Did you accidentally turn on "Reduce Loud Sounds" on the Apple TV?

I've been looking at this receiver for a while. Like many others I'm having a hard time deciding if I should buy now or wait for HDMI 2.1 implementation in a new model. I believe that Denon will make it possible to upgrade to HDMI 2.1 on the avr-x8500h. I can't find information about a similar option for the model we're discussing here.

(I apologize in advance if this has been discussed at length already but a search didn't really give me many relevant hits).

Only the Marantz AV8805 is hardware upgradeable to HDMI 2.1. Look for an HDMI 2.1 successor to the SR8012 later this fall.

Not anymore. The 7010 brought in Marantz with more emphasis on the highs.

Another dealer stated the SR8012 will be upgradeable who does have high end contacts. I will hit up my guy to put this to rest.

I just purchased an 8012. Still a few months away from using it. I'll be bummed if they don't make the 8012 upgradeable.

Be bummed now.

The SR8012 should be replaced with an HDMI 2.1 successor model (SR8014?) later this fall. The only Marantz model that is HDMI 2.1 hardware upgradeable is the AV8805.

I finally got a reply from Marantz regarding the option to upgrade to HDMI 2.1. As expected. So I will wait with my receiver purchase. Sigh!

Quote:
Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting us.

Further to your query, please be advised that the HDMI 2.1 upgrade is not possible on the SR8012. Please contact your local dealer for pre-sales queries. Currently, only the AV8805 can be upgraded.

Should you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

Sound United Support

JD, first of all, I'd like to thank you for all your help that you have given me and others in the past and the future here on the forums. In fact, I bought my Marantz SR7008 from you. My 7008 is still running great, but I have the itch to upgrade to Atmos. So, I'm looking to the SR8012 as an upgrade and thought I'd check out the forums for this model specifically.

You mentioned that the successor for the SR8012 should be replaced later this fall. Well, yesterday, March 10, 2020, I was on Amazon and they now say that the SR8012 has been discontinued by manufacturer. Now we know that Amazons inventory won't be depleted overnight as I'm sure Amazon has a nice inventory of the SR8012, and they are still selling it for $2999.00 as all other authorized
dealers are.

https://www.amazon.com/Marantz-SR801...ct_top?ie=UTF8

But I thought that this was interesting. Hopefully the price will drop fairly soon, and at a decent drop at that to make it more affordable to someone like me

Amazon does not necessarily reflect street (actual) pricing unless it’s a sale price authorized by Marantz. Authorized retailers can only advertise MSRP. Ever since it’s introduction, the 8012 has been available at substantial discounts by many “authorized” internet dealers. The key is calling the dealer (including JD) directly rather than just looking at the advertised price on their website...no need to wait. Think about car shopping...how many people actually pay the sticker price on the window?

HI Gene. Thanks for you're input. All the places I've checked so far online, (four different retailers so far) I've called and talked to someone, and they won't budge on the price. I'm calling authorized dealers only. Same results at Best Buy Magnolia in person as well. I will be contacting JD as he helped me out with my SR7008.

You’re probably calling the national big box retailers like Best Buy who are in the same category as Amazon who cannot quote below MSRP. It’s the “authorized internet” dealers who have far less overhead and far more flexibility that you should call. Look for a PM to get you started.

Hi again Gene. Thanks for your pm. A few of the places I've call are Crutchfield, OneCall. I've not called any of the big box retailers. And visited just one in person, Best Buy Magnolia.

I’m considering the SR8012 and I’m under the impression that it is Roon Ready. If so, does anyone have experience using it with Roon? Does Roon recognize it as an endpoint? Would I be able to stream 192/24 tracks? Thanks for any input!

How to troubleshoot no audio on subwoofer?

I have the Marantz SR8012 AVR and for some reason there is no audio coming out of the subwoofer jack to the subwoofer. I have tested the subwoofer separately and it seems to work fine. How do I troubleshoot this issue? Thanks!

1. How are you testing the output? With a test signal or music/movie?
2. How have you set up bass management?

I used a 3.5mm to 2-Male RCA cable. I connect the 3.5mm to an iPhone and the RCA to the subwoofer. I am able to hear the bass/music through the subwoofer when playing bassy music. I don't know what "bass management" I need to setup but it was working fine like a month ago.

Anyway, I just did another test tonight with a different cable. I am able to hear the bass from the subwoofer but it was VERY quiet. I have to put my ear right in front of the subwoofer to hear it. I'm not sure what changed or gone wrong. I did the Test Tone in the Marantz and able to hear the white noise coming out of the subwoofer but again, it was very quiet. This is the SVS P2000 subwoofer. I set the volume to half like it has been and I can barely hear anything. So, again, I'm not sure what happened. I'm not sure if it's the AVR or subwoofer.

Try connecting it to a main channel output and see if it still is weak.

Are all of your speakers set to small and with a crossover of 80hz or higher?

The SR8012 is not a Roon Ready device. You would need an external RR DAC or device. Marantz/Denon receivers have built in HEOS that streams most music services but Roon is not one of them.

Right now everything is set to crossover at 40hz. Side and rear surround speakers are set to small.

I connect it to the center speaker jack and the sound is stronger coming out of the subwoofer.

Try all speakers to 80hz or higher and see if that makes any difference....... Also, what level is your subwoofer set to in the speaker levels setting?

Okay, I set it to 80Hz for all the speakers except the rear is set to 90Hz and it's way better than before. The subwoofer is set to 120Hz. It certainly is not as before but I guess I can live with it if I can't make it better.

Many thanks for all the help!

That 120Hz subwoofer frequency value is only for filtering the Low Frequency Effects channel coming from whatever you're watching. The crossover frequencies associated with the other speaker channels are what determine the low frequencies redirected from those channels to the subwoofer. There's not a separate subwoofer high-frequency filter, unless, of course, there's one physically on your subwoofer. That one should be turned up to the highest frequency possible or (better) completely disabled or bypassed.

If the subwoofer output seems quieter than you'd like, you can manually adjust the subwoofer's volume trim level.

In addition, you can spend $20 on the Marantz Audyssey MultEQ App (available for smartphones and tablets). It'll let you specify the frequency response curve of your speakers in your room. See https://www.us.marantz.com/en-us/sho...ulteqeditorapp (The compatibility list on that page is misleading. It works with those models *and newer*, including the SR8812.)

The page you linked to lists those models that were available when the "Audyssey MultEQ Editor" app was released. It also indicates that it will work on selected future models as well which includes the SR8012.
