Apple didn't choose Dolby Atmos over DTS or Auro. The latter two weren't even available as options because Dolby has 100% dominance in the streaming market. All they chose was to upgrade the streaming audio offering from 5.1 Dolby to Dolby Atmos (where available).

Apple doesn't produce the soundtracks, they are just delivering what already exists. And DTS/Auro streaming audio doesn't exist.

Subwoofer adjustment using the Marantz app

I posted this before and never really got enough responses to understand if anyone else is having this issue:

Does anyone else notice that when you adjust subwoofer levels with the Marantz app it shows on screen that it adjusts but it actually does not adjust? The only way I can adjust subwoofer levels is by using the remote.

I'm mostly hoping to see more used 7703s show up and discounts on new / unopened 7703s.

Well, I've taken the plunge. The Emotiva RMC-1 is much more expensive and still mythical, so the 8805 is on the shelf sitting on my Equarack footers and the Denon AVP A1HD is languishing in the corner of the room. After a few hours of testing and setting up I'm very pleased with the results. The picture is unchanged, as good as before but not noticeably better, but the sound has definitely improved. Lots of tweeking over the next few days and weeks but first impressions are very positive. Is the Audyssey app worth the £20 it costs here in UK? Unlike anyone else on this thread, I started by feeding it the Glyndebourne Festival recording of Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen, possibly one of my favourite operas. The Oppo 205 - in surround mode of course - and the 8805 passed that test with flying colours. I guess Lord of the Rings will have to be tried out next!

Audyssey app is definitely worth the small amount they charge for it. Lots of benefits to using it.

Congrats and welcome to the lounge The app is indeed worth it and flexibility and ease of use is off the charts.

Yup! its a no brainier , I've tried a few different ranges and have largely settled on limiting 500hz on my mains all other speakers 5000hz midrange compensation off and man does it ever sound good! not in a million years did I think Audyssey could sound this good

Finally received word that my 8805 has shipped out and will arrive Monday! Looking forward to comparing it to the7703 that has served me well since day one. Thankfully I've had time to follow and read this thread in the meantime and have learned quite a bit. Thank you to all who have shared information!

While the 8805's are still extremely allocated, I recently got a a couple of pallet loads air freighted in from Japan. It's been a very long time coming. Customers came 1st and I am finally able to crack open one for myself. Heck, some people were waiting since late February as they were dripping in.

That means that we can finally do the side-by-side comparison between the 8802A and the 8805. I'd like to set-up a comparison early July in the Twin Cities. If any MN AVS members want to hear a comparison, drop me a PM. Seats are limited and are only for AVS members so that they can share what they learn with others on the forum. A day will be picked early July based off of peoples schedules. The only criteria is whatever you hear needs to be posted (good, bad, or indifferent).

My plan is to listen for any subjective differences at a few different homes and systems along the way. I'll also have a 7704 to compare as well. I'll supply the pizza and drinks. You supply your ears and opinion.

AV8805 day three: the Auro 3D firmware download is now available in UK. Since I am using only 5.2 sound, is there any point in downloading this firmware update?

Thoughts so far: this unit really does improve the sound. I've tried all my primary sources including my vinyl setup and everything sounds excellent. The Audyssey app is quite clever but I've not spent enough time with it to see just how it will improve things, except to remove the mid-range dip that disfigures the FR graph. I'll put it back if I hear evidence against this move. The treble begins to fall off smoothly north of about 9k but since I doubt my aged hearing goes that far it probably doesn't matter. The midrange sounds blessedly smooth.

Mine was out for delivery yesterday but never came. Pissed as I was ready to get things set up on Father’s Day. Oh well, just rearranged my amps in the rack to get ready. Should be here tomorrow.

My AV8805 is back in the corner, can anyone recommend an IR repeater so I don't have to point the remote over my shoulder? Also, I need more DC triggers. Any recommendations there? Thanks.

If you have WiFi and the 8805 is on your LAN, the WiFi remote app works fine.

The Emotiva ET-3 trigger expansion module is what I use to trigger my amps and subs. It works perfectly.

Same here as I needed one more trigger than the 8805 has. I've been very happy with the ET-3.

If you ever want to move to a control system, I use Control 4 and it has been bullet proof and controls my whole system, AC, lights and ceiling fan.

I cant wait to hear all of the opinions. I traded my 8802a for the 8805 and then added a 7704 to my upstairs system. They all sound great but I look forward to comparing my old ears and impressions to others.
