There may be less pollution caused by traffic, for example, but everyone is getting more and more items delivered, which creates a lot more packaging that has to go somewhere.

Can individual HDMI inputs fail?

I recently had the house circuit breaker box replaced (after a nasty short, when the 8805 was on the PHONO input), so the power was out most of the day. When everything came back up, I wasn't getting a signal from the cable box to the TV on the CBL/SAT HDMI input. Naturally, I thought something had been disturbed in the basement when the electrical work was done, but I couldn't find any disconnects in the cable runs. I then got into a long and frustrating online chat with xfinity to try to troubleshoot the cable box itself. During the course of that, I routed the HDMI cable directly to the TV from the cable box, and it worked just fine. I have now had to reassign the cable box from CBL/SAT to GAME, and that is working. But, really, can just one HDMI input fail? The other six are working fine.

Hi

I been looking trough the manual for the AV8805 but i cant find any relative info.

My speaker setup now is a 9.2.4
Center, front, front wide, surround and surround back on ground plane and front height and top middle in the upper plane.

As my setup is now with a AV8802 the front wide's are never used. Will upgrading to a AV8805 give me the ability to use the front wide's as the layout is now?

I know i can use Audyssey DSX to get sound from the wides but for some reason DSX sounds horrible on this receiver.

Balanced or unbalanced cables

Hi all, I am new to having a pre pro vs a receiver. I need to purchase cables to connect my 8805 to my halo amps. Going to go through Blue Jeans Cables. I have no idea which ones to purchase. Thanks !

Wides are a mixed bag, unfortunately.

Currently, with a 9.1.4 speaker layout, the wides will ONLY be active with native Atmos material. And not all native Atmos content effectively uses the wides (when it does, it can be very good).

Dolby Surround upmixer (DSU) does not use the wides, Audyssey DSX is gone, so no wides upmixing options there.

DTS:X and the Neural:X upmixer can use the wides, HOWEVER there is an 11 channel limit so with a 9.1.4 layout the wides are the odd man out since 7.1.4 takes priority.

At some point, eventually, DTS:X Pro will be available which will resolve this issue and let DTS:X/Neural:X work with higher speaker counts than 11.

But, right now, it's basically Atmos or nothing with the wides.

Considering the Jump!

Greetings,

So, I have been sitting atop the fence for quite some time and, am now leaning heavily toward getting the 8805. I would normally have moved to it by now but, the HDMI board upgrade kept me from opting in sooner.

I don't know, at this point, I am not certain that I would even do the upgrade since I have no displays that are capable of it. As for future use of HDMI 2.1, I couldn't say.

So, what say you all, move now, or wait it out...???

Hey Ralph,

Get off the porch buddy and place your order.

I have now had mine for sometime and it does everything nicely.

I'd buy/purchase the samething again if I had the decision to make right now knowing what I know.

Ralph - it looks like you currently own a Marantz AV7704. What are you hoping to achieve by upgrading? If you're happy with the capabilities of what you currently have, I would probably sit tight for a while. Any improvement in sound quality isn't going to be life changing and it doesn't sound like there would really be any other benefits that you need / care about.

I think it is possible. My impression there is one board for the hdmi. I had mine 8802 repaired at the Marantz service center. I had a lighting strike that came in through the Ethernet cable and took out that board if I remember correctly

Any will do as long as they are long enough and have the right connectors.

What do you think? Those are not my settings but you have a different room, different system and different preferences.

Regards,
Ralph I had an Anthem AVM 60 and I found a Marantz AV8805 very well priced here in Aus and Im glad I bought it. The new Audyssey app makes it worthwhile as well. You can now eq to your selected freq ( As ARC eq ) which is why I also moved to the Marantz again. Audyssey still eq's the sub better than Arc in my opinion. I actually was waiting out for the HDMI 2.1 upgrade to come out to be honest but I dont think we are going to see any upgrade this year. So yes take the plunge. You won't be disappointed.

A good way to test your Iris on your projector is on the Spears and Munsil disc. Go to Video processing then select Luminance Loading. Don't stare directly at the lens but on an angle and you can actually see the Iris at work.

I haven't seen this posted yet: but according to AudioHolics, Sound United is bringing Roon compatibility to certain Denon & Marantz products including the AV8805.

Get off the porch buddy and place your order.

I have now had mine for sometime and it does everything nicely.

I'd buy/purchase the samething again if I had the decision to make right now knowing what I know.

Perfect time for some quality HT quarantining with a new 8805. Just remember to stay 6' away from it.

I actually was waiting out for the HDMI 2.1 upgrade to come out to be honest but I dont think we are going to see any upgrade this year. So yes take the plunge. You won't be disappointed.

Greetings,

Thanks guys. Yes, the AV7704 has been serving me well and I am happy with it. There are small nuances that the 8805 brings to the table that interest me. All very good food for thought! Well, if I make the move you all in this thread will be the first to know!

It’s your turn next, Dave. Time to retire your Bose, er I mean AVM60 to the bathroom and jump in the 8805 Pool. We can all do a HT quarantined 8805 zoom movie night. Lol

I do have an 8805, but it would mean totally reprogramming my remote and installing it back in my rack, which is a full day project. I just haven't had any time to do that

Didn't you once own the same Bose unit?
