Wait for the Denon x4300 to go on sale when the x4400 hits stores.

The Dolby Atmos demos I played on my 5.1.2 system sound real good and works with Dolby enabled speakers but when watching a Dolby atmos or DTS X Hollywood mix its ok. Any thoughts?
I can only speak for Dolby Atmos, since I do have all the speakers. If the sound track is mixed well, you can definitely hear the height channel.

The new Blair Witch project, not the greatest movie...but there is a scene where there is someone walking across the room (left to right) on the 2nd floor, and Atmos can and will give you that height placement of sound.

To me 5.2.2 is good, but 5.2.4 or 7.2.4 is better. If you are in the middle row of a home theater you should here the sound in the DA speakers in X.X.4 system go over you like in the plane scene in Unforgiven. I have heard both in a system and if I am going from 5.x/7.x to Dolby Atmos I am going 5.x.4 or 7.x.4. Now if the room is too small for the extra two height speakers and the backs would be too close to the rear surrounds then maybe 5.x.2 would be enough. Just my opinion though. If you have been to an AMC Dolby Cinema theater you will understand why people want to go to 5.x.6, 7.x.6 or even 9.x.6.

With the price drop of the 6011 I am going to try and press my wife to let me have it. That would let me upgrade to 7.2.4 and be set for a long time. The only thing I would have is 4K in any way for a while.

@Daniel Chaves , I see from your signature you don't have a 4K projector, but you do have a Oppo-203 and a Darby unit? Does the Darby upscale your BenQ 1500 to look close to 4K? If so that sounds like a cheaper way to get better resolution at a lower cost till 4K projectors come down more.

Yes and no, ultimately my projector is 1080p no matter what you try to do to the signal that wont change. But I can certainly say visually with the said hardware and calibrating to the best of my ability the image quality and clarity looks amazing.

I have had several situations where people even said so this is what 4k looks like and I had to tell them that this was still 1080p so yes I am very happy with the route I am taking. 4k projectors are pricey (starting to come down) but in my case I have such a short throw distance, Im a little over 10ft away projecting on a 135inch screen that currently no 4k in my price point can even do that so Im stuck with what I have for now.

The Darbee 5000s however for $200 is a no brainer addition to anyone running a 1080p setup, I cant recommend it enough.

Thank you for the response. I was hoping you would say the Darbee 5000s would help and the price isn't bad either. I just upgraded from 720p to 1080p in my theater with an Epson 2040. I was impressed with the picture right out of the box and have not had time to play with the settings yet. I hope to finally watch a full movie on it this weekend in my uncompleted theater. I think I may have a design I like and can live with, I just have to see what the boss says. She wanted more of a media room that open up to a gathering area to enter the room, but I said that is not what I am going for and seem ok with that. The only thing is I have to move three framed walls I have built.

Must have missed it but does this come with HDMI 2.1? If not, its already outdated on HDR front as it can't display HDR10+ (suppose to launch within the next 8-10 months with non-streaming content). That's a pretty small age for a Receiver to be outdated.

/There are no HDMI 2.1 receivers available yet so every 2017 and earlier AVR is outdated.

You won't find any 2017 major brand models being released with HDMI 2.1 as it's only just being released to AVR mfr's later this fall.

2018 will be the first year that some brands start introducing HDMI 2.1.

I went from 5.1.2 with an Onkyo 838 to 5.1.4 with a SR6011. Outside of the demo clips I didn't notice much difference in real world content.

So my Pioneer Elite did 4k but not HDR and only at 30p. I was having HDMI handshake issues with it and both my 4k BDP and projector so I picked up the 5012 today on a whim and after a day of seeing it up and dialing in settings I must say I am impressed. It solved my handshake issues, sounds great and I really like the clean, minimal looks. I also like the ISF night/ day settings. The one thing I will miss is that the Elite had color profiles for, plasma, LCD, led, front projector, dlp etc. and a little more customization.

Marantz SR5012 and HTPC

I have an HTPC connected to my SR5012 which replaced my Pioneer VSX-52. The issue I am having is that my PC will not enable truehd or dtshd when connected to the SR5012, it worked fine with my Pioneer. Any ideas?

Please repost in the Owner's thread as this is simply the "announcement" thread.
