. ALL of them. There is room.
  • Improved GUI and Yamaha APP layout
  • some simple controls easier to access quickly

This, plus loudness compensation for all speaker configurations (don't currently have a 5100 because loudness doesn't work with DTS:X/Neural:X).

...EDIT.... And Yamaha could go even more granular....the ability to save a SCENE with Dolby Surround with Centre Spread ON, and also with Centre Spread OFF. So you could save a SCENE for music listening, one for movie watching etc.

Yeah. Plus stuff like tivos and such where if you use HDMI they do HDCP, but if you use component they don't. Important at times for a problem free tv watching experience.

My wishes for the future is no more hdcp issues. All the rest I can live with even though some additions would be nice. I'm just sick and tired of the hdcp problems.

I have not heard the 5000 or 5100 but there were a number of comparisons done with the 8802 where the 8802 was preferred for 2 channel. This also goes for the Anthem AV60 (8802 preferred). I believe the Yamaha will be the most reliable of the three brands so if they focused a bit on the analog out portion they could close that gap. The version of XT-32 is the primary reason I have not gone with the 8802. Heat output and 12 V trigger reliability doesn't help either. I am certain the 5100 would be a step up on my 80.3.

You really should listen for yourself. In the threads you are referring too all of the "listeners" owned a Marantz or Denon. I've read through two other threads where the CX-A5100 was preferred over the 8802, one a Yamaha owner and the other an Onkyo owner. To each their own.

Possibly never, but at least not in the past 4 years or so; however, with the release of the 2016 models, all other major brands no longer feature Front Wide capability as well.

Pretty much agree. Although 9.2.4 would be my wish (as a minimum spec).

I'm wired for 11.2.4 now, and with a 5-channel Sunfire driving my mains (bi-amping for now) and center, plus a MX-A5000 driving 11 more channels it'd be doable.

A transducer output separate from the sub output(s) would be cool. Especially as some transducers can go down to single digit frequency ratings.

YPAO on the stand alone processor ABSOLUTELY NEEDS UPGRADING! I was thinking about ditching my 3060 just this week in lieu of a 5100 but for the fact that the 5100 doesn't even have the 4 band parametric EQ (going down to 15.2Hz) for the two subwoofer outputs like the 3060 does. I mean what the heck?!?!!!???

And not only do we need to leave the component inputs (for those if us that have legacy sources (some that have internal scaling to say 1080p that are better than a receiver or processor) or just put out a native signal that looks better going to the set for processing than passing through a receiver/surround processor.

And it should ABSOLUTELY.... beyond a shadow of a doubt.... have 7.1 analog audio inputs. (At least keep the current 5.1 inputs.) Some of us still have SACD and/or concert DVD's with multichannel audio tracks.

Speaking of component inputs. I was THRILLED to see all the inputs on the Sony ZD9 when it arrived. :-) Swapped the Samsung KS9800 for the Sony and that darned thing had nothing but a cheesy little box with HDMI inputs. At least Sony not only kept component, but has several of them. Even has RJ45 or wireless options for networking. And it also has the most elegant cable management system I've ever seen! YESSSSS!

Do you mean that the current 5100 doesn't have the ability to save the settings for different scenes as far as the decoding and even video settings/processing? I know that the 3010 and the 3020 (which I had, one of which wouldn't even switch 4K) AND the 3060 that I have now will save all of your sound and video settings for each individual scene.

Now you're preaching to the choir. :-)

Everything having to connect via HDMI is handy but let's be realistic here... the manufacturers, Movie Studios and Recording Studios are doing this because obviously all of us are nothing but a bunch of Thieves and Crooks that intend on spending every waking moment copying all of their hard work and distributing it in Black Market channels.

Bit seriously Yamaha, it's time to step up here.

I've owned, and been a fan ig Yamaha processors since the very first DSP 1. Plus of course a number of their 2 channel separates (preamps and amps) over the last almost 40 years. So yeah.... I know they have the ability to do it, and do it WELL.

Remove all analog video from the unit and replace with a few display port 1.4 ports.

Remove video processing completely. Displays are just as good at this point.

Bit seriously Yamaha, it's time to step up here.

I've owned, and been a fan ig Yamaha processors since the very first DSP 1. Plus of course a number of their 2 channel separates (preamps and amps) over the last almost 40 years. So yeah.... I know they have the ability to do it, and do it WELL.

The funniest thing is HDCP haven't worked one bit against pirating films. Nobody copies from the HDMI output of a player anyway.
