Just for your info: The Pioneer VSX-LX303 does not support auto play with Deezer and not with Tunein too.

Red face

I received the Pioneer VSX-933 on Monday. I ran it through a round of full auto MCACC and it definitely sounded a bit flat compared to my Pioneer VSX-1124 it replaced. MCACC did setup speaker distance and channel levels correctly though. I applied the manual EQ settings from the video below to all channels and the receiver came alive and sounds amazing. It is even a slight upgrade in sound quality from the VSX-1124 paired with my JBL Northridge bookshelf speakers in 5.1. It turns on quickly, switches inputs quickly, and the setup menu is very nice.It also has plenty of amp power for my setup with no distortion. Overall I am a happy camper for $260 and I hope I can get at least 5 years out of it.

The 1124 even had mcacc advanced right?

Keep us posted, I am looking at the lx103 once it comes back on sale at Frys and would love to hear more about your impressions once you spend more time with it.

Yes my 5 year old 1124 had mcacc advanced, but honestly I only used auto on it without manually changing EQ of channels. I would have got the lx103 for the 3 year warranty but of all things I can't stand the amber display. I am sure you would be happy with either one if you like Pioneer sound.

Yea I like the old Class D sound with mcacc pro. There is a wrench in my deal now...the Onkyo 686 is on sale at Newegg for less than the 933 and 103. Crap!

Pioneer VSX-933 echo problem

Hi!

I just bought a Pioneer VAX-933 and I have a strange issue.

On some sound settings (like Stereo EX, DTX etcetera) I get a very pronounced echo. It can be Heard clearly when I pause and I have a lingering echo ecffect for a few seconds, just like a real echo getting weaker for every "bounce". I have the receiver setup as an Atmos receiver and use two Onkyo front speakers reflecting into the ceiling (I think they call it dolby enabled). And when I listed to an Atmos track there is no echo at all.

I pinpointed to problem. Under the settings where you can find reflcion Optimizer there is also a setting for Dolby enabled Speakers. If I have that one On I get the echo. If I turn it Off the echo disappears.

But now the questions is, will I still get the Atmos effect with the reflectiong speakers to the ceiling if I have that setting Off. In the initial setup the sepakers are setup as 5.1.2 with dolby enabled front speakers.

If not I may have to go into the settings every time i have Amtos content and turn it off every time I do not.

And I just find it very strange that I get an echo with that setting on....

Change History: Version 1040-7000-1050-0010

Support AirPlay2.
Add setting to switch ''Standard'' and ''Enhanced'' according to HDMI 4K signal format.
Minor bug fixes and improvements stability!

Not sure why but mine suddenly I have to turn the volume up to near maximum when playing something with Atmos. Previously -30 was about normal.

@ yobbo if you find any problems you can report here https://www.pioneer-audiovisual.eu/e...r-support-form.
And i see some volume anomalies when i use the sound on my pc, the sound on the TV is stronger and that when using the same volume level!
Recently i switched to the latest version software 1040-7000-1050-0010 of VSX-933, what i see the problem persists on this latest version, the issue is on the ARC side !
TV 49SJ810V connected to on port ARC on VSX-93, via a hdmi cable.
Pc motherboard AsusROG Maximus X, soundboard Realtek ALC 1220, HD Audio Drivers UAD latest version drivers: 6.0.1.8668, OS Microsoft Windows 10 Pro,Version 10.0.17763 Build 17763 connected by optical cable.
The problem i encounter is when i open the TV, the sound is changes off the PC on the TV, and i want the sound to be all the time on the PC, but at the same time active and ARC settings on TV and reciver.
I want to choose from my remote when i want to get the sound of the TV.
Another time the receiver receives a signal from the TV remote control when i want to turn on the TV, then the reciver from the off position, it switches to the starting position
I want to say that after each firmware upgrade I made hardware reset to factory settings.

More info: The original 933 only supported the old style ARC. Curiously, the firmware change history list as of Version 1040-7000-1050-0010 (April 2019) makes no mention of eARC. However, the 933 supplement .pdf says eARC is now enabled. Here's what it says:

Code:
eARC is new functionality that has been added to HDMI 2.1. It makes possible
the transfer of audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio
from a TV that supports eARC to this unit, which was unavailable with ARC
(Audio Return Channel). Use an HDMI cable with Ethernet support to connect.
Audio formats available for transfer are as follows.

• If the TV does not support eARC, functionality is the same as ARC.

eARC
PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS (DTS 96/24, DTS-ES, etc.), Dolby
TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS:X, Multichannel PCM

ARC
PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS (DTS 96/24, DTS-ES, etc.)
I'm now getting TrueHD but did not before. If you need this make darn certain your HDMI cables are modern enough to support all pins. (Don't ask me how I know)

Also, if you need enhanced 60Hz 4K support, make sure you read the descriptive text in the firmware supplement. You have to enable it at the front panel. It's not in the normal setup screens. Also, on my Win10 HTPC, I had to tell my Nvidia driver I wanted 60Hz. It seems to jump back and forth. Perhaps it gets confused when the VSX-933 is powered down and does not always go back to 60Hz later.

Hi KeeterJ, you have confirmed that TrueHD is passing through ARC now on Pioneer VSX-933 correct? This would be a HUGE deal that a $250 receiver on clearance has eARC support with the latest firmware. I don't have an eARC 4K TV to test with unfortunately. This receiver is an amazing bang for the buck with excellent sound quality and speed. Best money I have spent in long time.

Unhappy VSX-933 picture issue

Hi All!
I'm new on this forum, but no rookie in pioneer av receivers. I replaced my old 7yrs Pioneer VSX-520K few days ago, i bought a new VSX-933, the receiver functionality, and sound amazing, picture brilliant, it's a big step forward.

But i have a picture issue that never seen before with old receiver. I use a Vu+Uno 4K sat receiver, and a Benq W1070 projector also, and i can see picture issue with new receiver. All video settings looks like good, i check hdmi cables with tester, all OK. I made a small video clip about it, i haven't more idea what i must change, or set, finally may request replace my new receiver?

Yesterday i changed BD- SAT inputs and cables, so i watch TV on BD input, the problem persist only with Vu+UNO 4K (i see mainly 1080 channels)

I have a 2nd smaller problem, if i switch on new receiver without any working input source, it can hear a small static noise, maybe it will be the new thin power cord with 2 wire plug (without ground), old VSX 520K had thicker removable main power cord with 3rd connector to ground.

I use a big UPS to brigde 1.2 sec main power interuption, but all ok with Pioneer VSX 520K, never has any issue before new receiver switched on.

This is my 1st post, i can't attach links...

Can anyone confirm that this receiver works with Google Home Groups? That is, I want it to be part of a group with other Google chromecast speakers?

Is anyone using "Works with SONOS" and a Sonos Connect? I have the feature working in general except for volume behavior. When the receiver Sonos setup is set to "Last" for volume, it uses the last volume setting that the receiver was on from prior input use, but you cannot change the volume on the receiver whatsoever. What is interesting is that I could do this on initial testing with the older firmware the receiver shipped with. I then upgraded to newest 1040-8000-1050-0010 and it didn't work.

Also when the Connect is set to "pass-through" you can't control the receiver volume in the Sonos app, which is supposed to be what this does, as a feature of "Works with Sonos". There isn't anything that is 100% conclusive on if this should work with the VSX-933, but it seems like it should.

Anyone using this Amp with Tunein?
I would like to be able to add custom streams, but with all the playing I have done, it appears that it is not possible...?
You can add custome streams to tunein through their smartphone apps, and they work there, but it appears that they cannot be played elsewhere (web and/or hardware).
Would also like to be able to play FLAC custom URLs, but think this is "more impossible"?!
Any thoughts/clues?
Thanks.

Pioneer vsx-933 picture flickering

I recently purchased a pioneer vsx-933 av receiver I have connected it to a Panasonic dp-ub320ebk 4k player and Philips 55pus6401 TV and I get the picture flickering and also the picture goes blank for around a second before returning. Is it a problem with the arc or is it to do with the hdmi cables.

ARC has nothing to do with video, it is an Audio Return Channel.

Since you're using a 4K player do you have certified premium HDMI cables capable of 18Gbps bandwidth?

I have a 18gps cable going from the tv to the arc connection and 10gps cable from the 4k as the 18gps cable was playing up and kept losing hdr signal and the 10gps was working fine.

You should have 18gbps going from 4K player to AVR and another 18Gbps cable going from AVR to TV.

If your 18Gbps cable was acting up maybe you have a bad cable?

I did a Factory reset without success...

I don't know If I miss something somewhere. I can remember if in the first day I plug everything the sound work but the ARC from my TV (launching Netflix on the TV) have like over pass the sound of the CBL Box and now don't work anymore.

On my Cable box I don't have many choice. Dolby, PCM or HDMI Autoselect. And like I said if my cable box is plugged directly in my TV I have the sound via HDMI and return it back to the Receiver with the TV input(output) with an optical cable for the sound... On the TV the sound is set at Bitstream / Dolby and it is recognized by the amp.
Hello. How did you do a factory reset?
