Yamaha RX-V679 -thoughts?

This seems like a good deal to me. Thoughts? Any major negatives?

It will not be my primary AVR. I thought it would be good for a 2nd room setup.

Seems like a good price.

It does 4k pass through, but not HDR. Is that acceptable to you?

If you have a TV with HDR and plan to use the receiver as your pass through source I would hold out for a receiver with HDR.

I didn't think about HDR so I suppose it's not an issue but thanks for the note on it.

Meh. A 779 might be better for the Pre-outs that it adds.

"Exceedingly odd," said the butler.

is 679 really non-HDR? MY 779 does HDR fine into Sony 940C-

Wasn't there a firmware update that added HDR?

No ATMOS on 679 maybe only negative if u have height speakers- but price seems good-

Looking again, I see that Yamaha's page for the RX-V679 states that a firmware upgrade will give HDR support.

If it actually happened, I haven't spotted a firmware release that did it. The latest firmware update (2.05) makes no mention of any substantive changes.

I would be pleased to hear that my original statement about HDR was wrong. (Accessories4less still has it as an AVR that doesn't do HDR, though.)
