Update: Sorry if I seem a little overexcited. Going from never using QuickSelect to now really having an infinite number of them is really a game changer for me. Now comparing the differences is sooo much easier. Amazing stuff for an older guy who is new to latest options. Still haven't wrapped my head around the Heos speaker thing...lol
That's awesome. Making me wish I had gotten a Harmony with a screen but I like the battery life on the Companion. Maybe next upgrade.

If I were to add two SVS Prime Elevation speakers to my system to use as Atmos speakers in a 5.1.2 setup, what do people think is the best positioning for them and the best matched amp assign setting in a X3400H?

I was thinking to get them and add them slightly forward of the seating either high on the walls pointing down or actually mount them to the ceiling angled toward the seating position slightly in from the walls (I have a ceiling fan to work around though). I guess in that case the "Top Middle" setting on amp assign would be appropriate.

I'm not sure if mounting them as actual front height speakers and using that setting would work better. I'm thinking not though given that my ceilings are only 8ft high. I think the "bubble" would be made better using the ceiling or high center wall mount.

I had 2 Prime Elevation speakers and mounted them on the side walls slightly FWD of the listening position. I used the Dolby layout for overhead speakers, using their profile view at the 80 degree position. I had the amp assigned to Top Middle.

I just upgraded from a X2400H to a X4400H and added 2 new Prime Elevation speakers this weekend. I moved the original set further FWD on the walls, and added the new set equal distance behind the listening position. Not exactly per the Dolby profile view layout, but it was the best I could do with my room. I assigned these to Top Front and Top Rear.

The ideal location would be in (or mounted on) the ceiling directly above and 1-2' forward of the main listening position configured as "Top Middle."

If that is not possible, then anything forward of that either in/on the ceiling or on the front wall using a configuration of either Front Height or Top Front (ie. you'd have to experiment to determine which you prefer using).

How did it sound with your first layout using top-middle? Did it seem to work well?

Would directly above still be valid with the Prime Elevations though since they have that built in angle when mounted flat on a ceiling? I guess the orientation is different with them (or maybe just find a good on-wall speaker that can be mounted on a ceiling that is a traditional flat speaker).

It did sound good, but most of the ATMOS stuff I have heard has been Netflix stuff and have not been blown away. I have a few UHD movies, but again, never been blown away. I need to find some really good ATMOS movies to test out my new setup.

Really don't need a screen on the Harmony. I taught the 650 the 4400's QuickSelects to the physical number buttons on the bottom of the 650. Really makes adjusting and testing easier.

You could download and use the Tapatalk app. It's free with small ads as you scroll through. You hardly even notice them after awhile. I have it on my Galaxy S7 and haven't heard any issues with my posts. There's even a quick link hamburger button to quickly go to the mobile browser version to delete a post. You just sign up to it and connect your AVS Forum account and you're good to go.

So I just got the Heos 1 speaker. Set it up and it can't be used with Air Play? Is this serious?

What I was previously doing was playing audio from an app (pocket casts or google play music). I would then select air play and I could use the Heos app to select which zone I wanted to use. (I have the x1400h and zone 2 is my back patio).

I thought the Heos speaker would allow this as well, so that I could listen to the airplay stream from my main speakers and the heos speaker at the same time.

But it won't let me drag the speaker into the main room in the Heos app. Says not available while using airplay. Man what a weak limitation. This thing is basically useless for me if I can't get that to work.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work? I have a chromecast audio, which I guess the Heos 1 will work with an analog source so I could use that, that just sounds like one more level of complexity though.

###EDIT###
I got around the issue by hooking up a chromecast audio to the analog input for CBL/SAT. I can then stream from my phone through the main zones and also the HEOS speakers. It's not an elegant setup, works for me but will be too much of a pain for the wife. I guess thats what I get for buying the cheaper receiver.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize this applied to airplay as well since I was previously able to use the HEOS app to control airplay streaming. I can deal with the limitation for now.

HEOS speakers are not Airplay compatible; however, you can select MUSIC - THIS PHONE using the HEOS app to stream audio from your phone/tablet to the HEOS speaker.

Yeah thanks I saw that. Most of my music is streamed or it's podcasts. Both with apps Heos doesn't support. Like I said above I got around this with a Chromecast audio and an analog connection.

Do you know if airplay would work if I had an x3400 and up? Or is airplay not available period?

I had a X2400H for a few years and just upgraded to a X4400H. I have a Harmony Elite remote that controls all my activities. I have HDMI control turned off on the X4400H. I've had the unit for a few weeks now and 4 times I have come down in the morning to find the X4400H on while nothing else in my system is turned on.

The first time this happened, I thought maybe the Harmony didn't turn off the X4400H and I didn't catch it, so since then I have waited a minute or so after shutting everything down to make sure everything turned off and stayed off. Everything worked great for a few days, then come down in the morning to have the receiver on. Like I said, this has happened 4 or maybe 5 times now, with multiple days in between without incident.

I have Auto-update turned off. Any idea what would trigger the receiver to turn on by itself? I have no clue what would cause this and never had this issue with the X2400H. My receiver is in a cabinet, which I have an AC Infinity fan for, but it only turns on when I turn on the entire system. I can't have this randomly turn on and run for hours on end with no ventilation.

I know I could get a smart power strip, but shouldn't need to just to protect the unit from a random power on scenario.

Thanks

Just did the 4400 update myself, love it. Is it turning on to Main Zone, or Zone 2 or 3? Same way each time? On the Harmony 650 you have to name each zone as a separate "device". Maybe 2 or 3 are not shutting off?

I typically am on my AppleTV 4K streaming DirecTVNow or Netflix, and when it turns back on it turns back onto that input. I don't have anything connected to Zones 2 & 3 yet, and have never even looked at setting them up yet.

I get it that the speaker doesn't support it natively. But that's too bad that it can't just treat it as another digital source when connected to an x3400 and up.

Just to be clear here.... Separate HEOS speakers themselves may not support Airplay.... but I just recently installed a 4400 for a client of mine and he only uses Apple products and Itunes... The Denon receiver itself is fully capable with Airplay and will indeed stream music to all its zones... He has a 7.1 system and we are able to use zone 3 to stream with his Iphone to his outside pool area with no problems.

Yes thank you. I do this myself. With the main zone and a second zone in the backyard. I just (falsely) assumed that the Heos speaker would operate like a normal zone does. Thank you for the clarification.

Denon AVRs are Airplay capable devices. HEOS speakers are not.

Makes sense. Probably some reason that Apple won't allow it.

Yup. I always forget that one because it sounds so similar to Skynet.

Thanks
I had a similar issue with my 3400H. Do you by chance have a nVidia Shield TV connected to the 4400H? I have all the HDMI controls disabled. In my case, even though I also had the nVidia Shield also have all it's HDMI controls disabled, some kind of random handshakes would still occasional happen. My 3400H would just turn itself on. I finally had to keep the Shield unplugged and powered down to resolve this.

I had everything setup the same as my x2400h, which I thought had all Bravia sync settings turned off, but the “BRAVIA Sync control” setting was on but it was grayed out where I couldn’t turn it off, and when selecting it a pop up message would appear saying “Not available while BRAVIA Sync compatible audio system is used.” And under the “BRAVIA Sync device list” it had my Sony x700 UHD player and Denon X4400H listed.

So I had turn on the TV without the Denon turned on, THEN I could turn off the “BRAVIA Sync control” OFF and it removed the x700 and x4400H. So no more Sony TV HDMI control with the receiver, and hopefully this solved the issue.

Weird it didn’t cause issues with the prior x2400h.

Thanks
