Do you guys use the video conversion?

I know most people love to have the on screen display and menu overlay,

but I am thinking the video quality would be better, and the video processor run cooler with it turned off?

With the manual lip sync adjustment I notice a little difference in the time delay need to be a little different between using conversion on or off also. Is this possible?

I'm looking to pick up an AVR-X4400H pretty soon. One of my primary uses will be to stream music over the network into Zone 2, which feeds an amp driving some in-ceiling speakers. Looking at the Denon support page for this I came across the information below. I'm curious if anyone here has had any issues at all streaming FLAC over the network connection of the Denon. All of my FLAC files have embedded art with 600x600 artwork, so I have some concerns there.



Playing back a file saved on a PC or NAS

• This unit is compatible with MP3 ID3-Tag (Ver. 2) standard.
• This unit can show the artwork that was embedded by using MP3 ID3-Tag Ver. 2.3 or 2.4.
• This unit is compatible with WMA META tags.
• If the image size (pixels) of an album artwork exceeds 500 × 500 (WMA/MP3/WAV/FLAC/Apple Lossless/DSD) or 349 × 349 (MPEG-4 AAC), then music may not be played back properly.

Pretty specific request but is anyone able to compare the upscaling of sub-4K content (e.g. cable) on a C8 to the upscaling from a x3400h?? Thank you so much!

I can't specifically comment on the C8 but on my 65KS8000 the difference was quite a bit better through the 3400

My static assigned network settings on my 4400 keep getting reset to 0.0.0.0, including the MAC addresses disappearing until I unplug the network cable for about 15 seconds, and plug it back in (and maybe do a "power reset" as well.) It's happened twice since I've bought my receiver. I'm hoping a microprocessor reset does the trick, which I haven't tried yet.

Hey all

I got my X4400H Yesterday that I exchanged for my X3400H and got it all setup. Very happy with it naturally.

I ran Audyssey on it as before and this time kept things as they were set. (Thank you Selden Ball for your help before.) Sounds great from the little time I had with it.

I was curious as to one thing. Audyssey set my sub level very Low, -7db and I was just wondering why. I did preset the level on the sub to 75db as instructed during Audyssey so I guess I am a little surprised it is still adjusted so drastically in my AVR. My sub is a Dayton and far from high end or powerful. It’ll be upgraded....someday.

That low a level just means that the subwoofer still sounded rather loud to Audyssey's calibration procedure, so it turned the receiver's output down frather. Also, our hearing is relatively insensitive to the lowest frequencies so that level doesn't seem very loud.

Audyssey tries to make all of the sounds at all frequencies have the same sound level at the main listening position. It turned down the receiver's output to -7dB for the subwoofer so it'd produce the same sound level as the other speakers. Unfortunately, that's not what sounds best to most people. As a result, many people turn up the subwoofer's trim level by about 5dB.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it. So the sub level is something I may want to change and that won’t have a negative affect on my Audyssey calibration? People tend to go up about 5db you say? So then I’d want to take my up to -2? Just making sure I got that right.

You got that right. But adjust the trim level to taste. I turned mine up by only 3dB, for example.

Yeah I will play around with it. Since my sub isn’t the best I have to watch it sounding too boomy. I’ve never wanted to spend a lot of money on a sub, but since I jus5t spent $900 on an AVR, it may be time to upgrade my thinking.

Thanks again for all your help regarding Audysssey. I’ve learned a lot. A month ago I had gotten a Onkyo Tx-rz810 on discount due to my old Onkyo being eligible for a discount replacement. I had to talk my wife into a $350 AVR. Now here I am a month later with one that costs $900. Haha! I didn’t keep the Onkyo specifically because of Audyssey and that’s why I ended up with my first Denon. Audyssey has gotten a lot better and I am glad I ended up with an AVR that has it. (My family used Dynamic Volume a lot, even though I turn it off. It’s great for them.)

Wanted to confirm that the X3400 only receives Bluetooth, it doesn’t transmit.

If so, any recommendations on a decent Bluetooth transmitter?

Also, is there a way to just turn on a pair of headphones and have the AVR transmit directly to that without having to go plug things in, or at the very most just hit a button on a Harmony remote? My receiver is tucked away in a closet and I’m lazy

Confirmed. Denon and Marantz models do not "transmit" Bluetooth or in any other way "wirelessly" transmit to a pair of headphones without a 3rd party device.

Currently have a x1300w in the main floor family room. Picked up a x4400h on clearance for the Home Theatre and really like the HEOS. I now want to sell my x1300 and purchase a x1400h b-stock. The upgrade cost would be minimal. Unfortunately the x1400h b-stock is now out-of-stock up here in Canada.

My options are now a s730h or a Marantz NR1608 (x2400h is too tall for my cabinet). I can get the 730h for less or equal to what I can sell x1300 for, but the Marantz will be $80 - $100 more. However, both only have MultEQ and not MultEQ XT, and the 1608 only has 50 watts. However both offer HEOS and DTS Virtual X, and the NR1608 is slim line.

Any thoughts? Does the Marantz offer anything above the Denon - other than being slim. Is the drop to MultEQ drastic? I do use the MultEQ app. I stop the filter at 400Hz on the mains, 2000 Hz on the centre.

I've got a 7.1 system with the rear surrounds set as top mids (they are actually the same distance from the front as the surrounds, and in the ceiling).

I'm not sure what the difference in the Dolby Digital + Dolby Surround and Neural X and all those different ones are.

No, I've read through that twice now (including just now). I'm either phrasing the question poorly or we have some other disconnect.

They are just different upmixers for either 2.0 (or having fewer channels than available speaker's) content. Some prefer the DSU for dialogue heavy movies and music and Neural-X for action movies but try both and see which you prefer for your content. There aren't any wrong choices there.

As far as i'm aware they are just split up like that for different source/content type selection.

1. That would be HEOS.
2. The X2400H is only 5/8" taller than the S730H. Unless you plan on putting an AC Infinity fan (1") on top of the AVR, there is likely to be insufficient ventilation even with the S730H (need at least 3-4" clearance).
3. Not that much difference between MultEQ and XT, rather much more noticeable going to XT32.
4. With fairly sensitive speakers (ie. at least 87dB @ 8-ohm) in a not so large room, the NR1608 should drive them just fine.
5. The NR1608 features Front L/R pre-outs as well as Zone 2 pre-outs, neither of which is featured on the S730H.

I've read that some actually preferred the fewer filters that basic MultEQ offered over XT but they were the "less is more" crowd when it comes to room correction so I'm not sure how universal that idea is shared among the larger Audyssey user base. The slim line of receivers are slim in their power supplies so to me the S730H would be my recommend over a slim line.

Does anyone have any experience with Denon extended warranties? Price, etc? I went to the website on the card that came with my 4400H but the only product that shows in the drop down is headphones. I can’t find the info on AVR extended Warranties.

I would check with your credit card issuer first as many offer a FREE extended warranty of 1-2 years.

I didn’t buy it with a card that offers that. I used my Amazon prime store card.
