Well, after some days, maybe my ears have got accustomed.. but now I prefer the sound with the PA. It has more body and more detail, and I can raise the volume much louder. Maybe the increased detail is what I perceive as harsh/brighter

I am using Amazon Basics interconnects (more than 1.000 positive reviews..) so maybe I should try QED profile cables or some other “not basic”

So I just hooked up my SR6008 on the ground next to the TV and pulled the HDMI that was in the ARC / eARC monitor out of the new receiver and plugged it into the ARC / monitor out of my old receiver. Instantly popped the Marantz menu on screen, and hitting SETUP on the Marantz remote took me right in. Something is whacky with this new receiver I think.

One more thing - going to Tuner produces no sound at all.

Well I have the opposite problem. I lost all the detail and the dynamics. It just sounds too dull. It is crazy because the only change that was done to it was, adding the amp and the two rear atmos. I would take JD's advice and run Audissey once again and hope for the best ...

Well, bad news... I received my replacement Marantz SR6013 today, and I hooked it up. Audyssey is STILL failing (hanging at 50%) when I have 5.1.4 speakers connected. 5.1 calibrates fine, but as soon as I enable the top heights, the calibration will fail at either 50% or 62% (depending on whether or not I have it try the rear heights). I am very frustrated.

I assume others on here have been able to successfully calibrate an Atmos 5.1.4 system on a SR6013?? Now that it's failed on 2 different receivers, i see 2 possible scenarios:

1) I'm doing something wrong (which is possible, but I'm following the manual, and it works for 5.1).
2) Firmware issue??? But I would think others would be having the same issue.

That's really strange that the same issue is occurring on 2 different units. Anyone else have this happen?

Are the Atmos speakers situated in the ceiling so as to point to the couch with the right side speaker tweeters aimed at the left side of the couch and the left side speakers aimed at the right side of the couch (as is recommended)? If you have them configured as Top Front + Top Rear, have you tried using Front Height + Rear Height?

Hi,

We are aware of the App issue when using iOS 13.2 or iOS 3.3.0. Our Engineering team is currently working on a fix and should have it released very soon. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have this corrected shortly.

In the meantime, the Apps are working with the Android platform or any iOS device not updated to 13.2 or 3.3.0.

Thanks,
Marantz NA

No, they aren't aimed that way, but towards MLP. I can certainly modify that. I haven't seen this recommendation before. May I ask where that's coming from, so I can be sure to follow any other recommendations? Like I said, user error is certainly possible. But if that's the case, the Audyssey fails in a very poor way (well, doesn't even fail technically, just doesn't finish.... no error messages, etc).

I have not tried configuring them as Front/Rear heights, but I'll also do that tonight. I did try disconnecting the Top Front's, and connecting the Top Rear's as Surround Backs, and it still hung (84%). There certainly is something about the RSL's or the way I have them positioned that it doesn't like.

I'm getting major run around with A4L customer service about exchanging mine. He says my brand new Monoprice Premium 18gbps certified cables are to blame or why it's not working. I tell him even with NO cables plugged in I can't access the setup screen - he says you have to hit MAIN then SETUP. No [email protected]$T Sherlock. I say tuner makes zero noise, static, nothing and I went from 40 volume and turned it up from there - he says 40 is barely on with this receiver. His suggestion is "All of your odd screen behavior is due to a bad HDMI cable. Just run to Walmart and buy 2 brand new BLACKWEB 18gbs CERTIFIED HDMI cables *(they are like $6 for a 6ft cable). I can tell you that with 99% certainty this will resolve your problem".

I'm about to drive to A4L and kick this condescending douche in the nuts.

I just ran the diagnostic for HDMI hardware and got back the error: H1-14, V1-01 and V2-06 - anyone have a list of error codes?

I have success! After re-running multiple times again, I finally a recipe that works. I had to raise the mic a little more (Even thought it's a bit higher than ear height), and move further away from the back of the chair, plus turned off everything in the room (including the lights). I don't know exactly what finally allowed it to work, but at least it worked, and it sounds great!

I guess Audyssey is just very finicky, and poorly coded in that it doesn't throw errors, just locks up. Oh well... now to remember to send back the other one, so that I don't end up getting billed for 2!

Just looked on the North American firmware page - SR6013 is last updated from May 2019.
This forum page mentions a few updates since then - is that Europe specific?

Nope. This is a USA/CA based forum and therefore the change log information in post 5 applies to the USA models.

Hi,

I recently picked up the 6013 to go with my 5.1.4 system. The issue I am having is the dolby atmos sound mode not being available. I am running everything through a 4k apple tv and atmos is showing enabled there. I've run the Audyssey and everything was recognized and set properly but when I play an atmos show or movie and hit the movie sound mode button all I can choose is Multi Chan Dolby Surround or multi channel dts. etc. etc. No dolby atmos option.

I've been fiddling and googling but can't find a solution. Any advice would be appreciated.

Nevermind, found the post somebody recommended running setup again and that seemed to work.

Hi folks, I recently upgraded from a Marantz SR6006 to an SR6013. The receiver is currently NOT sending a signal to my sub while listening to 2channel music (cd or airplay). It is sending a signal while playing multichannel ATMOS demos but it's so faint, I had to take the grill off to make sure. I'm assuming this is due to the receiver detecting my mains as "large" and the crossover being set to "full band". I believe changing the fronts to "small" and the crossover to somewhere around 80Hz would cause the sub to be active again. Is that correct?

SR6013 Upgrade Question

So, upgrading my Home Theatre from the Marant NR1607 (had for about 2 years now) and moving up to the SR6013 (coming this Friday). Current components:
  • Marantz 2-channel (2x100W) Power Amp
  • R/L Fluance XL7F Tower Speakers (Power Handling 80-200 Watts, 45Hz - 20khz)
  • Definitive Technology Center Speaker
  • Fluance Bi-Polar L/R surrounds
  • Pioneer Andrew Jones 4" Atmos Speakers - SP-T22A-LR (face ceiling on top of L/R Front Towers)
  • NHT Media Series 2-way Dolby Atmos Satellite Speakers (for back rear)

Currently, I have the 2 channel external Marantz Amp running my Front L/R speakers. With the new SR6013, I have heard folks say that I should use the 2 Channel External Amp to run the back pair of Dolby Atmos speakers, and let my new SR6013 run everything else, but that doesn't seem correct. I think the best bang for buck is to leave the 2 Channel amp running the Front L/R Fluance Towers, and have the new SR6013 run my Center, Surrounds, Rear Surrounds and the 4 Atmos Speakers. Any suggestions from the experts on this board?

I'm assuming, looking at the SR6013 User Manual, this is a 11.1 channel Amp Assign, using the Front L/R Pre-outs? What is the proper setting for the Dolby Atmos speakers for all 4, and ceiling facing?

Thanks.

I have the 6013, but only use for my 5.1right now, but when you do the setup you tell it how many speakers you have. You have many options for speaker setup. I believe the 6013 has 110 watts to the front left and right when at 2 channel not sure when set up for 7.x.4. I agree I would use your 2x100 Marantz amp to power your fronts and the use the receiver for all the other speakers. Yes it can process 11.1 channels. I have have 3 working 200 watt Marantz Mono Block amps I was going to use for my fronts and the receiver for everything else.

I also like using Marantz app on my phone to control my receiver as well.

Klipsch KPS-400’s FR/FL with built in 15” 300 watt side firing subs, RC-7 Center, RS-3 Surrounds.
Integra DHC-60.5, 5- Marantz MA700 Mono Blocks, Pioneer DV-F727 301 Disk DVD CD Changer, Pioneer DVL-909 Laserdisc/DVD/CD Player, Sony PS3.

Hey gang. Tonight, I turned on my SR6013, and after a few seconds of scrolling around on my Apple TV, I heard a pop from one of my speakers (not sure which), the unit turned off, and a rapidly blinking red light appeared. When I press the power button, the light turns amber. When I press it again, the unit turns on for about 4 seconds, then powers off again to the blinking red light. I did a soft reset (unplugged for 10 minutes), same thing. Did a factory reset, same thing.

The unit is fried, right? Next step is to contact Marantz?

A quick flashing red light most often means there is a wire from one speaker post touching another speaker post so visually check the wiring at each speaker post behind the AVR as well as at the speaker that popped. If no loose speaker wires noticed, then either there is AVR amp failure or perhaps there is a short in the speaker that popped. Disconnect that speaker from the AVR and try powering on the AVR again. If still no joy, then AVR amp failure requiring repair (3 year warranty if purchased new from an authorized dealer), otherwise if no power on issue with speaker disconnected, then replace the speaker.

Also, as noted on p. 17 of the SR6013 Owner's manual, an "orange" power light indicates:

Thanks.
The only reason to use a 2CH amp for the Height 2 speakers is if it is a much lower powered amp (eg. 50W). You should continue powering the Front L/R speakers with the external amp in your case.

Assign Mode: 11.1

:
- Dolby Sp: 4ch
- Layout: Front Dolby + Back Dolby
- Pre-out: Front

I'm about to drive to A4L and kick this condescending douche in the nuts.

I just ran the diagnostic for HDMI hardware and got back the error: H1-14, V1-01 and V2-06 - anyone have a list of error codes?
Sorry to hear you are getting this treatment from A4L. I bought my 6013 from them earlier this year but didn’t need to exchange it. I’d try the cable they are recommending. When the issue persists, they will have no further reasonable excuse and you can demand an exchange or return. If they continue to push back, get your credit card company involved.

Keep in mind that general “this new thing I bought doesn’t work” complaints are probably common, and it’s more likely for the cable to be an issue than the receiver. Your case could well be different but they don’t know that until they rule out the cable.

I personally have had weird issues with Monoprice and Amazon cables from time to time.

Thanks a ton, JD! No loose speaker wires by visual inspection. I’m in a hurry to leave for work and type this, so I just disconnected all the speakers from the back. Same cycle of lights, so based on your advice, it’s an amp failure. I’ll call marantz today. Thanks again!

I did just that. I said, "OK I'll get that cable, and if it still shows the errors then you'll exchange this correct?" - which he agreed to. So I went and bought the cable he recommended, took pictures showing it hooked up, showing the errors that persisted, and he finally sent out a different unit which I should receive tonight. We'll see how this new one behaves but I'm quite sure there was an issue with the other one. Couldn't get the SETUP screen to come up anywhere - TV or on the front panel with no cable connected. Had a weird video glitch when running Audyssey. Couldn't get any sound from the Tuner at one point. There was some type of output issue.

Next question: can anyone give me any opinions/wisdom on the Ipad app for my NR1609? I've read some of the Ipad reviews, which are fairly negative. BUT, I feel that opinions on this forum will give me a lot better feel on how to use the app.

Thanks for any help, and have a good one,
Mike

I joined the club this weekend and purchased a SR6013. I moved away from Pioneer because I don't like what Onkyo did with them recently. I also purchased the Multi EQ app. The only thing I'm struggling with is how slow the control app is and no settings for eARC?

I'm also looking for information on the latest firmware. The AVR shows it's updated (3600-9151-1202-0025) but the download had a May date.

Got my replacement 6013 from A4L today, hooked it up, ran through settings, Audyssey setup, etc. All seems to be working just fine so far. Only thing is when I run HDMI diagnostics (Turn unit on, hit SOUND MODE and DIMMER simultaneously on the front panel) I still get a Cable Test Fail and a video error. I'm using Monoprice Premium Certified 6 ft cable to the SONY TV and 3 footers to Roku and Xbox. The last unit gave the same error with BlackWeb cable from Walmart which I may try again. Do I just need to buy some more expensive cables, or keep buying these til I get one that doesn't fail? Or not worry about it. I'm just worried that 4k 60fps content will get downsampled or something and I won't know it.
