As far as I understand, a product can get the HDMI 2.1 certification only if the certification testing is successful. When the product makers certify their products, they only test the feature(s) they support.

Universal audio/video receiver (Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, etc.) is achieved.
Universal HDR TV (HDR10, Dolby Vision, HEVC HLG HDR, VP9-HLG / VP9-PQ YouTube HDR, Dynamic HDR) is required.

Push for universal HDR TV!

Unlike what Rob has literally said, let's say that at least one option has to be implemented. It seems HDMI 2.1 will be a tremendous source of confusion as vendors claim in big letters, say as is done above, that their product supports HDMI 2.1. The vendors then say in a font such as this post, or smaller, which features they support.

A key question: A quick look at the HDMI Forum website indicates that the HDMI 2.1 standard hasn't been published. Release was planned for early Q2, 2017. Is this true? It also seems that the Compliance Test Specification hasn't been published. It can't be published until the HDMI 2.1 standard is published. Does anyone know the actual status of the HDMI 2.1 standard and the associated test specification? Please share the information.

I was interested in the 8012, then I found out it doesn't have the dialog enhancer that is available on the Denon X7200, 6400, and the Marantz 8805 and almost certainly on some of the lesser pre/pros from Marantz.

Yeh ... strange call on that one in that the Denon sister model, X6400H has it but the SR8012 doesn't.

However, there are numerous other ways to improve dialog on any Audyssey model to include:

(1) Ensuring the center speaker is angled up towards your head before running Audyssey
(2) Setting Dynamic EQ Reference Level Offset to 10dB
(3) Setting Dynamic Volume = Medium
(4) Raising the Center speaker volume a few dB
(5) Ensuring the Center speaker is of equal or better quality than the Front L/R speakers
