I was able to do some additional persuasion to my wife and she is becoming more acceptable in having the AV receiver on top of the TV stand. Although she still prefers for the AV receiver to be on the shelve.

For my final planned setup 5.1.2, will I notice the difference between having the SR6013 vs the NR1609?
I know the SR6013 has better Audyssey version and a few other features that NR1609 doesn't have. The only features that I think would be beneficial for me is the Audyssey MultEQ XT32, 4k60 upscaling, eARC (for future) and possibly HDAM. So is it worth it? or am I missing something all together in my scenario?

Thanks
If it's in your budget the SR6013 would be well worth it. Note however, the TV will likely be better at doing the upscaling, not the AVR.

Just bit the bullet. Found a good deal on a SR6013 (999€)

I guess the wife had enough of the discussion on where to put the AVR, so now it'll be on the top of the TV stand.

Cheers and thanks for the help! Now onto the new surround/atmos speakers.

Some nice updates on the Marantz NR1609 Marantz NR1509 but is there any big change in the amp, DAC, or other hardware from the Marantz NR1608? The NR1608 is on sale for $500. My main question is how good these are at downmixing 5.x, 7.x, etc to 2 channel stereo for a 2.1 set up and how they'd do with a 3.1 set up. Have pair Kef Q150 on stands and RSL Speedwoofer 10S 2.1 set up for music but want to replace the 2 channel receiver with an AVR that will handle 4k HDMI pass through and sound great with music. Also open to other suggestions and interested in how the Marantz NR does vs a Yamaha RX-A780 or Denon AVR 3400 or AVR 3500 know the Denons are related to the Marantz but Marantz has a few extra features.

The Marantz "NR" series are comparable to the Denon lower level "S" series. The Denon X3400H/X3500H are comparable to the Marantz SR6012/SR6013.

Have a few questions on Marantz SR 6013 zone 2:

Can I use back surrounds speaker terminal and assign it as Zone 2 for audio if im just using 5.1 for home theater?

What sources will be available in Zone 2?

Can zone 2 be controlled with Heos app and have spotify, etc or Marantz app?

If i have several Marantz SR 6013, can i group the zone 2s with Heos app?

1. Nope. The only current AVR that can do this is the "flagship" Denon/Marantz AVR (ie. X8500H).
2. Stereo 2.0 from HDMI/digital/analog/networking/USB/PHONO.
3. Yes, but the HEOS app considers the AVR (all zones) as one speaker so the HEOS source plays to all zones which you can turn ON/OFF. Better to use the Marantz app instead which can then call HEOS to play in Zone 2 and something else can play to the main zone.
4. You can group the AVRs. See 3 above.

For SR 6013 to have zone 2 stereo audio i would still need a separate 2 channel external amp and connect it to the zone 2 out?

Sorry, forgot you only have a 5.1 setup. I should have said, although you cannot assign the Rear Surround speaker posts you can use the Height 2 speaker posts.

Using an external amp is one way to do it, but as you only have a 5.1 setup, you could also just use the factory default AMP ASSIGN setting of "7.1 + Zone 2" which then has you connect the Zone 2 speakers to the Height 2 speaker posts to let the AVR power the speakers. Same source limitation mentioned previously applies. Although you can also use ALL ZONE STEREO to pass and a source to both the main zone and Zone 2 at the same time, but of course the main zone would be down mixed to stereo in the process.

NR6013 - Heos Pandora Thumbs Down results in Thumbs Up?

I have a 6013, and we play Pandora via Heos on pretty much all day...

We discovered a peculiar behavior on the Heos app on Android. When playing Pandora, "thumbing down" a song will skip the song, making it appear that the song was thumbed down. However, going into our "thumbs up" history on the Pandora web site, we see that the song was thumbed up. Really strange.

We discovered this because our stations were playing more and more garbage that we swore we thumbed down...and voila, the thumb up history was a mess of crappy songs, lol.

The question is....What is causing the issue? Is it the Heos App's interface with the API? Does the receiver even have anything to do with it? Or is Pandora's API broken?

Any of you on this forum use Pandora with your 6013 receiver? Could you try thumbing down a song on Heos when playing Pandora over the receiver, then navigating to your thumbs-up history on their website to see if the thumbed-down song pops up on their thumbs up list?

(I currently have a ticket open with Heos support, but I'm having a hell of a time getting past their Tier 1 support. I haven't given up though, lol)

I recently noticed this as well using the HEOS app to stream to HEOS stereo speakers in my office.

Please open up a ticket with support, either via the app (didn't work for me), or by emailing them: [email protected]

Hopefully they will catch on that this is an issue on their end

EDIT: Adding instructions for reporting issue via app (didn't work for me, maybe you'll have better luck):
In the HEOS app, tap on the Music tab at the bottom. Tap on the gear (settings), Then Navigate to HELP >> REPORT AN ISSUE.

Hey folks, I'm looking to add a new receiver to my TV room to power a pair of new Focal 906 bookshelf speakers.
I may add a centre and surrounds but will most likely stay with a 2.1 system using an HD cable box, a Roku and a BluRay player, nothing too fancy, to a 2009 Panasonic plasma.

We've got the full-blown 7.2 home theatre with a JVC projector, so this is just a space for me to watch sports and hopefully, listen to good quality music.

I was wondering about the new Marantz NR1509 and whether it will give me the resources I require for both music and video.
Space is not an issue but price point definitely is...
Would a 1609 make more sense even though the power rating looks identical?

The other option I was considering was an entry level Yamaha RX-V685.

Thanks for your assistance...

No real difference in quality between NR1509/NR1609, rather better to go with the SR5013 for better HDAM pre-amps for 2CH music listening. Or for cost savings, go with last year's SR5012 on clearance.

When does Marantz usually release the new models? Looking at the NR 5009 and NR 6009 wondering if they'll be going on sale soon. Also were there any updates to the DAC or amp from the NR 6008 to NR 6009? Crutchfield has the NR 6008 for less then the NR 5009 and the NR 6009 is a little more.

All I want is the best DAC, amp, and ability to set a crossover for my 2.1 set up of Q150's and RSL Speedwoofer for home theatre and music.

1. The 2019 NR1510/NR1610 should be released May/June 2019.
2. No DAC updates AFAIK.
3. No price discussion.

Same thing happened to me on the 6013. I unplugged the power cable, let it sit for a minute, plugged it back in, and the update ran fine. Seems a few others on here had the same issue.

that worked, tried to update several times after : same issue every time so i gave up

i figured that it was time to test the heos app, the app stated that there was a heos update and i clicked update on the app, beyond my expectation the receiver started updating too ( status viewable in the porthole), the update ran perfectly.

Alright, after 3.5 weeks of going back and forth with support, they finally got this escalated and replicated the issue on their end.

Thank you for contacting Sound United, we value you as a Sound United customer and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance!
It appears to be a bug on the HEOS App for android only . Our engineering team was able to reproduce this and are working on a fix

Settings per input

For the sr7013: how can you know which settings only affect the selected input?

Hey gang. I’m trying to figure out how to connect a pair of Astro A50 wireless headphones to my SR6013 so that I can use them with any source connected to the AVR. It has a small transmitter (which I normally connect to my Xbox 1) that has optical in and out. If the 6013’s optical port could be assigned as an output, problem solved (unless I missed it, I didn’t see this as option in the manual). My tv (LG C8), however, has an optical out. I run all sources into the 6013 and use Monitor 1 HDMI output to the tv. So what I’m thinking is that I could use the Zone 2 output to a different input on the tv, connect the TV’s optical out to the Astro transmitter’s optical in. Then, when I want to use the headphones instead of my speakers, I just switch the 6013 to Zone 2. Am I on the right track? I’ve never used a second zone in an AVR before, and digging through the manual and trying a few things, I couldn’t figure out how to do it. Any help would be appreciated!

1. Correct. Denon/Marantz models have not supported optical outputs for quite a few years.
2. Yes, this should work. Note however, if you also plan on using the main zone speakers as well (for others in the room), the main zone audio would most likely be downmixed to stereo if you have the same source selected.

Thanks! I kept poking around and did figure it out. I just have to change inputs on the tv, Switch it to optical out, use zone 2 on the AVR when I’m using headphones. Works likes a charm! Question: does zone 2 output surround? I’m thinking it does (the Astros are surround headphones), but I can’t be sure... not that it matters a big deal. I’m just glad to have them work.

The Zone 2 HDMI output will pass whatever signal the HDMI sink (ie. TV in this case) can accept (eg. if connected to another Atmos AVR, then it would pass an Atmos audio track).

Hi all. I purchased the Marantz SR7013 on Saturday (found a good sale) and set it up yesterday. So far, so good, with the exception of the following issue with my 4K apple tv. I used to have it going directly to my tv due to my previous receiver's inability to process 4K. Now I have it going to the Marantz first, and back out the HDMI output to my tv. All works well until I try to change the ATV to Dolby vision. The picture turns very green and terrible looking. I first though that perhaps the new AVR could not handle Dolby Vision, but then I read that it could. I then tried my Oppo 203 with a Dolby vision 4K disk, and all works fine, so I guess it processes it as it should. I then tried using the HDMI cable that my Oppo was connected with on the ATV, and using the same input the Oppo was on, but still had the same green, terrible picture.
Do any of you kind folks have any suggestions on this matter? I'm kind of stuck.
Thanks in advance,
Dale.

HEOS Surround + Headphones

I'm looking for a smaller AVR for my bedroom (unhappy with my soundbar, even though it is an upper level bar), and it seems the Marantz NR1609 is the best option (unless someone has some other good suggestion...). I would like to know if:

- the NR1609 supports HEOS Surround. I searched and looked into the manual, but I could not find anything on it (same for my SR8012), so I'm assuming it is NOT compatible, is that correct?

- Will it be updated to eArc?

- I'm also assuming Marantz still hasn't implemented wireless headphones for the 2018 models, right?

Thanks for any help.
