SR7011 or SR7012

I'm shopping for a 5.2.4 receiver for a small, dedicated home theater. Are there any significant features in the new SR7012 to warrant the added cost over the SR7011?

Oops! Wrong thread. This is for the 2018 models. Please repost in the 2017(SR7012) Owner's threads.

Differences between firmware upgraded SR6012 vs SR6013?

Hi there! I recently bought an SR6012. Working well. I was able to do both online firmware updates as well as USB-based firmware updates from the Marantz site, the May firmware, which I suspect (and hope) was an eARC update which I'm particularly interested in.

I'm still in my return window for the SR6012. My question is what, if any, are the final differences between a firmware upgraded SR6012 vs SR6013? And if I'm reading correctly, were additional firmware updates coming to SR6012 to further get up to parity?

Interesting games here... eARC is important to me, but I still haven't been able to really test it. Wonder if SR6013 gives one extra year of "Future proofing" in this regard till they get it right -- i.e. one more year of updates.

Thank you!

The newer the receiver, the more firmware updates you will get. That is a fact. I decided on the SR6013 instead of the SR6012 because the ability on the SR6013 to do OSD for volume bar and info when passing Dolby Vision content at 60Hz. Also the ability to Web Control the SR6013. Those two things won't be available on the SR6012 or any other 2017 Marantz model with firmware updates. Right now the SR6013 is available only from one Marantz Authorized dealer and with a $100 discount from MSRP. Mine should arrive by the end of the week.

The eARC update has yet to be released, more likely towards year's end at the earliest.

Firmware updates resolve "issues" with the SR6012 no longer being supported (unless a major issue) much beyond the release of the SR6013.

Question Sr5012 Versus 5013

Sorry if I sound like a noob... but been looking at 50XX line for a while and following this thread, but I am still confused as to what are the compelling reason to get the 5013 over the 5012. Any feedback in sincerely appreciated.

I know its on open ended question, but besides the 4k OSD (maybe) seems like most other features are comparable or will be after a firmware upgrade.

Thanks in advance!!!

@jdsmoothie ... Thank you!

I had read the first post and sorry for not being more clear in my question... I meant I have read (in a few other sites) that some of those features (specifically Airplay2) will be available to the sr5012 via firmware update. What else might will be added vi firmware... and what will never be? Hope I am making sense... I am merely trying to justify the additional cost versus features (as they apply to me).

Thanks again.

If you don't see any benefit to those new features listed in post 1, or for 1 year longer firmware support, then the outgoing SR5012 on clearance is the better choice.

I recently picked up the NR1609 for a 4K OLED display, which I plan to connect in the next couple weeks when I figure out what speakers to connect for front left and right channels (leaning Elac Debut B6.2 with added A4 Atmos modules). My input devices to the AVR would be a TiVo Bolt, Apple TV 4K, and Oppo 203. For the 4K signal format setting in the AVR, can I leave it as "enhanced" all the time, despite the Tivo being the 4k non-HDR device in the chain? I have a SR7012 in another room connected to a 1080p display, so I am familiar with the Marantz menus, but never hooked it up to a 4k display.

Thanks,
Ryan

Yes, "Enhanced" all the time no matter if the source is 4K or 2K.

Thanks Enrico. I am too looking forward to having full OSD for 4K content (HDR/Dolby Vision) on the 2018 Marantz's. That's pretty much the only knock for me on last year's models. With DV support out-of-the-box, you would think the OSD would have supported DV content as well.

Hi. Can anyone comment on the quality of the phono stage in the 1609? Was planning on a 1608 and hooking up my Emotiva phono preamp to that, but if the 1609 stage is any good, 1 package would be easier. Though, I'm guessing no MC options with the Marantz.

Not without adding a MC head amp or a step-up transformer.

Here some pictures of OSD volume bar and info with 4K/60Hz Dolby Vision and HDR10. I can also confirm that the pixel depth and color space are fixed and the receiver is reporting all the video info for HDMI inputs correctly.

My brand new SR6013 asked me to update so I did say "OK", turned off itself but there is no progress showing on the receiver screen. It has been that way for more than 20 mins. Should I wait more time or should I unplug power cord?

Unplugged power cord and did a full reset and it's back to normal. For some weird reason didn't do the firmware update. I'm going to wait until it is available via download.

BTW, Web Control is not fully working yet. Only Audio via Web Control works. Every thing else says "Available with future firmware update".

Greetings, question, did you have to dive through the menu to get to that information? I have a Marantz 7011 and the only way to get the information in the screen shots (thank you) is to go through the "setup" menu and step through the different selections. I do not use the 7011 remote, i use my Harmony 700. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Yes, you have to go through the menu to get that info. I do also use a Harmony Elite. The Marantz remote sucks big time. You have to be in front the receiver for it to work.

BTW, I did try the firmware update and it did work on the second attend. It took no more than 10 mins to complete the firmware update. After the update, Web Control now works for Audio and Video settings. Also, Web Control does not work with Safari. It does work with Firefox and Edge.
