Do members with set ups like mine just set to the core processing mode without the dolby surround? I Can't say I've noticed much different between it being on and not, but I haven't experimented much.

You won’t notice anything. Just go to the next selection of just Dolby or TrueHD. It only applies if you have heights (Atmos) otherwise, it won’t make any difference

4k playback through laptop

Hi - hoping someone can help me here. I tried calling Denon this morning and was on the phone with them almost an hour.

2 issues came up when I was trying to play streamed movies through Vudu website on my MBP onto a Epson 5050UB projector. I have a USB-C to HDMI converter and then plugged a high speed 4K HDMI cable into my Aux 1 and Aux 2 channels.

Aux 1 won't work whatsoever (blank screen and says no signal) and the tech support couldn't help me get a signal at all and says I need to send off for repair.

Aux 2 I get a signal and it mirrors my laptop screen, however when I push play on the movie I get an error message saying it can only play in SD (not HDX or UHD, which I own). Denon tech support keeps saying it's a problem with my macbook but seems to me it'd be a setting on the 2400 receiver?

I'd like Aux1 to work so I can plug into front of the receiver and not have to move the receiver out to access the back port, but bigger issue is getting HD or 4K playback on the movies since that's why I got the projector!

Thanks for any help or pointers!

My guess would be that your USB-C to HDMI cable is not HDCP 2.2 compliant hence the messages and why you are allowed playback in SD. Here is an example of the cable that you should have in your chain for 4K/60FPS HDR playback through your Macbook Pro.

That would be the most simple solution - ordered it and hope it works!

I was using this that I got off Amazon previously that said it's HDMI 4K compatible as well.....

https://www.amazon.com/Thunderbolt-M...s%2C154&sr=1-3

Any idea why the AUX 1 wouldn't work at all? Separate issue altogether?

I think Aux1 will work as well once you get the new cable . I think Denon support isn't as well informed/trained about HDCP issues as one would hope. If you have an 4K media player, 4K cable box or UHD player you could just plug that into AUX 1 and AUX 2 to test that they both work.

Also....that does claim to do "[email protected]" as well....amazingly, I've never seen such a resolution outside of 4k, 8k, and even saw an article for a 16 million dollar 16K Micro-LED!!!! So...you know, how much can they be trusted/believed..... /s (kidding around, of course its a typo...)

The headphones would have to be connected to the PS4 otherwise headphones connected to the X3400H will disable audio going to the speakers/sub.

Is there something I'm missing?
These issues seem to be mostly on my Roku input (DVD) and I hope it's not a bad hdmi input so I'll try another input but a suggestion regarding Save & Load would be appreciated .
It would seem that you will be unable to use the SAVE feature, but rather will have to simply do the microprocessor reset and then do the setup from the beginning.

Quick remote access for disabling the center spk?

Hi

I have the X4400H. When listening to music in any other mode besides stereo/direct, the center channel is active which slightly lowers the channel separation. I have the harmony pro hub. Is there a way to program it to disable the center speaker when I want to listen to music, and then re-enable it when watching movies?

To do it using the remote, you must navigate through sub-menus, which is very inconvenient.

Thanks

Consider using the surround parameter <Center Spread> (p. 174 Owner's manual) if using the Dolby Surround upmixer on the stereo audio.

Thanks. I'm aware of it. Still even that the center is spread, it is still active. Anyway, this is just a limited workaround for DSU. I want a phantom center for Auro 3D and DTS Neural X as well. The only way to get it is to go into the speaker config and set the center channel to none.

My font speakers are Focal Aria 906 and my center is a cheap Polk T30, which sounds like a transistor radio compared to the Focals. I'm planning on getting a matching center from the great Aria series.

Harmony has a macro feature but since there is no fixed sequence to press in order to disable the center, I need an alternative option.

If your music is from a separate source, you could use the option->channel level adjust and lower the center down all the way to -12. It will remember the setting for that source.

Amazon Music HD launched yesterday, including high resolution audio up to 24bit/192Khz sampling.

If I'm understanding the specs on the 2017 series correctly, the Denon family of AVRs have a DAC that supports up to 32 bit and 192 Khz sampling for ALAC? Would this mean 192Khz sampling is also supported for FLAC, and therefore the Denon AVRs should have no problem supporting high resolution streams from the new Amazon Music HD?

Correct, as long as you're not using Audyssey as once Audyssey is enabled the audio is down rez'd to 24/48Khz first.

Are you referring to the post setup Audyssey features such as MultiEQ XT32, Dynamic EQ etc? If I just use Audyssey setup but don't use any other Audyssey functions, does it still down rez to 24/48?

If Audyssey is turned on, no matter what the settings, it will down-rez everything to 24/48. My experience is that the benefits of Audyssey outweigh any advantage of high-resolution files, but you may reach a different conclusion on your system. Easy enough to try it both ways.

What is the firmware version after the upgrade?

I was prompted for the upgrade but my receiver seemed to be stuck at downloading. I was able to exit the downloading screen. Now when I check for updates I am told no updates available. So not sure if my receiver upgraded to the new version while it was stuck on downloading screen.

Reload SAVED configuration from USB is not working:
My AUX1 HDMI port on my X3400H stopped working, so I decided to try to reset to factory default before thinking about a repair. I saved the configuration to USB drive, then did the normal Factory Reset. I THOUGHT I could power up the unit, reinsert the USB drive, and reload the configuration from the GENERAL menu in settings. BUT - the USB port is not live, and I don't have the option in the general menu (Load is greyed out). What's the correct procedure to reload my configuration from a USB drive?

AND: now I cannot do a Network Setup - system hangs for many minutes (30...) with Please Wait.
Network Reset does nothing.

Looks like a repair???

I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong forum, but I'm not entirely sure where to ask this question.

I'm trying to play Dolby Atmos from my Apple TV 4K through my Denon X3400H receiver. When I do, the Denon shows the Apple TV as "Multi Ch In 7.1." When I press the "Info" button on my Denon remote, it shows the Input Signals as: LFE, FL, C, FR, SL, SR, SBL and SBR. For Atmos, shouldn't it show me input channels for overhead speakers? Or do SBL and SBR carry the signal for my overhead channels?

The above happens even if I go under Speakers->Manual Setup->Amp Assign and choose any of:

Top Front
Top Middle
Surround Dolby

I can only get sound through those overhead speakers if I assign them as Surround Back.

Any help is appreciated!

I was using this that I got off Amazon previously that said it's HDMI 4K compatible as well.....

Any idea why the AUX 1 wouldn't work at all? Separate issue altogether?
Ugh, so frustrated!!! tried the USB C to HDMI cable skylarlove1999 suggested and it doesn't work at all on AUX 1 (says "no signal") and on AUX 2 gives me the same error messages that it can't play in HD on either Amazon streaming or VUDU streaming. And it shows the video but the audio only comes through my laptop.

https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-uni-T.../dp/B075V68NVR

Tried another USB C to HDMI and it works on both AUX 1 and 2 as far as giving video but still only plays SD not HD for both amazon and VUDU, and also doesn't have any audio through my receiver (only on the laptop).

Have no idea where the problem is - Denon 2400 or setting on it, macbook setting, USB C to HDMI cable, or the HDMI cable....and don't know how else to trouble shoot this.

This is the HDMI cable i'm using. Is it possible it's this HDMI cable issue? Actually, guess not. From the monoprice website:

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of digital copy protection developed by Intel Corporation to prevent copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across connections. Currently, any and all future Monoprice.com product carrying the HDMI badging is HDCP compliant and will conform to future version of the standard.

EDIT: maybe it is something with the macbook settings... when I try the 2 different USB C to HDMI cables on a iPAD, both work on AUX 2 for video and audio, but only one of them (QGeeM one) works on AUX 1, while the uni cable only produces sound but no video. I noticed the difference is the QGeeM cable plugged in says "Multi In" on Aux 1 on the front of the 2400, while the uni when plugged in says "stereo." Don't know why changing only the cables leads to 2 different settings?!

I guess now I have to figure out what the laptop settings need to be....

The input should simply say "Dolby Atmos" without any speaker assignments. You’ll need to make sure you have the right settings in your ATV and Denon.

So -- had to check, so I just ran a Atmos video file just now -- if you're doing Atmos correctly, "Input Signal" doesn't show the traditional highlighted speakers it is receiving from the audio signal; it actually just shows the words "Dolby Atmos".
But even before checking, I figured (one of) your issue(s) is the fact that you are running the "Sound Mode" as "Multi Ch. In"; it would best if you click the green button (Movie Sound Mode) until you can get to the selection "Dolby Atmos" (depending, it might even say "Dolby Digital + Dolby Atmos" or something like that).

Also, the reason why you only can get signal to your overhead only when you select "Surround Back" is because anytime you change your "assignment" in "Amp Assign", you're really supposed to re-run Audyssey calibration. FWIW, since I have mine directly over my Surrounds (and because I didn't go for a x4400 or over to be able to have "Top Rear"), I have mine set to Top Middle....

Hope this helps...

What did you run the Atmos speakers as the first time you ran Audyssey? ATV doesn't bitstream so Atmos will show up as multi channel in from an Apple TV. Should show tops, heights or Atmos enabled though not surround back if they were so amp assigned initially.
