This would be a frustration to me if I had to rely on the AVR to play files and didn't want to, or could not, convert my 2tb hard drives from NTFS to FAT32 without first purchasing replacement drives to convert existing drives.

JD? Without looking through a bunch of manuals, are all the Marantz and Denon models set up this way? I'd use flash drives if they were bigger and cheaper.

Are there any hands on reviews of the 1608 yet? I know it claims to support all the latest HDCP and HDMI standards and Atmos, Dolby Vision, etc, but I'd really like to read about at least one example of someone actually using one of these successfully without all the incessant problems with handshaking, passthrough, and wot-not that I seem to read about everywhere cropping up with random different pieces of equipment not interoperating correctly. I've got an Oppo UDP-203 player and an LG OLED55B6P TV, and if I get a new receiver, I would like to be able to run everything through the receiver (instead of the setup I have now with split video/audio from the Oppo). The 1608 certainly looks good to me. The form factor would be convenient, and I'm not a big fan of earth shattering, window rattling sound so 50 watts per channel is plenty for me. But I'd just like to read about some real use before buying one.

Here's some good info regarding the Test Tone volume levels used by AVR EQ programs (eg. Audyssey) with some of my own edits to clarify the scales used specifically on Denon/Marantz AVRs/AVPs:

Quote:

Not only is that crazy loud, it is perceived as being even louder in a home setting, so it would be quite unnecessary to run the system at 0db. I happen to use -10db to -15db and that's plenty loud for movies. I use -20db to -30db for music. That's just me. You can decide what's right for you.

Those SPL figures, 85db and 105 dB, are related. 85 dB is the SPL produced by a signal recorded -20 dBFS (20 dB below full scale) in one channel. Full scale is 0 dBFS, or 20 dB above that, so 85+20=105 dB SPL, which is the peak SPL from any one of the main channels. Subwoofers are calibrated 10 dB higher than that to 115db.

85 dB is the calibration level for the signals used in cinemas (-20 dBFS), and it is quite loud. Too loud and disturbing when used at home, so the level of the test signal was reduced 10 dB (-30 dBFS), thus it plays at 75 dB SPL to attain the same calibration. The noise level generated in AV receivers/processors is intended for 75 dB, and there are many test discs which do the same (e.g., Spears & Munsil Part II, or any disc with THX calibration signals), but beware, some discs do not adhere to that standard.

I see that Best Buy has the SR6011 on clearance (selling for $1119 - still not low enough for me). Hopefully this means the SR6012 will be announced soon (I want to pick up the SR6011 but hopefully for under 1K).

August. However, with the SR6012 MSRP increasing $100 over the SR6011 MSRP, I would be surprised to see the clearance price to go much lower.

I was at Best Buy today and saw the SR6011 priced at retail. I told the salesman I was hoping that since the 6012 was out that the 6011 would be on sale at a good price. He said that would happen in March. I assume he was just making that up.

The SR5012 is just now being released. The SR6012 won't be released until August.

Other than the new features I have listed in post 1 of the 2017 Denon AVR Owner's thread, the specs of the SR7012 should be released sometime next month.
Transfix likes this.

The SR6012 is also listed as being in stock on Amazon (but sold by a marketplace seller). This model is not supposed to be out until next month.

Edit: B&H also shows the SR6012 in stock now. Hope that is true because I have been waiting to grab the SR6011 on clearance ...

I don't think Marantz's Web Guru updates their site very often. They still list the SR7011 as New on the US Website.

Not uncommon for dealers to get the new models a week before the Denon/Marantz web pages get updated; however, if you drill down a little deeper you'll note that none of the dealers listed show it available until July 26 which is when we expect our first shipment as well.

Correct. The MSRP on the 2017 Marantz models are all at least $50 - $100 more than the 2016 models.

I found this pic of the Marantz SR8012 receiver, it also states having 192 kHz / 32-bit AK4458 DAC.

Considering the 6011 can be had for round $1K now is the 6012 worth the $500 premium?

So the SR-6011 is finally down to $999. I was hoping it would go lower (since the Denon X4300H with higher MSRP sold for $749/$799 at Frys. Either way is HEOS the only major difference in the SR-6012 (with MSRP of $1499) ? The specs for this new model don't seem to be out even with it showing up as being in stock at several online stores.

How big a deal is 32 bit DAC? Would a newbie like me hear a difference in sound compared to the sr6011? Seems like I read that it wouldn't. Maybe depends on source?

If your budget supports the SR6011 ... then get that.

Regarding the 6011 vs 6012 I'd the new 32 bit dac and new amp circuit worth the $500?

The 6012 apparently has some new amp circuit in play as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I've read since vTuner internet radio has been replaced by TuneIn you can no longer add favourite internet radio stations to the Marantz.

I read to add custom radio stations on the new Heos enabled Marantz and Denon receivers you need to create a TunIn account on there web site. From there you can organise and add favourite internet radio stations. Then use the Heos phone/tablet app to access the stations setup in your TunIn.com account on your receiver.

AFAIK, you as a user cannot add the radio station, rather the radio station itself must request to be added.

Don't forget HEOS. The external stand-alone HEOS box is about $400 on its own.
