Sorry, I must have sounded so selfish. I was driving and couldn't write much.

Congrats on getting the first known unit! What's your serial number?

Let us know what you think!

No worries.
I will be wiring 5.2 to start.
I have 4 KEF Q50a’s for Atmos but with my
vaulted ceilings I am going to have to do
some serious experimenting.

Good luck with the install!

I still have a bunch of fabric panels to build before my theater is ready but I might sneak in some watching before it's done anyway

Let us know what you think!

Am I missing something here regarding watts per channel, on the first page you provided the Marantz US website so I go there and it says "11.2 channel AV Receiver with 205W per channel – Enough power to fill big rooms with renowned Marantz sound" but @jdsmoothie say it only provides 140wpc, can someone please explain

The power output will depend on the impedance of your speakers. The lower the impedance (ohms), the higher the power (watts).

I understand that but where does it say something about 8ohms for 140 or 4ohms 205 and so on on that site that’s why I’m asking.

Only the UK site has detailed specifications so far. Try navigating to that one.

Does anyone know what this beast is going to weigh?

I have a rack with shelves that support up to 50 lbs. Need to order a special shelf if it goes over that.

Thanks!

I recall reading that it would weigh in at a little over 38 pounds. Best to double-check, though.

I can't believe that my first post on this site is going to make me appear impatient...... but hey.......do we have any initial impressions to share about the 8012 yet? Mine is going to reach me early next week, but my anticipation is starting to turn to angst. I've been lurking this site for a few months now......the wealth of information here is awesome with a great bunch of enthusiasts. Thanks !!

Sometimes my excitement gets the best of me. My unit shipped from California on Friday and is due to arrive to me tomorrow. I've never purchased a receiver without auditioning it first, but BB made me an offer that I couldn't refuse. I will certainly post up after I get mine installed.

I am active on other enthusiast forums for a variety of other hobbies....I stumbled into this one while looking into settings for my LG C7. I found it strange that Marantz announced and showed the receiver, but I've never heard mention of a working unit or how it sounded. I presently own a Marantz SR7011 and when BB made me an offer to return it towards the 8012....I jumped at it. The 7011 sounds great but lacks the punch I grew accustomed to with my Yamaha RXZ9 or my 5805. I'm hoping it has that large presence like the receivers of old.

This is EXACTLY why I'm interested in the SR8012. The classic Onkyo's and Denon's I've owned contained power supplies and amp sections that were far more robust/beefier than those from current AVR offerings. I'm hopeful that you'll be reporting that the 8012, with its new amps and toroidal transformer, will restore the punch that's been absent/missing in current AVRs.

That is a bummer for sure and it doesn't help my sickness. I am one of those guys that can hear and see differences on a scale that most cant. (At least thats what they tell me and it keeps me up at night)

I have never had equipment with these two DACs. Can anyone describe potential differences? I'm moving from the ARCAM AV8 (Wolfson DACs).

I do find it interesting though, that a unit like the AV8802A would cost a thousand more dollars than the SR8012 and it includes no high end applification section. I do understand that it has XLR outs but what else? Can the other components be that much better to justify the price?

I plan on powering LS50s (Passive) with the SR8012 OR using my Musical Fidelity M250 Monoblocks with a AV8802A. (Only if the AV8802A sounds significantly better with 2 channel music.)

My beloved Theil CS7's are getting pushed out due to flood damange and i'm going smaller with the LS50s.

Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

I have seen the 8012 in silver on YouTube. The website shows black only. How can I get silver?

I don’t have any experience doing so. At the very least, I would think you would encounter shipping costs and duty and/or import taxes. There’s also a possible issue with operating voltages (i.e. 120 vs 240) and wall outlet plug differences. Lastly, there may be warranty validation issues. Perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge and experience could chime in.
