On my SR6012 I never did find a way with TV or Receiver. If you download the remote app to your smart phone or tablet and press the ? it will popup the info. One screen will show audio input, another output, and off the top of my head a third I can't remember. If I was at home I would check it out for you.

Nope. The source video must pass through the AVR in order for that information to display.

I think I am having an issue with my Marantz SR7012. This receiver is connected to a 65" Samsung 4K TV as well as to a JVC RS640 projector using the two video outs on the Marantz set to Dual video outs. The AV equipment is in a family room and I had tested the JVC projector in this room to verify that everything was working as it should (no issues). The projector was set-up on a temporary stand in the back of the room firing to my drop down screen which comes down in front of the Samsung TV. I have 3 sources, a U-verse TV cable box, an Oppo 203 4K Blu-Ray player, and a Roku Ultra. Due to already having much to much equipment in the family room, I just completed moving the projector to the other side of the rear family room wall (Master Bedroom) using a shelf mount and projecting through a hole in the wall. I am using the same 35' high speed, 18gb certified HDMI cable that was used during the previous testing.

Issue: The Oppo 203 works great with 4K Blu-rays and HD and 4k streamed content via the Roku box. U-Verse TV does not work. TV image still goes to the Samsung TV on the wall, but not to the RS 640 projector. When I start everything up I just get a black image on the screen from the projector (glancing at the lens of the JVC I can see light emitting, but no picture on screen). Sound is as expected from the Marantz. If I turn the Marantz off, and wait several seconds (video pass through is set to cable box input) I get a great picture on the screen, but no sound of course as receiver is turned off. All equipment is powered via dual dedicated 20 Amp circuits on same phase in panel including the projector. I also have 2 APC power conditioners between dedicated outlets in family room and the equipment in the media cabinet.

System is a 7.2.4 configuration with 2 Sunfire amps( 1 5ch/200w and 1 2ch/600w powering the 7 channel 'bed' speakers. The four in ceiling speakers are powered by the SR 7012 and the 2 Velodyne subs are passive, powered by an external Velodyne sub amp.

I have shut everything down and then turned off power in the 2 APC power conditioners, then fired everything back up and still don't see a TV image to the projector. The picture on the Samsung TV is fine when projector is on and not working.

Anyone have any ideas? I am pretty baffled by this one. I have gone through all settings to see if something had changed, but they all match what I recorded during my initial set-up and testing. I am having trouble thinking it is the 7012 as the dual mode option works fine with the other two sources, but.......?

So then, without making any physical cable changes, rather simply moving the PJ back a few feet, the U-verse cable box no longer works as expected?

Have you tried setting <HDMI Video Out> to "Monitor 1" or "Monitor 2" whichever is assigned to the PJ? What about doing a "soft reset" by powering off the AVR, TV, and PJ and unplugging their respective power cables and HDMI cables for 10 minutes?

jd,

I have not tried either of those but will give them both a shot in the morning. Don't know why I did not try swapping or just using the other monitor out, Duh!

Fired up the system this morning, watched a bit of TV on the Samsung, then powered up the projector while leaving TV on (for this quick check I did not drop the screen down) and the TV picture was displayed by the projector with no issue! Oh well, thanks for the reply jd, I will monitor going forward and try the other recommended options you offered if it shows up again. I will be using the projector much more often now that I have completed the relocation its relocation.

Cheers!

Cool 7012 Connection to Panasonic Plasma TC-P55VT60 Question

...I also posted this question the Plasma Thread...Posting it here in case there's some setting on the Marantz I'm missing...

My TC-P55VT60 is connected to my Marantz SR7012 via HDMI cable. A TiVO is connected to the Marantz via Cable/SAT input on the Marantz. All works fine when The Monitor Out on the Marantz is connected to the TC-P55VT60's HDMI 3 input but when I connect it to HDMI 2 (ARC) to take advantage of ARC (the receiver is ARC capable), I get audio but no video.

Is it possible the HDMI 2 on the TC-P55VT60 has failed? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

Multi EQ app and AVR calibrations

Hello.

If I run the Multi EQ app on my Marantz SR5012 and choose not to transfer the new calibration to the AVR will it affect the original calibration that is on the AVR prior to running the Multi EQ app?

Thanks,
PG55

I ran Audyssey and sent the file to my computer. I would like to post it to get some feedback. It came over as a ".ady" file and I cannot figure out how to open it. Any suggestions on how to open it or to transfer the file in a useable format from my ipad to my computer?

Understanding Audyssey Charts

Hello,

I ran the Audyssey Multi eq editor and being a novice I could use some help in understanding what the app did to my calibration. Below are the center channel and sub woofer charts. Before I upload it to my AVR I would appreciate some feedback. Did it improve the room correction results from the previous AVR calibration?

Thanks,
PG55

It looks like a nice "projected improvement" (i.e. it doesn't take another set of measurements to verify that it's getting what it's aiming for (i.e. the right graph is what it's expecting to achieve). To get an actual measurement for the "after" you need something like a UMIK microphone and REW software. That will measure and show you what you actually are getting at any point in the room after the correction is applied. But it's like not terribly far off from the projected change at the listening area.

Was there any firmware updates in the last few weeks? I feel like I have turn the volume quite high to get decent audible levels. I usually watch at -25-30 and now finding I am going to -12. Watching TV and/or Netlfix via Panasonic EZ1000 app. It's definitely not the speakers as I am running Paradigm Studio speakers. IS there a way to run tests on the amp to see if there are any issues? Just find it odd.

A volume increase is required when Dynamic Volume was previously used and is then disabled.

Sorry JD, I'm not sure what you mean. I never use any of the artificial settings like Dynamic EQ or Volume. Should I be using those?

Although most owners likely do in fact use Dynamic EQ all of the time, no, I'm not saying you should use either. Rather simply that if one was using Dynamic Volume specifically and then disables it, a volume increase of about 20 is required to achieve the same volume level.

Note also that different sources can have different input levels which is why the SOURCE LEVEL setting is available for those owners that want to have the same volume level for all sources for a given master volume level.

Ok thanks. Just seemed odd that I've had to increase my volume higher than normal the past few weeks.

Sound Modes

I am sure this has been asked and answered somewhere in this forum however after an hour of scrolling I figured I would risk the potential eye rolls and ask the question.

When I play a Blu Ray disc my AVR shows the input sound mode as DTS-HD and the output as DTS-Neural X. Since I only have a 5.1 surround system what does the Neural X do? Should I switch the output to DTS-HD only if I want the non-up mixed sound mode from the disc?
I would like to use the sound mode that the disc is sending without any up mixing.

Thanks,
PG55

I would like to use the sound mode that the disc is sending without any up mixing.

Thanks,
PG55
If the source is only 5.1, then there is no up-mixing occurring regardless of the "DTS-Neural:X" being displayed; however, as suggested above, you can simply select the MOVIE button and select the DTS-HD surround mode specifically.

I don't think it shouldn't make any real difference one way or another with 5.1 signals, but it might do better with 2.0 signals playing in upmixed surround. Now if you had a 6.1 or 7.1 configuration, I'd say definitely leave it in Neural X for the reason that Neural X (and DSU) has active steering logic for the rear speakers instead of the passive/arrayed logic of the 'true' mode for Dolby/DTS non-discrete 6.1 and upmixed 5.1 to 7.1. This is apparent in Dolby and DTS demos where the sides and rears have hard images when it announces or plays the sound in the location (i.e. little to no leakage to the sides) whereas the true mode playback leaks like crazy so if you're sitting off center in the middle of the room towards the left, for instance, it will sound closer to your side instead of the back of the room where it's supposed to be. Neural X and DSU are superior in their handling of such signals, IMO (the equivalent difference of passive center decoding to Pro Logic center decoding). But this could possibly still have a real difference with 2.0 material having stronger surround handling with Neural X than with the older DTS decoding mode (I'd have to do some trailer/demo tests in 5.1 here to be certain).

What about it upmixing 2.0 to 4.0 signals to 5.1? Does Neural X or DSU use stronger algorithms than the older DTS surround modes converting 2.0 or 3.0 to 5.1? It certainly makes a huge difference with 5.1 signals being converted to 7.1 here. Straight DTS or Dolby Digital pulls to the nearest speaker (not discrete like an array) whereas Neural X and DSU clearly are using steering logic to keep the rear signals out of the side speakers.

Good article on the sound mode subject.

1608 occasionally stops outputting audio

Setup is in the bedroom, a TiVo Mini locked to 1080i output feeding the 1608. The Mini is a network wired remote for the main TiVo which gives me access to all the live cable channels and recordings from the main unit. I have four Minis scattered through the house connected to the main TiVo.

Occasionally, if I pause and then resume the Mini, or if I switch what the Mini is doing from live cable feeds to playback of recorded material (and vice-versa) there will be no audio from the 1608.

The Info screen shows Dolby 5.1 coming in, and 5.1.2 (with the upmixer enabled) feeding the speakers, but there is no sound.

I have stored the "watch the TiVo" settings in the Smart Select 1 slot, and if I push that button while I have no sound, the sound returns, so I do have a workaround but it is cumbersome (and annoys my wife when she's watching alone). Also, switching to a different source on the 1608 and then switching back to the TiVo will restore sound most (but not all) of the time. The Smart Select 1 button works 100% of the time.

I moved the TiVo HDMI cable to the input closest to the output, changed the HDMI cable, unplugged the 1608 overnight as a soft reset, and even swapped in a Mini from another room, but the problem persists. I have had the 1608 for about a year, and it replaced a 1604 that I had for years and never had this problem. I seem to remember that maybe it started after some update or another, but I could be mistaken since the problem is intermittent.

Any ideas what else I could try?

I am trying to do an 11.1 setup, but I am using an old Denon 5.1 receiver to power the surround back speakers. Does anyone have an idea if I should run the rca’s to a normal input(cd) or into the ext-in plugs? I’ve tried both but no luck. What am I missing? Thanks

Make sure your volume is turned up to 0dB on the Denon 5.1 receiver and it's set to stereo if you use something like the CD input. Then set your rear speaker volume level from the Marantz. Pre-amp connection from Marantz surround back to the CD input and speaker connections from the front mains on the Denon. That should do it.

I'm using a Yamaha 7.1 receiver and its 7-channel input mode here to power six channels (front and rear heights that are ultimately from the Marantz plus a set of matrixed front wides from an active mixer connected to the Marantz front/side pre-outs and have an extra channel left (center) if I ever want to add the VOG channel. I then use an extra external amp for a matrixed surround #2 from an active mixer using side + rear pre-amp outputs (and yet another connection before the front/rear heights to extract top middle channels using two Pro Logic processors and amps), creating 17.1 channels total. Everything works here and it's more complex so if you're not getting sound you must be missing a step on something.

When available, using the EXT IN jacks on the external AVR is generally best as it ensures there is no DSP, otherwise, when using the CD inputs, also select the DIRECT surround mode. In either case, raise the external AVR's volume to 80/0dB. Also, on the Marantz, ensure that AMP ASSIGN = 11.1 and the correct Pre-Out setting is selected.

Cool Zone 2 Stuff

I am using Zone 2 audio from an SR7012 to two outdoor speakers. When I start Zone 2, the audio from main speakers changes (less sub activity). Does anyone know a reference in the SR7012 manual which defines which audio processing is used when Zone 2 is activated? I cant seem to find that out in any of the tables.

Thanks,
Scott
