Well I have a tale of woe...
Been a long time owner of Yamaha amps and love them. Received a new RX-A2070 on 3/22/2018. Just set it up last weekend. Have used it a total of perhaps 4 hours? Last night we were watching two movies and halfway through the second movie (low volume, at a point in the movie when there was quiet dialogue) there was an audible "pop" and the sound cut out. Looked at the receiver, and it had powered down. No heat, no smell. Tried turning it on again (twice) and the display would come up for about 5 seconds (in normal mode, no error display or anything), and then it would power down again. Now it is completely unresponsive except for the red "stand-by" light that flashes when I try to power on the system. From Yamaha's site, this is an indicator that the system protection is enabled and won't allow the system to power on again without servicing.
I had not (at this point) completely set up my 5.1 stereo system so there was very little connected to the receiver:
Two brand new Klipsch PRO-6504-L-THX speakers.
One brand new SVS PB-2000 subwoofer.
HDMI 2.0 (ARC) cable running to brand new LG OLED65B7P
That was it. The audio was streaming to the receiver from Amazon streaming video from the television via the HDMI cable.
Any thoughts / suggestions? Of course I just threw out the box last week (though I have all the cables, manuals and bags). And of course it happened on a Friday night, so no one will be available in customer service (retailer or Yamaha) until Monday.
I have already tried unplugging all cables from the back of the receiver to see if I can get any response, but nothing changed. I have a feeling that now that the "self-protection" circuit is enabled, it is just a brick, regardless.
UPDATE: Reading another thread, it was suggested to hold the "info" and "tone control" buttons while powering up to override the circuit protection lockout. I unplugged everything from the back of the unit except the power cord, held the two buttons, and pressed the power button. The receiver powered up. I was able to adjust the volume, make some input selections, etc. However when I power the unit off and try to power it up again (with no cables connected, and NOT pressing the info and tone control buttons) the system powers up and then after about 5 seconds goes into circuit protection.
