Can someone tell me how I can play a football game Video through this reciever and play music like google play music through it's chrome app instead of the game commentary?

Often, if there is a secondary game on we like to play pool with music but have the game on the TV. I would rather use my HT goodness for music and not use my tiny bluetooth speaker and turn down the volume on the TV.

I have not really experimented trying to do this yet, but I know it was pretty much impossible with my last reciever, Pioneer Elite. I believe I heard it is possible with the Onkyo TX-RZ920.

If possible, a quick step by step would be great.

Thanks.

I'm able to watch program when playing music from my iPhone or computer via bluetooth.

Yep that worked. Such a cool and simple option to have. Looking forward to my next football game party. Normally, we would watch the home team, then after the game, put on the next game, crank the music and play pool then if that second game starts to become a good game, switch off the music and listen to the game. s.

How do I know if a blu ray had ATMOS built into the soundtrack. ?

If it does have Dolby MA soundtrack what should I set the reciever at? Dolby Digital ?

DTS Neural:X sounds like it is to be used with Blu Rays that don't have ATMOS.

Also, I just realized that this reciever does not have SiriusXM built in. I just got a free year with car and internet and was going to set up the reciever and no SiriusXM setting. I suppose I can stream from my phone via Chromecast but would be nice to have it built into the reciever.

The back of the Blu Ray package will indicate the audio codec...i.e. Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, etc. or alternatively you can also hit the "info" button on the remote to display the codec on the AVR display and on screen.

Anyone know if there will be a software update for the RZ920 to update it's AccuEQ to the Advanced like what is included in the newer NR830's? As of right now it looks like that is one of the only options the RZ830 has over the slightly older RZ920.

AFAIK..there have been no notifications/announcements/press releases/rumors suggesting or indicating an AccuEQ upgrade/update for the RZ920 to "Advanced" AccuEQ.

Anyone having trouble getting the Onkyo to play through airplay from a Mac or iPhone? It used to work, but I don't know if an upgrade nuked it.

This seems to be a common occurrence with Airplay...other AVR brands appear to have the same issue with dropping or loosing Airplay from time to time. To my knowledge, the Denon threads appear to have a remedy that seems to work for their AVR's...a soft reset. Denon owners are instructed to unplug the receiver from A/C for about 10 minutes. The majority of folks were able to restore Airplay using this method...worth a try. If no one else provides further input here, it would be advisable to give Onkyo support a call.

Hoping to get some input here. I am looking at getting the RZ920 and am comparing it to the RZ830.

I am not an audiophile to the extent that most on this thread are, I am just upgrading from my old TX-NR3007 which I absolutely loved and am wanting something that can handle more connection options as well as all the HDR options too.

The biggest difference I see between these two units in the specs are:

For the RZ830:
Power Watts/Ch (8 Ohms 1kHz, 2 Channels Driven, FTC) 120, 0.08% THD
Power Watts/Ch (6 Ohms 1kHz, 1 Channel Driven, FTC) 250, 10% THD

vs, the RZ920
Power Watts/Ch (8 Ohms 1kHz, 2 Channels Driven, FTC) 135, 0.08% THD
Power Watts/Ch (6 Ohms 1kHz, 1 Channel Driven, FTC) 175, 0.9% THD

Can someone (in easy to understand terms please) explain to me the differences between the above? What do I need to know about these two in order to choose the best one for me?

Are there any other differences I need to know or be aware of?

It's prices is sitting just over $1K from what see (last week it was a little lower) but that feels like a good deal to me and I'd love to gift myself a present for Christmas :-)

Thanks for any and all input!! Newbie here, please go gentle, lol

I called Onkyo about this today and they said this will/can NOT be addressed through a firmware update in the future. The rep I spoke with said it's a hardware limitation, it's not about the software in the unit. Just FYI.

Both sage advice and conventional wisdom say determine the features that you need and/or want...then let your budget make the final decision. Beyond desirable features, most also look for features that provide the most "future proofing." In “easy to understand terms,” you will likely be unable to hear any difference in performance based on specs so close. And sound quality is primarily determined by a room's characteristics/acoustics and speakers.

Thanks so much for your input. Yes, I agree and that makes sense to me. I made my decision to go for the RZ920 mainly due the price dropping below $1K (couldn't justify the extra few hundred dollars for the RZ830 and the specs so close).

It shows up on Monday :-) Merry Christmas to me!

Congrats...a good decision! I've had several Onkyo's and continue to be more than satisfied with the 920...it has the capability of the 1100 and the 3100. I suspect that current discounting of the 920 means its replacement is probably around the corner...maybe a 930? In any case, the 920 is both a bargain and performance leader at under $1000!

Thanks!

The 1-3-2019 FW update is the most recent I’m aware of...appears generic and applicable across multiple models...does anyone know what it does?

https://www.onkyousa.com/Downloads/firmware.php

The change log for the 920 doesn’t have it listed yet.

I think they're calling this a 12-18-18 update but it didn't post until after the holidays. Here's what came in the documentation off the sight.

Updated firmware over the network last night. Went fine, resulting version is 1070-9010-3050-0010.

Thanks for the notice, my receiver did not indicate an update was available.
