2018 Yamaha RX-A Line

We are basically 90 days or so away from when the yearly Yamaha’s are released. Any word on what new features we can expect to see on the 80 series? Hopefully the 3080 is a counter to Denon’s new X8500H. So far it’s been crickets from Yamaha(not that I’ve done a lot of looking either). I’m hoping they have something really exciting up their sleeve.

Last year's announcement was released early May, so another month perhaps; however, as the A3070 is more in line with the X6400H (all be it 2 less amps), the A3080 should be more in line with the X6500H.

Maybe the question should be-Is there going to be an A4080?

Drop the RXA2080 from the range, integrate the RXA3080 somewhere close to the 2070/80's price... then introduce an RXA4080.
An interesting proposition...

The RX-A3080BL shows up in Magnolia system at Best Buy as 9.2 Channel for $1799

No other specs or info anywhere. I placed an order on it so let’s see.

I'm kind of looking for info on this too, since I'm finally in a situation where I can get a new receiver to replace my bricked A3000 (thanks Yamaha for not even offering discounts to owners of affected models with this manufacturing defect). Primarily the biggest thing I've been holding out for is HDMI 2.1. Getting tired of having to play the waiting game though on that front...

Other than eARC, true 8k/10k HDMI 2.1 capability won't likely show up until 2019/2020 models are released.

I don't care about 8k/10k, I want 4k120/144 capability for computer displays (or TVs with actual 120 Hz panels).

I tend to go by drops in prices. Seeing the xx70's dropping. Likely the xx80's just around the corner.

There wasn’t a lot of difference between the 60’s & 70’s so it’ll be interesting to see what’s new this year.

Sounds like they didn't make much of a change other than the price. I was sure hoping for more, or maybe a 4080. Do they show a new Pre-Pro by chance, or still the CX-A5100?

On the CX-A5100 owner's thread someone asked when the A5200 would be available. IIRC it was about this time last year. I think the general consensus was that no A5200 would be introduced in 2017 but to look for one in 2018.

Yamaha A-S1000 Int. Amp - Salk SongTowers - Oppo 103 - Marantz TT42 - Emo XDA-2 DAC
Multi-Channel: Yamaha RX-A2070 - Custom One-Off Selah Audio Center - Emo ERD-1 Surrounds

That was when we expected HDMI 2.1 to be released in 2018. As that's not likely going to happen now until 2019, look for the A5200 in 2019.

Swell. So I need a receiver...kinda now, but can't really go cheap on the Yamaha side because the TSR-7810's preouts clip like crazy on my Adcom GFA-555 MkIIs. Yamaha cheaped out and then some on the preamp voltages below the 1xx0 Aventage lineup, meaning I'd need at least a 1070 for halfway decent preouts. And getting even a "lowly" 1070 now means I wouldn't be able to get next year's model with HDMI 2.1.

What in the hell is the bloody holdup on HDMI 2.1 anyway? With some TVs actually getting true 120 Hz panels, it'd be nice to actually make use of them, especially when used as a PC display. Was really hoping for an A5200 this year as I could have just gotten one, lived with a 2.1 setup for now, and then gotten another pair of Adcoms for the rest of my speakers later. All this waiting is really starting to be some serious BS.

I wouldn't give up hope just yet on the A5200 (or at least not until this summer when the 2018 Aventage AVR line is released) ... but so far I'm not hearing anything affirmative from Yamaha regarding a 2018 release.

I haven't followed yamaha's announcement history. Any chance they would announce at CEDIA but not sell until spring 2019? Or do products announced at CEDIA always come out that same year?

Not really sure what the hold up is as it seems all brand mfr's are late this year in announcing their new 2018 models which is strange especially in that HDMI 2.1 won't happen until next year.

If it's all of them, then there is the very real possibility that they're taking notice that people are getting super pissed about the continual delays with HDMI 2.1, especially the gamer crowd that wants both high end movie and game experiences. I mean, HDMI 2.1 has been in the works for quite a while now, its initial iteration finalized in 2017, but no products until 2019? Yeah, people aren't exactly happy about that.

The HDMI 2.1 Test Specification is to be released to mfr's sometime this quarter so it won't be until 2019 when we see actual products released using it.

If we're for sure not getting HDMI 2.1 until 2019, then I'd at least like a prepro update, though that's unlikely if the very next year means a new version with HDMI 2.1. Makes getting a new AVR/prepro this year suck hardcore.

True that! And unless they drop the price on the A5100 a fair amount, I'm just not going to buy something that's 2-3+ years in the running.

If HDMI 2.1 is that important to you, then yes, you'll likely have to wait another year; however, most likely less than 1% of buyers are concerned about HDMI 2.1 at this point especially with 4k still being relatively new and even more especially if they have just purchased a 4k TV with no plans for an 8k TV (or programming to be available) for at least another 4-5 years.

8K is probably at least 10 years away yet if not longer. I’ll probably go 8K when we have some actual 24/7 8K broadcast channels. Other than maybe eArc HDMI 2.1 doesn’t seem all that useful presently.

for the last 7 years or so, Yamaha has had 3 models in the RX-A line

10X0
20X0
30X0

what is spurring this talk of a 40X0 model?
