Correct. The current HEOS promotion applies to the (4) 2016 Denon and Marantz models with the built-in HEOS module (ie. Denon X4300H/X6300H and Marantz SR7011/AV7703).

I called Marantz and found out the 7011 does have a slightly better DAC and dual band width (?) wireless (5.0), so I went with the 7011.

Not that I am aware of no ... rather it uses the exact same DAC.

Thanks for this thread. I was deciding on the same thing. I don't need HEOS, so getting $1000 off the 7010 made sense.

Needless to say it's now all hooked up and I'm happy with it! Amazing difference in sound from a Pioneer 7.1!
Which Pioneer are you coming from? I am considering going to the 7010 from my trusty Pioneer SC-37. I am very happy with the sound, but want to make the move to Atmos (already have the speakers in the ceiling) and the SC-37 is just a lowly 7.1 receiver.

Still have it, my Pioneer VSX-9130TXH.. Paid $200 for it in 2009 NIB. Thing is a TANK! I might use it for a 5.1 in my computer room...

Love the 7010! Especially for the price!

Speaking of tanks, my 7011 is much lighter than my Denon 3808. Have they created a way to make them better and lighter, or does this mean they aren't made like they used to be?

Denon 38.25 pounds.

Marantz 30.4 pounds

The Marantz is about 20% lighter.

Not likely. Your friend's mic is most likely a large diaphragm condensor of some sort, and is almost certainly marketed as a vocal mic. Mics, like speakers, are never ruler flat. Vocal mics also typically have a lift in the 15khz range whereas measurement mics may not. More importantly, your friend's mic probably has a cardioid or hyper cardioid pickup pattern, and the mics that come with AVR's are omnis.

Programs like audyssey account for the characteristics of a specific mic they are designed to be used with.

Besides, not knowing what your friends mic actually is (LDC's run off of phantom power, electrets are battery powered, dynamics aren't powered), I would be wary of plugging a $1000 mic into a mystery port on a consumer AVR. Wouldn't want to damage it.

2. Audyssey DSX simulates audio to Front Wide speakers which is no longer supported on any 2016 major brand AVR to include the SR7011.
3. Both models are DLNA capable (in fact most AVR models for the past few years are Wifi capable).
4. Both models can use the newer 2016 Marantz Remote app.
5. Front Wide speakers dropped on the SR7011 so no longer need 13 pre-outs, rather only 11.

HEOS provides powered Wifi/Bluetooth audio to other rooms either via the HEOS app or via the HEOS module built-in to the SR7011. Current HEOS promotion features a FREE HEOS 1 HS2 (MSRP $199) or $200 credit towards a larger HEOS 3/5/7.

If you have no need for either HEOS or the Audyssey app, the SR7010 would be the more cost effective purchase as it's on clearance.

@jdsmoothie you mentioned the sr7010 will be able to use the new audyessy app. Was that a typo or is the 7010 and 7011 both supported?

Also is the app out? I can not seem to find it.

Oops! Yup ... typo, sorry.

Only the 2016 models (ie. SR7011) will be able the use the new Audyssey app which has not yet been released.
